Rather than learning what one learns when learning to fight, many need to learn what they learn when learning that they can't fight. Also to keep that knowledge throughout ones life and years of training... The Dunning-Kruger effect is likely too strong though.

having too much muscle mass makes me slower in boxing. Some of the skinny guys at the boxing gym are lightning fast. In order for me to keep up with them I'll have to shed a lot of mass. Otherwise I'll keep gassing out and hitting air. The skinny guys with almost zero mass are the best boxers from what I noticed. They have cardio for days, weave and jab faster than anyone else. The bigger guys like me just have power but no speed.

It's not the combat skill that's giving you the confidence and peaceful mind. It was the process that taught you things that are more valuable. And other valuable things that now you know you can achieve by simply undergoing or much better improving the process you used to achieve the combat skill. The capability to sacrifice, discipline, focus, and perseverance. These things realign your perception, thus helping you see that 80% of the things around made by humans are unnecessary and are toxic to you. By knowing so, you immediately set those things aside and have a more clear vision of your path. Especially, when you have found all these great things come from a Creator. This will teach you what ultimate peace of mind is.

Cool video. I have had to start thinking about this because I strength train and things hurt. I like to do both a lot. I like to lift weights regularly but also box regularly (boxing class). My hope is to start sparring and eventually fight should things move that direction or if it makes sense to do so. If it doesn't move that direction, I am ok with it. Doesn't have to be the most competitive fighting stuff either. I know that they have stuff like Master's boxing. I want to see where this stuff takes me. I started learning four years ago - a little older student of the sport.

As an amateur fighter I've sparred multiple professionals and olympic medalists (elite amateurs). The difference between the two is professionals focus on timing and they punch harder. But the main difference is professional boxers determine strategy. They are playmakers and catch you in your own game.

I used to box a bit and loved it, but always really struggled with 2 things. The first was finding a gym that wouldn't just beat the crap out of me early on (I had broken ribs from sparring 3 times in the first year), the second was finding a gym that was willing to spend time training people who weren't specifically intending on having amateur fights. I'd love to get back into it but unfortunately I've yet to find a boxing gym that will spend time training me and also won't keep battering me in sparring before I've even got chance to improve. As anyone who's broken their ribs knows, it pretty much rules out all exercise for around 6 weeks so every time it happened I'd lose a lot of the progress I'd made and then go back to the boxing gym even worse than I was before, meaning I'd struggle even more in sparring, meaning I'd be more likely to get injured again, and it just became a frustrating, self-defeating cycle.

Gained 5 stones from being away from boxing over the years. I only did weight training around 4 times a week, putting on a lot of muscle and fat because I let my diet go. Back into boxing now and the extra weight has drastically reduced my speed. I'm mixing up my boxing with weights but I prioritise my boxing over the weights now. I want to get my stamina and speed back in check
