Welcome to "Diva In The Dirt", my VLOG style journey from being a Canadian/International, Jazz and Blues Singer to Urban Homesteader; with the plan to buy property to create self-sufficiency for me and my family.
I've fallen in love with having backyard chickens, sourdough bread baking, pressure canning & preserving, cheese & butter making, as well as gardening and building!
Am I brand new to homesteading? Yes, I started in 2020.
Do I know what I am doing? I'm beginning to understand, but eager to learn even more.
I hope you will be inspired and join me as as I document my homesteading adventure learning through successes and failures on my small 1/4 acre Urban Homestead (preparing me for the big leagues).

They are lovely. I have quite a few in pots too!
It was such a relief to get the garden in after such cold gloomy spring!
I love these pollinating plants in my garden... functionality and beauty!

What a beautiful memory!
Marine those are the cutest little sachets ever your mom’s gonna love them
Thank you! They will be arriving sometime this week for her!
That is so neat! Thanks for sharing how to harvest lavender. Love the gift bags idea🤗
Thank you Ms. Gail! It was very fun to make them and I’m excited for my Mum to receive them. ❤️
Oh it's a sheet not a pillow case.
Yup!
My husband hates lavender. I don't grow it because of him.
That’s too bad…. But choosing happy hubby over lavender is a good choice!
Hey Maureen. That is totally adorable. And I know the scent is intoxicating. I can’t keep my dang lavender plants alive 😤but one day😊thanks for sharing ❤😊
Oh? I wonder why they don’t want to do better for you? Soil perhaps? They should be fairly easy to grow, especially if you have starter plants.
@@divainthedirt I think I give them too much attention 🤣
THAT could be it!! I’m a neglectful gardener. hahahahahaha
Not a huge fan of lavender…but I am a HUGE fan of you!! I love your realness in your videos! ❤❤
That’s too bad… I kinda over did it as a kid and then couldn’t stand it. Now I love it. Good thing I am fairly unscented… ;) Thank you sweet sister! I sure do love you!
Loved this, such a perfectly peaceful beginning and slow mo of you beating, I mean thrashing the heck out of that lavender.
This was so neat to see how you achieve getting those lavender buds that smell amazing. I would love to go to a lavender farm, with good eating near by and a lovely bed and breakfast.. 😂❤So sweet you made them for your Momma. ❤️Those bags are great!!
Hahahahahah… ya, I guess that part isn’t so calming OR peaceful! Hahahahah
We have some lavender farms here… the visual is amazing! My Mum and SIL should be getting their bags sometime this week! :)
How long does it last?
We store ours in a plastic container and I find we can see last for close to 2 weeks… But I think it would be to the individual… on how they store it and how cold their fridge is.
Hah, love the calm and peace created from the thrashing of the Lavender🤣 You go girl! Wow, it's quite a process. Bet it smells amazing ❤
hahahah I just replied to Carole about the same thing… guess the thrashing wasn’t calming OR peaceful… oops!
Those are just beautiful yay 😁
Thanks!
I'm sneezing from here hahaha. I'm one of those weirdos that's allergic to lavender unfortunately.
Awww too bad!
🤔
I think they make sounds when they grow…. They just have to….
now you going to have me out there listening to my squash lol
🤣🤣🤣
Inquiring minds want to know, beautiful squash
So far, haven’t heard anything yet…. 😉
Healthy veg and fruits. I love your studio.

Thank you! 😊
The gardens are So amazing! What a beautiful gift of love with the organizing of your studio!!!❤
Thanks! it really has turned around fast!
Thanks I have tried the 5 % vinegar and it never worked. I never thought about using high percent and even have some here. Thanks I will be giving it a try.
From another creator she said to use 17%. If yours is 10%, I hope it works. Side note, it’s only been in the last year that I was even aware that vinegar had %’s. 🤣🤣🤣 Who knew???
My husband uses a high % with his blacksmith tool not for sure what percent his is but I sure be checking it out. Thanks so much for getting my brain to even think.
@@dorisinhulsen9510 oooo... so double purpose vinegar at your house!!
so you need at least 17% in my research that I’ve done and I use vinegar to control weeds on the my property
Good to know. Glad mine was in the range. And boy did it ever take them out. Do you use it on your mullein?
I'm with you on not using chemicals. I've never bought them for the yard or garden. That's a great combo and got the job done❤
Yes! Thank you! I am amazed at how quick it worked. I'm not sure how it work with the ones that are in the garden beds. But I'm glad to be stopping some of them at least!
It’s soooo crazy! Love this solution
I’m shocked at how fast and how well it worked!!!
Good luck. Bindweed is awful.
Thanks….. IT REALLY IS!!
Very informative… Thanks for sharing…. Salute!🍃🍃😎
Thank you for stopping by and watching! Just say NO to weeds in the garden! ;) hahahahahaha
Great tip! Thanks!
Thank you! I’m surprised at how well and how fast it worked!
Take those weeds down my Red Wearing Garden ninja friend. Here waiting to see your results. Will have to check to see if we have that brand.
What type of salt did you use, table salt (iodized)? That was amazing!
Yes, just regular iodized salt.
I think if you just make sure you have a vinegar that is 10% or higher it will be just fabulous!
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for stopping by!!!
🎉🎉
Home grown is tasty food!!! <3
Congratulations
Thank you! It always feels good when the harvest starts to come in!
YES nothing like garden fresh
SIMPLY THE BEST!
Smart bird.
Ya it was their owner that showed them where they were! I could've made some jam this year with how many were produced! But, for happy chickens.... <3
@divainthedirt Lol.....Hopefully they will convert berries to eggs so you are getting something out of the deal. May have to protect them in the future because they will be focused like a toddler that discovers how a lock works....need to bring your keys from then on.😁
Wow good conten and nice video
Thank you so much 😀
Nice harvest!
Thanks! it was such a cold spring! I didn't think that things would pick up once the heat hit! Sooo grateful!
Lol
I hadn't started buying my overalls yet... Wedding dress it is!
@@divainthedirt Lol
All of my favourites!! Gorgeous garden haul❤
Thanks so much 😊 Gorgeous 'little' garden haul! hahahahahaha
@@divainthedirt No really!! You are way ahead of me, so my hat is off to you🥰
Happy Belated Birthday. Just had mine last Monday.
Thank you! And belated happy birthday to you too! 🎂
@@divainthedirt thanks Maureen.
@@rodjendrysik3444 you are welcome! I pray you have a fabulous year of blessings on your next tour around the sun!
That's cool Maureen. Had a couple growing up that would sit with me like that.
It was fun whilst it lasted. No one wants to sit on me anymore. 😕 But, they love to be around me and at my feet. ❤️ Their combs and wattles are starting to turn red, so I suspect we are getting close to laying! 🥚
