Your cables don’t have a service loop inside of the walls? If you find one then you can pull it and cable out directly into the server rack. Possibly mount your rack to the wall high up to the left of your wall cabling door.

Has this recently stopped working for anyone else? Playing videos on my Nvidia Shield no longer triggers the scene, but other features work (Pause & Stop). I'm totally at a lost as to why :-(

Can anyone here tell me how one would go about getting the something like the device case Reed referenced? I do not have a 3D printer and would hate to spend the hours needed to learn how to use one. For me the best option would be pay someone else to do it.

BIG QUESTION: How can I add a logic level shifter in order to run a long line from the node to the first led strip? I see so many examples for 5v but nothing regarding 24v. Any input on how to wire that up properly?

I think there is a miss leading information regarding the M3 Hub as ONLY! matter/thread devices will have the high availability feature. Zigbee devices will not be able to run locally as well.

Great video, would love to hear more. Ring just upped my price to $98 for my home builder installed system with a Doorbell Camera and Alarm system. $49 each service paid for year in advance = $100 Frustrating because we bought our home in 2023. Anyway, I am giving them the boot at any cost. Its principle. So I jsut bought and installed an AWESOME Lorex 2K doorbell camera (actually works better than Ring) I bought a "Level Connect" device to control my Level Bolt door lock further removing me from the Ring dynasty. I also replaced my Honeywell Wave thermostat that was controlled with the ring app for a Honeywell WiFI thermostat installed curiosity of my electric utility. So all that is left is the Ring Alarm system and I need to do something fast as it will renew in 2 more weeks at now $49 since I got rid of the Ring Doorbell Camera. Very frustrating and I will make Amazon pay the rest of my life and still buy from them but Walmart+ will be first choice for everything as a punishment to Amazon. Sadly I am sure no many people like me.

Thats how your home builder setup/wired the home with cable terminations in a plastic johnson box? Its 2024 damn builders should be wiring this house/rooms all with CAT6 and finishing it all in a air cooled/vented communications closet.

Yea, the Hilink 2410 mm wave presence and motion detectors are much faster to respond and much better for things like lights and fans. Nice thing too is, if you're not into soldering, you can just use a simple ESP32 as a bluetooth proxy via ESPHome, the dev board for the LD2410 and boom... Easy peasy! Freaking love the LD2410s. Got a couple of 2412s but, doesn't look like HA offically supports them yet. So...I also live in Metro Phoenix and have been testing the LD2410s in the garage for fans and lights. Its not uncommon for temps to crack 125° F in there. So far ..the ESP32 BT proxy and LD2410 have been holding up. High temp of 118° F so far. Now... Longevity is the next test. Heet kills in electronic components so....well see. I've had a D1 Mini 8266, AHT10 teml sensor and SSD1306 OLED display running and going on its 3rd summer....and winter lol. Still going strong. The ESP products are just so smazing. $3 and there is so much you can do with them. Love WLED for LED Controller and ESPs. Cheap, versatile and rugged. Espressif makes a hell of s product!

Reed, I don’t know how you sleep at night trying to figure out how to get home assistant to open and close that troublesome garage door. I myself feel like Paul, yes Reed I said his name, just so proud of myself to get half of my things working. Fun fact Reed, I told Paul I thought he was going to name his baby Reed, that didn’t go over so good, I mean what did you do to him to make him get so upset like that. Anyway REED, I’m hoping you loose sleep tonight that the Tesla automation didn’t trigger and charge the Tesla. Gotta go, Paul is holding on the other line.😊

You can use the govee API to get it into home assistant and automate, this allowed me to use an aqara temperature sensor attached to my sons crib (the built in one is junk) and turned it on and off if it was above 73 or below 68. Works great, a bit of a pain to get the api setup, but there is some really good documentation for getting it into home assistant.

I wouldn't say SFP makes everything "so much faster". I think it has a little less overhead than Ethernet, which can speed things up marginally (it's common for ethernet to drop speeds by about 5%), but the big reason I like to use the SFP is that is frees up ethernet ports and it makes the uplink obvious.

I'll be a dissenting voice - This is a cloud service. Ring gave it away to build fast market share - it has likely always been their plan to switch to a paid model. And well - cloud infrastructure isn't free for them, why should it be free for their users? Sure they could quad the initial price, and 'include' cloud services for a few years, but that model seems to be mostly dead (think Windows updates). I challenge anyone to setup a centralized notification system for themselves.

After 5 years, my garage/arrival home is working almost perfectly (almost). I still use Geo, but the door will only open if my phone is connected to the car's Bluetooth (not any Bluetooth, the car's Bluetooth MAC address). I've had it set up for almost 5 months, and I believe it's worked every time. So, Geo location turns to Home, confirms Bluetooth, and opens the garage.

I have a special need kiddo who won’t sleep with blankets but around 3am her room gets colder than the set 72 degrees on the heater she’s also sensitive to lights

What is the reason that switching to that small cable to connect to the sfp modules is faster then the ethernet? I understand it supports fiber but if you were using cat6 and you only get a gig wouldn't it be the same or is the fiber cable still just faster?

Yeah, nah, messy. Put a small rack up on the wall and run either a duct accross to the network box in the wall. Turn the rack-ears on the switch 90° and mount the switch inside the cable box. If you got keen, opend the plaster and pass cables in a conduit inside the wall. Otherwise, pull all cabling up and out of the wal-box and put into rack on wall up nice and high, out of the way and will be very tidy. As for the use of the DAC cable speeding things up, lol, thats a placebo effect dude. The switch is only a 16-porter and the SFP port is just that, SFP, not SFP+. Still only 1GbE
