Thanks for your comment. The Quota Reform Movement in Bangladesh has been an ongoing student-led effort advocating for changes to the quota system in public sector jobs and educational institutions. 1. Origins of the Quota System 1972: The quota system was introduced in Bangladesh following independence to ensure representation for various groups, including freedom fighters' families, ethnic minorities, and disadvantaged communities. This system reserved a certain percentage of government jobs and educational seats for these groups. 2. Early Criticisms 2000s: Over time, criticisms of the quota system began to emerge. Critics argued that the system was being misused and that it led to inefficiencies and unfair advantages. There were concerns that quotas were being used for political gain rather than to benefit the intended groups. 3. Rise of the Quota Reform Movement April 2018: The Quota Reform Movement gained momentum when students from various universities in Bangladesh began to protest against the quota system. They argued that the system was being exploited and that it hindered merit-based recruitment and admissions. April 8, 2018: Students staged large-scale protests demanding a reduction in the quota percentage and a shift towards a more merit-based system. 4. Government Response and Concessions April 2018: In response to the protests, the government made some concessions. The Cabinet approved a decision to reduce the quota for government jobs from 56% to 10% while maintaining some reservations for specific groups. May 2018: The government formally announced the reduction in quotas, aiming to address some of the concerns raised by the protesters. 5. Continued Activism and New Demands 2019-2020: Despite the government's concessions, many activists and students felt that the changes were insufficient. They continued to advocate for further reforms, emphasizing the need for greater transparency and fairness in the implementation of the quota system. 6. Recent Developments (2021-2023) 2021: The movement saw sporadic protests and renewed discussions on quota reforms. Activists continued to push for more comprehensive changes and better implementation of the reduced quota system. 2022-2023: The issue remained a topic of public debate. Some student organizations and activists highlighted instances where the reduced quota system was still leading to perceived inequities and inefficiencies. 7. Quota Reform Movement in 2024 2024: The Quota Reform Movement remains active, with ongoing protests and advocacy. Students and activists continue to call for further reforms and better enforcement of the reduced quota system. The movement’s focus has expanded to address new challenges and ensure that the changes made are effectively implemented. I hope you understand about Quota Reform Movement. please pray for our student. god bless you
