BASHIR: I'm sorry you feel that way. I thought you enjoyed my company. GARAK: I did! And that's the worst part. I can't believe that I actually enjoyed eating mediocre food and staring into at your smug, sanctimonious face. This exchange always gets me!

And this is why in the Real World no husbands and wives should ever be assigned to anything resembling the same combat unit.

God.. Andrew Robinson is such a fucking amazing actor. Imagine delivering this performance under a pound of makeup, being told you have to act as if you’re an alien. Gives me chills.

In the grand scheme of things, Trip was DAMN lucky to get away from this with just a scolding from Archer. Trip did indeed disobey orders from his superior officer and that would have warranted a court martial.

One of the worst scenes in Star Trek and irresponsible way of dealing with suicide. Archer should have gone the "your actions were noble, and while i agree with your point of view, positive intentions can lead to negative consequences" Chewing out Trip was disgusting.

This was bad Writing. Trip followed the example that Archer put forth time and time again. And bad writing is what kills a series.🤷‍♂️

I love that for once in this series, they let the actors and dialogue speak for themselves instead of spelling everything out for the audience. Archer never once raised his voice at Trip because he knows Trip already feels horrible and shouting at him won't fix anything but he still has to reprimandhim. And instead of the cliché shouting, "I said GET OUT!" He says nothing as if to say you heard me.

Nah. Cardassians are very guarded. Tactical. Cool. Showing what you truly feel would be a sign of weakness to them. That's why Garak is pissed, because humans allow each other to show their honest feelings.

If Scotty got to meet the descendants of Admiral Morrow after he was rescued from the wreckage of the U.S.S. Jenolin by the crew of the Enterprise-D, would they hold him rand his friends from the old Enterprise responsible for making a fool out of Harry Morrow for disobeying his direct orders after he refused to let Kirk have his ship back and get Spock back to Vulcan after realizing Spock sent his spirit to McCoy by the mind-meld while saving the old Enterprise from Khan's last act of revenge against Kirk? Morrow never offered his condolences to Kirk for the loss of his son.

I know I'm probably alone here but I thought Archer was very wrong in what he said. That would haunt Trip forever. At the end of the day Trip didn't bully the girl, he tried to make her life better. Archer who is usually kind hearted was way too harsh. It would hit Trip badly enough without being told it was actually his fault. As those people met other cultures Trip wouldn't be the only one questioning their values. It was literally say what you see.

This was a very controversial episode for Star Trek and a very good one. It seems amusing now the crew's shock at discovering they have 3 genders when we today have about 180.

This was a really gutsy ending to the episode. It's just utterly bleak, no "it's sad but actually here's the happy unexpected silver lining to make you feel better" part.

I don't see how this can be a moral lesson. the captain is the asshole here. he basically sends an asylum seeker back to their slavers for the sake of diplomacy, and rubs it in trips face when they kill themselves. this is the shit you would see villains do to coerce their enemies. its evil.

I understand Trips intentions to help a person who's treated like a second class citizen with a shitty culture that turns them into a breeding mill. I get he wanted to help Charles be it's own person but Trip offered it false hope. I understand why Archer was pissed it wasn't that Trip was wrong per se. I think Archer understood Trips good intentions but he didn't want anyone on his crew to make those kind of mistakes that he would've made had he been in that position himself. Archer puts his trust in his crew to be smarter and offer insight or at least speak up if they think he's making a mistake. The senior officers represent Earth, Trip's good intentions may have cost the United Earth an ally and cost someone their life.

  • @PKAC972

What Archer tried to explain before, and emphasizes even more now, is that what Trip did was wrong not because it is wrong to fight for equal rights, but to do so on such an occasion while they were making first contact as Starfleet officers.

The only time I understood the prime directive, or in this case, why they created it in the first place. Most of the time, It seems very stupid, like, did you notice all the time they mention the prime directive is because they are going to violated it? XD But this time, has a point, who are we human to say what's wrong or good to other space culture? Why our moral is superior? This is bad of course, but only from our point of view and that's the point of the episode.

It's the year 2023 and this show try to warn us 10 years ago. What might happen and how to handle it? Did we pay attention? No we just canceled it. They try to warn us about the trans gender and how to appropriately handle them instead of being jerks about it. Transgender and cancel. Think about it! Or maybe the reason it happened we don't know
