    Hi guys, a kiwi here living in Darwin! Loved your 4 videos on the Leeds Liverpool Canal - especially the last 2 as I lived in Bradford for close to a couple of years from 2021-23, and left there to live in Darwin where I teach at the high school. Anyhoo, used to ride regularly on the canal, either heading East to Silsden or West to Leeds itself at leat once or twice a week depending on the weather. The only reason I stopped at Silsden is that the towpath turned into a VERY rough track so I hear what you mean. I can't understand why they haven't invested sooner in upgrading the tracks. They would get so much more people on it and the local businesses would make a killing. BTW if you are in Darwin you can ride all the way to Coolalinga on a bike path, and all the way up to Buffalo Creek. T'rah!

    Nice video and welcome to England. Less than a minute in you call it a bike path, it is not, it is a tow path and pedestrians and fishermen have right of way over bicycles, the A frames and gates are to deter motorised vehicles and fast circling

    3 years ago I also walked from Fethiye to Kas, this spring I plan to walk all the way again, I saw you while watching videos for mental preparation. I just started watching. I hope your journey was enjoyable. I would like to correct a few mistakes and gaps. In the 1920s there was a war against Turkey between Britain, France, Italy, Russia and Greece. At the end of the war the Lausanne Peace Treaty was signed. In the treaty, the British delegate Lord Curzon proposed a population change, it was thought that living together after the war would bring difficulties. There were no Greek forced labor camps in Turkey either. There was a war and there were consequences for both sides. Kayakoy used to be a trading settlement and Fethiye was its port. The road you are walking on at the beginning of the video is the old road to the harbor. Kayakoy was abandoned because the Turks who came here were farmers, not traders, so they settled on the plain. Also there is no water in Kayakoy, each house has its own cistern to store water. Turks don't like to drink stored water unless they have to, and this is one of the reasons. That's why you can see fountains coming from springs all over Turkey.

    The weather has been fantastic.....it's about 30 degrees on Paros today (24th of October) the water is chilly but definitely swim able. It feels like we have the island almost to ourselves. If I could give one really clear bit of advice it is to avoid southern Europe in July and August ..... too hot, too crowded and too expensive. Middle of September to end of October is the sweet spot. Most places are still open, no crowds, temps are just right, prices are better and no lines

    Charlie says" we are dust" but if you add water we could be mud. BTW have you thought of adding sealent in your tyres to stop the flats?

  • @adventuresofafatman
    @adventuresofafatman9 ай бұрын

    Yes the wheels we have are not tubeless ready however I would buy innertubes with slime if I could find them. In these countries I had to drill out the valve holes to fit 26" tyres with car valves as couldn't find 27" with presta valves. There is a common type of ground cover here that is totally covered in detachable woody thorns. You don't get a single thorn flat you get at least 3 or 4. Also the thorns break and sit in the tyre .... becoming fairly undetectable then when you pump up the tyre they only repuncture the intertube after its underload. It can be damn annoying 😒

    @@adventuresofafatman 700c tyres are the most popular these days so finding other sizes can be a challenge. I had to throw away perfectly good tyre once coz there was something in it I couldnt find. You can buy sealent to put in the tubes but will need tubes with removable valves

    Doing a great job of getting me jealous. Europe is spectacular from the scenery to the ornate buildings. The kraken seems quite nice, nothing like a scary octopus

  • @adventuresofafatman
    @adventuresofafatman10 ай бұрын

    With the kraken looks can be deceiving she is truly terrifying on occasion. Just the other day I rode off ahead and she called me up dressed me up and down resulting in me immediately turning round and riding back so she could have her morning coffee. I totally agree with your statement about Europe, it's awesome. It's hard to express how great it is to cycle tour also how nice the great majority of drivers are if you have to use the roads. I could wax on and on about the difference from australia from the landscape, the cycle paths, the safety and accomadations for cyclists. I love Australia but for cycle touring give me Europe and the UK every time. Also the distances in Europe are not as daunting.
