engines are made of 100's of different pieces that waer differently enough you coulnd't easily swap parts between even another engine from the same run. with that in mind here is no way to garuntee without beddng in and dyno testing and limiting the ones that over perform before they give the engies to the teams. thats a LOT of wear before the teas would get it. and only real way to keep it fiar as you suggest would be a new engine every race for all the teams which really isn't viable. as for the random, how else would you garnutee fairness in engine allocation, if Mecachrome have no say over who gets what engine they can't be accused of passing team A a shit engine purposfully or saving the good one for team B

I don't understand why F2 can't have an engine program like NASCAR. Reliability is prime and you stand to make a ton of money if you can supply an entire grid with a solid engine. But no! They cheap out on cost of development to make the % profits look better. I think F2 needs to look for a new manufacturer, while also staying relevant to F1.

Man, even though this year of Formula 2 is super competitive, it is such a shame it has been going downhill lately. It was so good during the 2018-2023 seasons despite the bad luck some of the drivers got with the engine but I have been seeing a couple of videos on this Meccachrome engine potentially affecting F2 as a fair spec series now: F1Duck's video and yours. I hope I am wrong, I hope you are wrong and I hope everyone worried about the legitimacy of F2 are also wrong because I do enjoy Formula 2 and I found it awesome that this series was down to the driver's talent rather than the car (since most of the teams are as equal as they can get). However, I'm noticing more and more the amount of drivers who raced in F2 in previous years that could have been championship contenders if their engine was more reliable. Think of Jehan Daruvala in 2020, Theo Pourchaire in 2022, Liam Lawson in 2022, Christian Lunguuard in 2021, Felipe Drugovich in 2021, Callum Illott in 2020 (as exposed by Pedro Piquet if I'm not mistaken), etc. It is odd that it more people are worried this year now that the new Dallara car is being used and because Prema absolutely stink this year in terms of performance compared to other teams. Makes you wonder, doesn't it. Anyway, great video Joseph. Sort of had to be talked about at some point. 👍 If what you said about the engine is proven to be true later down the line, that isn't good news for the FIA and Bruno.

this video is quite outdated, I live next to the autodrome, its very active, with weekly events, the area initially was on the outskirts of dubai compared to downtown but has since been developed significantly. dont know much about financials but the sound of engines doesn't stop, and they host quite nice drag races too every week or so.

What do you mean it's collecting dust? You have been misinformed. The area is super active, new properties are being built all around it with barely any vacancy. The track has recently built a business park for car garages and auto services, fully rented, phase 2 has been fully rented and now phase 3 is being built and it's already fully booked.

This is totall misleading. 2007 stoner won on a bike that was developed by capirossi 2011 he won on a bike that was developed by dani. And every single year in motogp he has outperform all his teammates on the same bike. Nicky hayden was teammate to rossi and stoner. Stoner outperformed him every singke year by a miles and when rossi came into ducati? He barely outperform hayden despite being provided with stoner data. Rossi isnt happy with alot of things with yamaha, data sharing and he didnt like lorenzo being his equal. So he left for ducati trying to prove stoner is a bad rider and yamaha made a mistake. After 2 years. Rossi went crawling back to yamaha

Reality: rossi fighting for his life not to lose front end and crash. Barely outperform nicky hayden on the same bike while stoner outperformed hayden every single year by a miles😂

And the sad thing is there’s people that treat this series like it’s flawless. They treat the standings like gospel. Mercedes dropped Aron despite a good F3 year and a great start to F2, Red Bull retained Hadjar despite poor results last year, Bearman has been promoted to F1 despite poor results this year. What do all these teams have in common with one another about their drivers? Data. They can see that F2 should be taken with a pinch of salt due to the lottery of who gets what. So they use the data of their academy drivers to judge whether they should be kept or not. Because data of how good they’re performing in F1 cars gives teams a better idea of how they’d perform in F1 than what results in a fugazi F2 series would. Crazy concept I know And it’s not just the engines that have a massive disparity either and are randomly allocated. The chassis are as well. What I’ll say is treat the series as any other series you watch for entertainment purposes. Do not treat it as watching the stars of F1s future fighting it out in equal machinery because it simply isn’t true

  • @matthew5200

Victor Martins, Antonelli, Bearman, and many more would've had much more competitive seasons if it wasnt for this issue. Even the likes of pepe marti, zak osullivan, or miata, theres no way they coukdve adapted to F2 so badly, the unequal engine theory is making a lot more sense as the season unfolds.

The issue with the engines is simple: The turbocharging. F3 also uses a 3.4L V6, but the F3 engine is a non-turbo, and actually forms the basis for the F2 engine. Depending on who's talking, somewhere between 70-90% of the internals are unchanged. The F2 versions simply can't handle the increased power from the turbos reliably. Mecachrome is absolutely capable of making a reliable engine - the F3 engines are solid, and their old GP2 V8s were also very good. They simply cheaped out on the F2 turbo engine and refuse to fix it.

It sounds like when you say engine disparity you’re explaining issues with spec racing. In this case, it looks like they gave the contract to too small of a company. There has to be an engine supplier who can handle that volume with consistency. I have other problems with f2, like the champion gets banned for winning and is usually screwed because there’s no f1 seats available.

Oh yeah, this is a HUGE problem. Not only in 2018 were there signs of it being faulty but from at least 2020, there's always someone getting screwed over BIG time. From Pedro Piquet saying Ilott have a crap engine at the end of that year to Lundgaard's second bad season to Marino Sato's deleted 7th engine tweet to Cordeel being all of a sudden a front runner after a race ban to Jack Doohan's difference in performance in the first & second half of last year, it again shows how huge this issue is (you forgot to add how Miyata said the difference of his and Maloney's engine performance at the post season test last year was around half a second, which is so big and that already vindicated me on how big the disparity is).

Great racing in the series but thats with most junior categories. Seeing drivers like Stanek, Verschoor at the back atm, Markelov with his old pink trash can, and Lawsons struggles after how he has done so well in other seasons, and just inexplicable volatility of certain top top drivers results - it's just wrong, F2 is just a lottery to get to F1 at major risk if killing a drivers career, like championship teams going all in to get to the premier league. Great video mate 👌
