I’ve heard and read about Leontyne Price, but I’ve never heard any of her songs, until now.She, Marian Anderson and Jessie Norman are some of the greatest opera singers in the world. I am going to listen to their songs, for once in my life. Love, Kenny.

The high register is forced and does not fit into the full register. The whole sound is cloudy and not homogeneous over the whole range. The language is hardly understandable. The top notes are always forced and pale. One of the most overrated tenors of our time. Good looking alone is not sufficient. Listen to his recordings without seeing him makes clear what is meant! Compare this interpretation with that of exceptional tenors such as Wunderlich, Gedda, Pavarotti, Kraus etc. No words and no comparison at all. Completely another class!

Price was for me one of the greats, but i find this rendition a little rushed and uninvolved. But the voice was a marvel.

Hank ... ■ Yeah ! You're right ! It is rushed & she is uninvolved. She was always a horrific actress ; here, her "coloratura" is a little better than the recording and there isn't much nuance ; it's kinda heavy ... but, this aria is not always done all-that well ( the trills are what makes this aria so fantastic ). Price has very pretentious mannerisms which always prevented _involvement._ She was always the diva ( opera singer, first ). The only time she was dynamite was her recording of _Carmen._ We couldn't see her face, but the vocal-characteristics proved to be her greatest performance. There were no pretentions ; no mannerisms ; just dramatic, seductive vocal-power & I think it had to do w / Corelli's magnificent _Don Jose ;_ also _his_ greatest vocal-performance.

В этой нешуточной арии ей не хватало и голосовой мощи (что превосходно понимал Ливайн, очень тактично поддерживая ее пение), и верхов, что доказала на пределе возможности спетая не лучшим образом кульминационная нота, и низов, что продемонстрировал измененный финал арии. Основное удовольствие я получил от умного и тонкого оркестра в руках большого мастера.

She was 64 years here and she still aimed directly at my heart. Her emotional singing has no competition to me. She is responsible for my love of opera. She directly caused it. She captured me with her voice. She is the best to me. I have also other beloved sopranos. But she was the first. I found her voice is the most beautiful lyric soprano voice I have ever heard. In the later recordings, she provided a darker tone than in her younger days. Young, old, dark, bright ... I simply love her.

Bumbry was never a soprano. She sort of fell between mezzo and soprano and, to her own detriment, thought she was better than she really was. She was obsessed with Verrett and her transitional success and was not an especially well-liked colleague. She never went off the deep end like Battle did, but she flirted with it.
