A channel based on minimal style fishing without rods, reels, or moving components. Chasing bass, trout, and everything in between. If it fits in a small bag, and doesn’t weigh me down, count me in!
All you need is a hand reel to catch fish like the rest of them! A splash of bushcraft and survival on the side as well. Sometimes my dog tags along for the ride.
Hope you guys enjoy my non traditional fishing content, and be sure to check out Daggerfish Gear, my sponsor as well!

What do you keep in your tackle box for pan fishing?
Small bait holder hooks, split-shot, floats, etc. Usually if I am targeting panfish, I prefer a float rig
No fishing rod, doesn’t wet the line when tying knots, and he is using a spoon. I bet this guy has a hard time fishing.
Well I have caught over 6000 fish in two years using a hobo reel. Have over 200 KZread videos. So not really a hard time. Just takes practice.
Deli shoes!
Love the videos. I’m a machinist in Colorado. (Right on the Arkansas in Canon City). New to hobo reel but really enjoy your videos. Thanks man.
Nice, I work in a PA machine shop!
I've always wanted to cook a fish like that.
Can you use this in saltwater
Yes!
@@thehobohandliner what's the line you are using on that
@ShihabdeentheCyclist 8lb monofilament
Great video! Enjoyed seeing the projects you been working on at the HHH 😊 Looking forward to more DIY videos!
Very practical. Nice change of pace!
great video. I just had to do mine last weekend.
That one was %100 a redbreast. Probably male, the females usually don’t have that much color.
Good to hear! I only just recently started getting a few redbreast, and only in the creeks
Hi I have a Cuban yoyo reel I am using monofilament fishing. I want to know how to prevent line memory
I would guess on a yoyo that line memory wont be too bad since its a fairly large diameter reel. Its not too bad on my hobo reels, and They’re a pretty small diameter.
Killer video. Especially in this crazy heat 🥵
Nice batch of fish
Great stuff buddy! Im in SC and we have great outdoors here but y'all seem to have some great fishing in PA. The diversity of species caught on one lure in one general location was awesome! That chub at the end was INSANE!
Thanks for watching! Yeah i seem to be catching a good variety lately. Alot of the videos coming up/posted this summer, have 4-7 species
I got my hand line for Father's Day! I need more practice, but I'm having a blast!
Good to hear, you will get used to it quick
Fantastic video! Youre very inspiring for me to want to do my own handline fishing
Thank you for watching, glad to help inspire some folks
that was most likely a fallfish not a creek chub. fun video.
You may be right, thanks for watching!
In my home waters, I'm 10min away from the spillway. Right time of year, amazing fishing all the way up to striped bass that came over the spillway.
I saw a Musky in like 6 foot of water below the spillway out there!
Absolutely awesome video!!! I see you hit Rutters 😅 Like your shirt!
Absolutely brilliant! You're definitely onto a winner at that beautiful location. It would be awesome to see you do an overnight camp catch and cook now that summer's here. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
Thanks, thats a good idea!
Just found ur chanel , u have a new fan...
Yay!
Brother Man!!!!!!!!!! Nicely done you got me all pumped up being fathers day im going to go grab my dad and were going fishing!!!!!!!!!
Heck yeah have fun!
Do you have a video on what luers, baits, and rigs that you use. If you dont, could you please make one? I rexently carved mine and caught a 2 lb largemouth on a popper
I am constantly trying new rigs out, but I am gonna try to be more detailed on what I am using each video
@thehobohandliner ok thank you
Nice rock bass! I’ve caught two this year just by dropping my lure in some timber piles and lilys. Also did pretty good catching bluegills yesterday on a small silver crankbait. You should try using a crankbait on the handline 😂
I should try that lol
@@thehobohandliner I’ve noticed too that our states seem to have similar whether patterns so the fishing have similar behavior and rn in my state I’ve noticed that the blue are now at post spawn and seem to be less interested in grubs / insects during mid day and seem to be busy beating each other up 😅
Another good video. Thanks for sending me on my handlining journey.
What are PB’s?
Stands for “Personal best” so my biggest of that species
The crappie and bluegill are insane. You really have to work at catching anything other fish 😊 the bass and chub were insane
Found this channel last night. Went and made a hand reel out of an old spice shaker.
Love the water and nature sounds in this video. I'd never heard of handlining before but i love the vibe - not flexing a deep tackle chest, just catchin' fish with the least gear.
Thats good to hear positive feedback. Yup, I’m all about keeping it compact and simple
Nice catch! If this was for panfish Friday, you nailed it! haha. You should try Flonase for allergies. I have all-season allergies (including allergies in the esophagus) and Flonase seems to have been my best bet (recommended by a friend who’s a pharmacist).
Thank you, I will look into it!
Maybe it's just me, but i like the green sunfish. Is it normal for so many smaller fish to have a huge population? Its like the bass cant get past them.😊 I see that allergies are also very strong up by you. I hope the nasal strips help. Is it
Yeah theres alot of the bluegill and sunfish stacked up in these little creeks. Hard to get past em. Allergies are bad right now!
Huge! Huge creek bass! Way to go
The ned rig a good choice with your hand reel. Good day of fishing for sho💯
Sorry I'm late to watch the video,,,, I was out fishing. Creeks feeding a lake are great to fish in. I fished one this morning and caught several species.
Very cool! The creek water is more shaded, cooler, and flowing. So the fish aren’t getting sluggish from the heat!
Great review and tests!
You’ve been slaying them in videos lately!
Those sunfish were huge!! I've never seen them that big
Great video. I’m heading out after work today to do the same thing.
Awesome!!
Do you mind sharing where this spillway is?
Canoe creek park in PA!
I'm working in PA. Fishing spots are hard to find around here when you don't know know where anything is. I think based on some of your other videos we are relatively close to each other.
@Hi-TechHillbilly we may be! Where you located?
Harrisburg
@Hi-TechHillbilly thats about 2 hrs away from me. Im around the Altoona area
I’ve been spending the last 2 hours trying to get all the bones out, and didn’t even think to chop them up! Time saver thank you!
Yup!
Im using ten lb and we got carp 3ft long out here. Caught three rainbows yesterday and they were awesome but i reeeally want t hook a huge carp. Maybe a crawdad fly?
Not sure on the fly, never tried that!
That one super dark crappie is a fully spawning male black crappie or as some call them, tuxedo crappie . Any of them that dark are spawning 💯👌🏼
Great job on the build along videos. You have inspired me to start making my own.
This is exactly what I have reduced my kit to. I switched from # 6 and 8 circle hooks to #4 circle hooks, because they would swallow them whole and cutting them out isn't very easy. I also added a stick of fat wood. Great video for a bare bones minimalist kit.
Awesome, good to hear! Glad someone agrees with my style!
very cool video
New subscriber. Like the videos, enjoy the simplicity. What cameras do you use if you don't mind my asking?
All filmed on my Iphone 12 mini
@@thehobohandliner thanks, enjoy the videos
great intel. gracias. subd. HT🤙
Sorry about the editing error with the first clip guys!
No worries 👍
What a beautiful new location. I can't wait to see what other places you'll find to fish. That bass was like finding the prize ! Great video!
Would love to see footage of the trail that leads to the kiln at that lake.
Will the file on the rebar sharpen a cutting edge ( in a pinch). ?
Yup
Many thanks. I feel a rebar coming on….
