The government shouldn’t determine the price of goods. Apple is free to charge what they want. The people are free to buy what they want. You then agree in the comments that’s it’s not sub $100 to build an iPhone. What is the point of the is short?

I agree that apple can charge whatever they want and if that gets to be too much people can stop. In the comment you’re referring to I said by the time it’s all said and done it’s probably more meaning by the time the phone is built and ultimately ship to America and then transported to the store to be sold (note that they are produced in china and in many cases workers are payed next to nothing which is very unfortunate and one of many reasons I try to get locally produced products when I can) . It costs almost as much (which is very little) on the American end to get that phone to a store as it does to produce it. A few years ago an iPhone cost roughly $8 to produce and then about that much to get it on a shelf, prices are slightly higher now but still cheap. As for the point of this short wasn’t to say the government is right or that apple needs to lower their prices (although it would be nice lol) it was to state a fact that we go further into on an episode of the podcast and shorts make for good reach when trying to build a low budget podcast such as this lol

And with ios 18 coming out, its finally gonna do what androids have been able to do forever, customization at every price point, other than maybe security, what does Apple do different that makes it worth buying at such a high price?

Ease of use is apples big selling point as well as they’ve built a large cult like following with their marketing that will buy their products no matter what. Not saying that’s a good reason to buy but people do

@GoodButNotSoftPodcast fair, I don't understand how it's easier to use and maybe it's because I've only used androids, I got very frustrated trying to navigate on an iPhone at first, maybe I'm dumb. I feel like that's more of an excuse to not say, "because everyone else and everyone I know uses an iphone or because of iMessage"

@@brianvillamor8839 I have older people in my family that didn’t have a smart phone until recently and someone got them an android and as long as had it they couldn’t navigate it so they eventually got an iPhone and were able to take to using it much quicker. But then I also know people who are extremely tech savvy and for sure way smarter than I am who hate iPhone because they can’t do all the advanced things on one that they can do on an android so I think it kinda comes down to preference and in some cases what you’re using it for

@@brianvillamor8839 I can’t remember all the specifics but I know they just had a hard time trying to do things and couldn’t figure out how to even text people (shouldn’t have been that hard but this person is 4x my age and it was their first smartphone and they still use a house phone as their primary means of communication) so then they tried an iPhone and thought it was better (it’s still rough getting things like texts from them lol)

China is more like a monarchy. Where everyone serves the CCP and if you speak out your gone. No one is actually equal. Those with power can almost torture those without.

I agree they definitely are upping the prices a lot, but there’s no way it’s sub $100. Just to buy the lcd screen it’s at least half that. 😂

From what I’ve researched it’s less than $100 for the parts needed to make the phone (that number is taking the products prices pretty early in the manufacturing process for a lot of them). Obviously there’s labor as well as the cost to operate the places where the phones are made. I wouldn’t be surprised if by the time everything is all said and done the cost to manufacture a phone is a couple hundred but I think we can all agree that it probably shouldn’t cost $1,500 for a new phone. But I’m also a dirty capitalist lol and with supply and demand they can choose to raise their prices they just have to know if they go too far at some point people will stop paying for their products
