Great interview as usual, Irina! Loved listening to Dawn and learning about her creative process.
You have good friends
The best!
Fantastic 👏👏👏
Thank you!
What is it like a puppy rope?
Skeins of yarn

Wow!
I learned so much from watching Stephen. Mostly don't worry about making it perfect. Just keep going! I became much more productive with my knitting. Oh yeah and now I'm addicted to brioche!
He makes everything seem manageable
Loved the footage at the end! Elizabeth is such an accomplished fiber artist...loved hearing her story!
I don’t as so glad she reached out to me after h+h
Thank you so much for introducing me to this designer!! I loved & totally agree with what she said about knitters being able to find their people in a group. Thank you!!!
Yes, it was such a good point!
Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful. Could you do a video that shows make one right and left in this way of knitting? Thanks!
What a great warm friendly interview, I loved the question about what the sheep taught Elizabeth, and I loved her answer just as much. Thanks for the pictures at the end. The sheep looked so happy and peaceful grazing outside, their was so much green !!! Do they shear the sheep themselves or can they get a shearer to come only for 3 sheep ?
We did go to sheep shearing "school" last year. We learned the basics of sheep shearing and have managed to shear sheep. The man who taught the school has done thousands of sheep all over the world and is amazing to watch. But he will tell you straight up that it is back-breaking work, and my husband and I can now attest to that! He can do a sheep in less than 5 minutes - my record time is approximately an hour. We have decided that the best money we spend all year is to hire a shearer. We have learned to get in touch with him in early spring, find out when he's in our area, and do whatever we have to do to make our schedule work with whenever he is able to come. :)
@@ElizabethKayBooth Great idea, so he can come and shear when he is nearby !!!
I’m not sure, I’ll ask Elizabeth
@@Fiberchats No need Elizabeth answered.
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
It’s so odd to hear someone referred to any type of knitting as “selfish“. Sounds like a moral judgment being applied to a craft😂
I love these videos where we can see your hands stitching! How do you decide whether to use continental or combination continental?
I always knit combination, I just find it easier. As long as you understand stitch orientation, there is no reason really to switch styles. My only exception is colorwork, I prefer knitting continental in one and throwing in another hand
@@Fiberchats thanks for responding. I tried color work once and did it the same way
Thanks Irina for this video. I use the combination method already in simple patterns. Your explanations showed me the way! How do I handle yarn overs? Simple cables such as 1/1 LC and 1/1 RC? Cable without a cable needle?
There is another video on increases and decreases in this playlist you might find helpful. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d2Wbw5Rrede_drQ.htmlsi=euKFhKAfCz3FwhgJ
@@Fiberchats I have already seen all of your great tutorials. Thank you for helping, Irina. Now I would like to knit lace with combination knitting and I can’t manage it so far. Especially in combination with cables.
@@nixkbing1192 I’ll be teaching a lace class in September and I’ll film some of it as a lace tutorial. I’ll also try to make a cable demo for you. Just give me some time:)
@@Fiberchats Take your time, please! No hurry.
I’ve had the book for a couple of years, but I haven’t read it all the way through. But after listening to this interview, I’m going to start reading it today. This interview is so valuable! I just ordered a small clock to put next to my knitting station that I can program to take breaks. THANK YOU 😀🌷
Great idea! Cheers to healthy crafting
Economically friendly? FOR SURE!
Ergonomically 😂
@@zeenies222 gotchya! Thanks
Personally, I prefer short instructions. The shorter the better. For me it's enough to know that I need to increase or decrease a certain amount of stitches and I always prefer charts to written out constructions. Actually I still have two longterm WIPs that I really struggle to finish, simply because they don't use charts. It's only written up instructions. Yes I can knit from that aswell, but I find it very tiring and harder to memorize. Everything takes so much longer. For me it actually takes the fun out of my knitting. I'd rather knit a scandinavian or japanese pattern, even though I don't understand any of those languages than have to read through too many pages of detailed, but at least for me unecessary instructions. Of course it's nice to have the numbers for the sizes, so I don't have to figure out the math. Not that I couldn't do that, but it's convinient to have. Well, with so many people out there the needs differ a lot of course.
I find charts also much easier to follow than written instructions
I found it so interesting to listen to both you and Corrine talk about designing and all that goes in to it. So many times, us knitters never give that a thought and think that it's pretty easy. So, kudos to the both of you for persevering! Her designs are lovely.
Thank you!
❤❤❤😊😊😊lots of love!
Hi Ladies great knits 💜💜
