Biggest mistake I ever made, was to quit smoking. I gained 140 pounds. I struggled with diet and exercise but I could not stop the weight from coming on. I went from a slim 135 pounds all the way up to a pot belly 275. My waist went from a 32 to a 50. I got kicked out of the navy for being obese and I lost my valuable retirement benefits, if I could have stayed in. I developed severe sleep apnea and I'm a borderline diabetic. Had I known I was going to get fat like this, you best believe, I'd have never quit smoking. I'd rather get cancer or emphysema anytime compared to the rest of my life being big and fat

As a family physician NJMS 1983, I was told that I would waste my life in primary care. NJMS was hostile towards family medicine. Jefferson was much much more supportive. I hope medical education culture in NJ has changed in support of family medicine

Blocking MToR results in blockage of protein synthesis right? Does this process results in increase in Sarcopenia(Muscle wastage) which accelerates aging and leads to death?

When I graduated in 1982 from this school it was called Rutgers Medical School! I eventually went on to an Ophthalmology residency at Temple University Hospital! This school absolutely prepared me to be a competitive candidate for a specialty residency. Best of luck to all the 2024 graduates!

22 years heavy smoker, quit for 90 days today. very difficult. i think the key is to 'get prepared for boredom'. the first few days i felt absolute boredom, nothing to do, what to do now? , something is terribly missing, always want a cigarette, dont want to get up, and life is very meaningless. to be ready to live in this boredom was my biggest helper i believe. it is a war and the weapon that is fighting you and attacking you every day is 'boredom'. you need to be prepared for it, and you wont be able to destroy it, just be ready to face it every day and do not say i give up. it will keep coming every minute probably. no problem, just stand your ground.

It’s been 5 weeks for me from quitting smoking & vaping. 2 things have ruined my past quitting attempts. I have too much to drink and I buy a pack. I gain too much weight and decide to go back to smoking lose 20 lbs., then quit again. This time I quit smoking, drinking and weighing myself. It’s a struggle to quit.
