Every time I merge these layers, or export as an fbx or obj, it reverts back to its initial state without simulation. Do you have any tips for exporting the simulated chains?
In the Rigid Body tag, go to Cache tab and press "Cache Scene". After that you can export to FBX and the sim will be baked into keyframes.
Does this work in the new 2024 particle system? Would love to se an updated turotial!

How to solve object overlap
I think you can set the simulation as a volume using "particle system" instead of an emitter. Could also include them in mograph somehow (possibly with a connect and/or fracture object) and use the "push apart" effector. Alternatively, turn the variation on the emitter right down until you can space them apart equidistant and aren't touching. Then add randomness back in with more forces and effectors like turbulence or displace
But it doesn't works with rigid body dynamics. I mean scaling(Inflating) with effector

This is an alternative approach - a procedural one, providing more and easier control to adjust the extrusion later, if needed.

I have not been able to get the emitter to work on a modeled object as opposed to a primitive.
Have you selected "show objects" in the emitter?

Thanks for this. I tried it and it worked. Although when I made the object a rigid body so that it can be collected into a bottle, it didn't follow the helix path. Is it possible to do this?
