    I think this is much simpler: 2^a - 2^b = 2016 >>> 2^a - 2^b = 2048 - 32 >>> 2^a - 2^b = 2^11 - 2^5. Therefore a=11 and b=5. Simples!

    If you plug the two complex solutions into the original problem and cube them, won't you wind up with a leftover i ? How can a complex number equal a real number?

    Yes, and there was also one other way to get the 3 roots (in R and C) of this "small" equation: x³ = 3³ ³√(x³) = ³√(3³) x = ³√27 ■ x = 3 --- euclidean division --- • dividend: x³ = 3³ => x³ - 3³ = 0 => x³ + 0·x² + 0·x - 3³ = 0 • divisor: x = 3 => x - 3 = 0 (x³ + 0·x² + 0·x - 3³) / (x - 3) = (x² + 3x + 9) x² + 3x + 9 = 0 Δ = 3² - 4·1·9 = 9 - 36 = -27 √Δ = ±i√27 = ±3i√3 • root #1: x = (-3 + 3i√3)/2·1 = -3/2 + (3/2)i√3 = 3/2(i√3 - 1) • root #2: x = (-3 - 3i√3)/2·1 = -3/2 - (3/2)i√3 = -3/2(i√3 + 1) ■ x = 3/2(i√3 - 1) ■ x = -3/2(i√3 + 1) 🙂

    What about expressing 4 = 2^2 and 8 = 2^3, which gives you, for the leftmost term (2^2)^8 / (2^3)^4 = 2^16 / 2^12 = 2^4 = 16. Then, the 2ns term is obviously the inverse of the first one, which immediately give 16 - 1/16 Seems a more straightforward start to me ... but that may be only me ;)

    @@PakMaths That said (I should have ended my post this way), thx for this kind of contents breaking out computations into small, easily understandable steps ... as a math teacher I am well aware of how useful this is (and for having trie, and given up, I am well aware of how time consuming doing such a video is) <3

    Interesting alternative method Let answer be x and square both sides x^2 = (4+sqrt(8))/(4-sqrt(8)) multiply top and bottom by (4+sqrt(8)) x^2 = ((4+sqrt(8))^2)/(16-8) x^2 = (16+8+8sqrt(8))/8 x^2 = 3+sqrt(8) x = sqrt(3+sqrt(8)) which surprisingly evaluates to the same result (1 + sqrt(2)) even though it looks nothing like it.

    Instead of going in for quadratic equation , use formula (a-b)²= (a+b)²-4ab to find out a-b. . We know a,+b .we knew a-b . From this a and b can be determined .

    You could drive west across the city to get a McRib. OR you could drive east 1 block and get a McRib. THIS PARTICULAR SOLUTION was the drive across town option. JUST MULTIPLY IT OUT. Because each product is the factor of the next multiplication problem, it takes less time with pencil and paper than jumping through math hoops.

    Or what is the purpose of any type of calculator with exponent functions. The whole reason to design such a technological serving device is to compute a simple addition of exponents like this for doing your "by hand calculating" without using a calculator. As I watched this video on a computer interface my computer interface has a built in calculator with the exponent function capabilities.
