As I understand it, it was natural (un-enrinched) Uranium for fuel. I have no idea if they ever reprocessed the spent fuel to get any byproducts.

.... it's so funny that people are so fascinated with this specific disaster just like they're so fascinated with the holocaust when they were genocides that eclipse it by orders of magnitude just like this, which wasn't even that bad of an incident. There were worse disasters in that region, there were worst disasters that decade it's just so funny that people are so fixated on this because of a shitty HBO show. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

@@ericgattenby6857 .... and I guess that's my whole question is why what is the fascination with this? It was literally just incompetent. Bureaucracy brought on by communism that resulted in one of Inumerable disasters during the same time span....

@LadyBits2023 when I tell you when my interest started, hint not from "the shitty HBO show," you suddenly shift your argument about my interests. It appears there is nothing from a historical perspective that you would grasp (another hint, I went to college with a Ukranian survivor of this disaster), so.... you can continue your disdain for any who do study it, and to get a better understanding of what/why/who/how. I will not respond to any further of your comments.

It's extremely sad. Pripyat was clearly a well designed city made for the burgeoning middle class of the Soviet Union. It's only flaw was that it was in close proximity to a poorly designed nuclear reactor. Thanks for sharing the video 👍🏻

If I worked there, I would demand all tourists put their monitors on alarm only with a much higher setpoint. That beeping is incessant, unnecessary and you cant hear the information. To be fair these guys aren't as bad with them as some videos I've seen.... bionerd being the worst. No one who works in the industry uses digital monitors in that mode. The analog ones make noise inherent to their design, but they are only used in limited situations. Much respect for all the tour guides' patience.

The place most likely has radio active micro size dust particles. They are wearing masks to help avoid breathing dust particles. They cover their hair and head to avoid getting dust particles in to their hair. But, there is no eye protection. The skin of their face is exposed! The type of masks they are wearing is not very efficient to block extremely small dust particles. This is from my perspective.
