I have been following this car, since I read about it in Hot Rod magazine, in the 1980's. It was a story about an all out highway run, which this car destroyed all the rest of the competition. To see they have kept up with the tradition of Big Red, makes me smile.

Man. I've been in that situation talking to another guy about the plan to fix a car or trying to find a part we didn't have during a race weekend and the driver stands just within ear shot and keeps asking how long it's going to take, when do you think it'll be done, is it almost ready, how's it looking? Goddamn. Just like impetuous little children. And when it comes to anything mechanical, they can't find their asshole with both hands and a flashlight.

I have a technique I use for Rally/Hillclimb (point to point racing) where I record the first session in POV, once back in paddock I don't even get out, I replay the POV right on the dash in front of me and mimic the inputs to sus out where I was confident or not.. then I look at data. Helps me burn in the course faster because everything is fresh, and I repeat it the same. Good Luck and Be Safe and Have Fun gents!

The dirty secret of this event is that people die sometimes. My friend Carl Young who owns a Porsche shop in Las Vegas in an identically prepared Porsche 911 twin turbo blew the left rear tire mid course at 195 mph. He lost control of the car, went off the road up a small hill, 450 feet airborne then 12 end over end rolls. There was nothing left of the car except the roll cage and two critically injured occupants in their racing seats. His wife lived but Carl had shatter his left arm in 52 places and broke his neck in two places. It took two years for Carl to die and it was hard to watch. I helped pick up the debris. I was in an identical Porsche and one car ahead of Carl and we finished with an average speed of 187.6 mph. I had 3 young children at that time and decided that was my last open road race. On a race track you can have a bad day and bend some expensive equipment, but you probably won’t die in a wreck. At 200 mph in an open road race, if you have a problem you’re going to go off the road and all bets are off.

I'm #1 view and comment, like Big Red! Used to race SCCA. Crap like this happened all the time. Once before a big race a buddy wanted to help set up. I told him to swap tires. He jacked the car up by the radiator. That was the end of that race.

Ditch the hood scoop. You're already having to push the air at the front of the car, use it.

I raced against you guys way back in the day at the old Silver State run....the year the Porsche 959 gruppo scattered a motor down about 1/2 mile of track. I was the guy in the other red 69 Z28 with the 10k rpm small block......but my stripes were black :) I don't even remember....84-85-86 or so ? Yea, it's been awhile.
