    Hi Nurse Alyssa, thanks for your complete info on how to prevent scarring. Can you expound why we don't want scabs to form?? if that is the body's natural bandage, why is it not ideal??

    How often should this bactigrass be changed? Does it have an adhesive?

  • @NurseAlyssa39
    @NurseAlyssa3917 сағат бұрын

    May be left in place for 4 days, although most dressing changes are q 2-3 days, it is a nonstick contact layer with an antimicrobial (chlorohexidine). you do need to use a cover dressing over top of this. Any cover dressing is appropriate just ensure it can handle the amount of exudate coming out of the wound.

    I had developed a sudden and unexpected reaction to the posterior side of my shoulder, early in the day the skin was fine, however, by late evening there was an area that was shaped like a triangle with a bordered lining, All the skin on the inside looked like it received a hug dose of the sun because it felt like a really bad burn. I don’t expose my skin to the sum, and when i do I use sunscreen. I’m still shocked as to how quickly my skin changed it became ulcerated, was extremely painful. I had applied antibiotic cream on it prior to it becoming ulcerated. Then I was worried that it might be infected because it was a light yellow secretion that formed a scab. There was no blood, because the skin was not injured prior to this, however, it was extremely painfully for almost 2 days. There is still pain, and I believe that it is cellulitis, but I am glad that I learned that there is serous fluids that is a light yellow, otherwise I’d still be freaking out that its infected. When its not.

    This situation does seem off to me and I would suggest having it looked at by your Dr. Just because it does not have pus coming from the wound, cellulitis will not go away on its own and does require abx. In addition, a random ulcer forming on your shoulder for no reason is concerning.

    It depends on the type of wound to be honest and if it is truly a scab. Chronic wounds are best healed under moist wound healing.

    I sliced my fingertip with a mandolin slicer. It bleeds profusely but doesn't gush. I initially put a cotton ball, wrapped it with a gauze pad and sealed it with a silicone toe shield. It stopped the bleeding but when nighttime came, I knew I had to clean it up and re-dress. However, the newly formed skin cells were adhering to the cotton ball. I wet it to see if it would fall off but I got too impatient. I ended up gently yanking it off and the bleeding continued again. I cleaned it even through it bled again and just wrapped like two gauze pads around my finger. Is the Vaseline for when a scab is formed? What should I do if it bleeds

  • @NurseAlyssa39
    @NurseAlyssa3929 күн бұрын

    You should you a non stick contact layer , and don't get impatient it can take up to 15 mins to self release or it will just keep opening.

    Hi Nurse Alyssa! Thank you for all your content and guidance! I believe I have macerated feet. My heels turn white only when they’re wet. When it’s dried, it appears to look normal but will turn white when they’re wet again. There’s some slight tingling and warmness, too. This occurred about 7 months ago when I wore sockless shoes while working out, and my feet were drenched in sweat.

  • @NurseAlyssa39
    @NurseAlyssa39Ай бұрын

    It sounds like you just have a buildup of dead skin cells on you feet now. Here is what I would do. soak the feet in salt water for 10- 15 mins (or until they just start to get macerated) then use a pumas stone and scrub the feet lightly (be cautions to not go too deep it will cause tissue damage or bleeding) you could also go to a nail salon to have this done. Just lightly scrub the feet untill all that tissue is off. You may need to do this multiple days in a row depending on how deep you go and if you get it all it can be hard to tell when feet are wet but they need to be.