What a lovely couple. I was just at the Australian sheep and wool show this weekend and was chatting to Jarrod. Didn’t know they had been on ur podcast. Next year Irina u need to come to Australia to the show. A very different vibe from Vogue Knitting but I think u would like it.
I’ve seen a lot of pictures from the festival. Looks lovely
I taught myself knitting and for a looong time i couldnt find any videos online of people knitting the way I do. It's such a relief what I'm doing is a real thing! Definitely we need more videos about combined continental, it's really the simpliest and most organic way of knitting 😊
I agree!
Another great interview! You ask such good questions, and Joji is so friendly and open. I did like how she started asking you questions towards the end!
It helped that we spend a lot of time together in Italy
I'm currently spinning the yarn for a princess shawl (gossamer) and lord I'm so excited for this
That’s one of the most beautiful shawls! Definitely on my list of things to knit in this lifetime. But handspun, just wow!
Looking forward to see this! ❤
What a lovely time I had listening to you both! Joji, it’s always a pleasure to hear your stories! Irina, thank you for another wonderful interview! Your shawl is stunning, gorgeous!
Thank you Lotta! ❤️❤️
Hi! This looks like Eastern European Knitting. My Turkish grandmother taught me. I didn't have a name for it until recently
Yes, it has many names. I also have full tutorial on my channel with an explanation of stitch orientation
Beautiful and interesting interview! ❤❤❤
Loved this interview,Irina. An inspiring woman, Bridgit is Great admiration and resoect for you all.Have a good week.xx🙏👋🌏🐨❤️
❤️❤️
What a dynamic couple! I live in Massachusetts too. So if they ever come to your driveway, maybe I could stop by! 😄
Sounds like a great plan!
Thank you for sharing your fabulous trip with us. My mouth was watering from the food, the scenery was gorgeous, and the meditative music was mesmerizing.
Yes, the food was definitely a highlight!
This interview was so interesting. I always love listening to business owners who are responsible for everything...lots of planning and discipline and lots of hard work. Dawn seems to have mastered that. I will check out her website.
I always find it hilarious when I receive an email addressed to my team ( me, myself and I)
You’ve made great progress! That color and stitch pattern are a fantastic combo!
This design is an engineering marvel
Thanks for interviewing Dawn. I've been a big fan of hers for a long time. She is very talented!
Great interview, thanks for the pictures at the end !!! My favotire knit ever was made with an assign pooling yarn and a patern cerated just for it : " Turn It To The Max" by Joanne Bint. I was so happy knitting that, I was wondering if I should slow donw to make the pleasure last or if I should hurry to get the finished object. I did hurry, I love that little shawl, still wear it a lot. I might try to knit another one just for the pleasure.
It looks like a lot of fun
That color is amazing...it could only make you happy😍
Perfect for the summer!
Love the color and the stitch pattern! 💕
This yarn gives a beautiful stitch definition
I love assigned pooling, and I have a couple skeins specifically for it, though I haven't started the projects yet. I loved this interview!
I’ve learned a lot from Dawn
Fascinating! This is really a “best” choice for pooling yarns. We see them on a rack in the store and fall in love with the color combinations. Then comes the challenge of what to make, to avoid ugly changing pools. With assigned pooling, it’s again all about how the colors play together- the reason we bought that skein in the first place.
Very true!
Irina, thanks for this interview with Dawn. I had heard about planned pooling with crochet but not too much with regards to knitting. What a great technique - her website patterns and yarns are simply stunning. A technique I must try someday.
I’m going to try it too
Thank you for such an interesting interview. I ordered some yarn from Shankrok a few months ago to do a pattern by Eri which is still on the needles. It is fascinating and enriching to hear the story behind the yarn. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!

Wonderful interview, Irina. I was fortunate to meet Dawn and her husband at the HCW Retreat in 2022, then saw them again that same year at DFW Fiberfest. They’re both lovely and so down to earth. Listening to her reminisce about Suzanne brought a tear to my eyes. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Nancy!
Wonderful interview - I took a class from Dawn soon after she released AP - she’s a genius and love both her designs and her gorgeous yarns.❤ OHHHH her early peeks at slipped stitches and AP - the Breezeway is stunning and I can’t wait to see it released!!
Thank you for watching Carol!
thank you for sharing your trip , i will be doing your shawl pattern . I am spinning as i watched
Will you knit it with your hand spun yarn! I’m so flattered! Please keep me posted

Wow, work of art.
Another great interview! And what a special guest. I know this is an older one, but still relevant! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
This looks fabulous! Great colours and this lovely model displays it beautifully.
Thank you!
