    You gave me hope that I might actually be able to repair this ancient old road case my stepfather left me when he passed. It had a 62 Fender Stratocaster in it that rattled around. It also put (for lack of a better term) an adhesive residue on the neck of the guitar. I got the guitar cleaned up and it rests in a new case. I have kept this case knowing I would eventually find a way to repair it. I initially reached out to the manufacturer but they wouldn't return any kind of emails or phone calls asking about repairing the interior of this extremely heavy metal exterior road case. Now I think I have a couple more things to figure out before trying this. 1 I have to clean out the old interior so if I use the Strat for a mold like you did I will somehow need to raise the guitar off the bottom of the case in order to "foam the bottom". 2 will this raise the guitar and should I also weigh it down somehow? 3 what do I do with the top of the case? And 4 what kind of fuzzy stuff do I cover this new interior with? You gave me hope now I just need to answer some questions. Thank you!

    How much drops of hardner did you use?

  • @mericanhoney
    @mericanhoneyАй бұрын

    Follow the can, but what I said in the video is that I used 35 drops for a golf ball size portion of bondo. I am accustomed to the regular bondo hardener that is more like toothpaste. The liquid hardener that comes with the metal reinforced is a new thing for me

    I'm curious about using the foam filler as a backing. I've seen this approach used in auto body repair with poor results. It seems as though rust on panels is a result of moisture trapped on the inside surfaces, where it sits for long periods and the foam will just be more likely to hold and trap this moisture causing more and quicker rust formation. It would make more sense to attempt to address the moisture coming from the back or sides and allow trapped moisture to instead drain away. I would use a sheet metal patch and any bondo product once the moisture issue was addressed.

I've been researching for a solution to repair & restore rusted out metal lawn chair legs, and this seems to be the best shot at getting a few more years use out of them. I loved your thorough step-by-step instructions - very helpful for a "never done-it" beginner. 😎 Also loved watching the sped-up section of painting the doors. Hello Good Sir. I'm planning on making one of these for my good friend who lost her mom a couple weeks ago, a strong religious and music driven family. I wondering if you can help me with how you created the backing to attach the piano keys. I'm having a hard time with trying to figure out how to space the keys out . any help I would really appreciate it. super cool and beautiful.

  • @mericanhoney
    @mericanhoney3 ай бұрын

    I had a rectangular piece that I was going to cut for the back support. I laid out the keys in the shape of the wings on top to see what shape the backer board needed to be and marked it accordingly

  • @mericanhoney
    @mericanhoney3 ай бұрын

    Strike that, now that I'm remembering, I did join two boards together at an angle to start and then went on in the manner I described above. Essentially what I said, just not starting with a rectangle
