First year bees thrive on neglect. Personally I wouldn't add a super for another couple of weeks and you can stop feeding them. When you do add frames make sure that they have a decent coat of wax. I also paint a bit of honey on mine so that the bees move across the frames. The honey that is filling your first frames is from the sugar water that you are giving them.

I checked them yesterday and they are moving into those new frames thank goodness

Hi Matt, looking forward to watching your progress this year. Greetings from 55° North in England. If you are only running a few hives, as a new beekeeper with fiesty bees you may want to consider a perspex viewing panel under the metal roof.

This is great! Pawpaw Sammy has a suggestion if you’re having an ant problem. Find something to make small legs for your hives (could be anything- like tea light candles or pvc pipe), and place those “legs” in water. That way the ants can’t go through the water and up to the hive! (The water makes a barrier)

When you bend over your veil touches your face, bees will find that eventually and tag you on the tip of your nose/chin. If you wear a cap under the veil the bill pushes that veil out, some veils have a flappy stiff piece that velcros it out.

One day your dad will get stung directly in the eyeball, and everytime people ask how he lost an eye he'll have to tell the story about how he used to think he looked tough because he used to refused to wear a bee suit, and now he has to wear a suit because he realises hes only one eye away from being handicapped from bees 😂

Great video. Very similar to how I make bedding for my euros. One suggestion that I would add for those using "worm chow" is to only feed on the surface. Just sprinkle the feed on the surface and gently scratch it into the top 1/8" of bedding then mist with water to moisten it. This will prevent your feed from clumping which makes it easier for the worms to eat it.
