What's the most last minute gig you've ever taken? I once photographed a wedding on two hours notice because the original photographer couldn't make it due to illness

Thanks for posting. What are your thoughts on the new AI driven flashes like the Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI?
@CaseyFatchett3 жыл бұрын
I don’t want the flash deciding where to bounce off of. Like I say in the video, you have to be careful what materials/colors you bounce against.

No it's a first. It's megapixels AT more speed... Something VERY different. But agreed on the new device lust...

It’s definitely an upgrade but I think “new device lust” outweighs the significance of actual improvements.

Curious, are you a professional photographer? What do you shoot? I just don't know of any camera that's going to last you 9 years of constant professional use. Wear & tear. That's why I ask.
@cogmission13 жыл бұрын
@@CaseyFatchett Do you disagree with my point? Future proofing is another reason to buy something you otherwise wouldn't, no? There are people still shooting weddings with Old Canon cameras! The sensor technology and performance (and potential for firmware upgrades) make this camera very eligible into the distant future - maybe not 10 years, but long enough for it to more than pay for itself, no?
@CaseyFatchett3 жыл бұрын
@@cogmission1 I don't disagree with the point of 'future proofing' that the camera will last for a while and will remain at a high quality in comparison to new models that come out for probably 4 or 5 years. I disagree with it lasting you for the rest of the decade. I haven't seen any listings for the number of shutter actuations the A1 is listed for but the A7 III is listed at 200,000. If you're shooting 2500-3k images per wedding, that's about 70 weddings before you start to get into the range where you can have a camera failure. Many pros shoot with two bodies, that decreases the number of actuations on any one body and extends the 'life' of the camera.

If you're shooting weddings professionally and shooting JPEG, you're not a real professional. A real professional would know that using gels or filters on speedlights to "match" the white balance is useless because when shooting RAW like all professionals should be, white balance makes ZERO difference.
@CaseyFatchett4 жыл бұрын
Magicapture Productions I’m not sure what you mean since I don’t recall saying anything about shooting JPG. I’ve been shooting RAW as long as I’ve been using a digital camera. And gels are used to match the white balance of the ambient light in the room so that the light from your flash units blends in. Or you can use them to create different lighting effects. Custom white balance or using different WB settings with or without gels can be used to create many different looks.

Thanks for bringing up the option of gelling the flash to match the ambient. This is a really simple solution that isn't often suggested but it can make a huge difference in the end-result.

Are you using TTL or manual on your on primary on camera flash. I don't use OCF too often but I do notice at some venus the TTL primary (on camera) flash will be affected by the OCF and fire at a much lower output and the shot will be dark. What's your thoughts....and nice video.
@CaseyFatchett5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the venue. Distance has a lot to do with how TTL is calculated. If I have high ceilings or a large space that I'm photographing in, I will use manual power on my on camera unit. Smaller venues where I am naturally closer to my subject, I use TTL because I don't want to overpower my subject with my on camera flash. I hope that helps!

Elizabeth Wagner Thanks for the video, just wondering when you are using the kicker light and still have your on camera speedlite, i assume you are bouncing? What are you doing with the on camera when you are using kickers but are unable to bounce off the wall or ceiling? Are you using it directly, any diffusion?
@CaseyFatchett5 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth Wagner depends on the venue. If I can bounce, I do, if not I’m using my on camera light towards the subject (diffused) or I have an off camera flash that’s pointing at them.
