Responding to your question about giving AI access to students through Gemini--I wouldn't, because I don't think they've been exposed to AI enough to use it responsibly. If this were 2-3 years from now, and students had already been using a tool that provides more scaffolding (along the lines of what MagicSchool is offering), then I could understand broadening AI use as sort of a "next level" because they would've already been introduced to it with more parameters. But right now, with no teacher dashboard or ability to oversee easily at the classroom level, I think it'd be a hard sell to most non-tech teachers.
Big thanks again for walking us through the new stuff again. Every year I do a similar livestream, just for our district. I announced student groups there last year around this time as well. Everyone very happy. Hope it is finally going to happen soon now.
Let's hope these features show up soon! I don't like when they re-announce features rather than just releasing them!
Hi, I am a third-year computer science student pursuing a B.S. in Artificial Intelligence. I have worked as a Coordinator and Trainer at Logiscool Center since February 2024. At the Center, we teach kids from 1st to 12th grade about the digital world and programming. I am passionate about education and plan to take a qualification course after graduating. I have experience leading lectures to students through our Student Council. Now at work, I am developing a course titled "Me and The Digital World Today," aimed at educating people aged 40+ about AI, Generative AI for everyday tasks, design tools, and Google Workspace tools. Given this background, do you think I have enough experience as an educator, to go through the courses and become Google Certified Trainer?
Possibly...the trainer program is focused on Google Workspace tools and products. As part of your trainer application you would need to demonstrate experience training adults on the use of Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet, etc. You can certainly reference your other training experience, but they will want to see a strong emphasis on Workspace training.
@@jrsowash Thank you for the response! I will definitely emphasize Google Workspace in the course. First, I plan to go through the courses to learn new things and then pass them on. I have previously explained these tools to some of my high school teachers, but I am looking forward to learning new things from the courses so I can teach these new insights to my teachers as well. I also plan to explore a few other places where I can train adults.

Yes, FigJam is best for upper elementary and above. For Younger students I would recommend Google slides.

Thanks for your honest evaluation. I just passed both Levels 1 and Levels 2 for the 4th time: 2016, 2018, 2021, 2024. Each time I used the free training programs. I didn't find them boring. I did learn some things. Level 2 training reminded me of Google Lit Trips which I used years ago. I will use Lit Trips this coming year. They have been updated. The tests have definitely been dumbed down. In June 2021 I had to actually use the tools to show competency. Level 2 took the full 3 hours in 2021. This year I finished Level 2 in 1:23. This year both tests were exclusively multiple choice. Some questions were obvious. I like to keep my certification up to date and have it on my email signature. I learned some useful things. I am actually disappointed that it is so dumbed down and just multiple choice.

Hey John, I had this working this morning thanks to your advice.... But now it just wont work, the Chromebook wants to register the switch or PlayStation as an extended monitor. Do you know how to get it to register it as a camera again?
I would restart your Chromebook and try again. You can also take a look at the display settings.
Can you use this method for PS3 console?
Yes, should work with any external device.
How do you play music in the background of your livestream on the Chromebook?
You would need a streaming service like OBS to manage something like that.

my camera turns on. when i try to in real life stream to twitch it shows on the chromebook but on the twitch site it just shows black
I don't believe twitch natively supports Chromebook streaming.

Chromebooks are very different than iPads. For me, the ability to multitask and do everything on the web without the need to update apps is wonderful. You might feel that iPads are a better fit...but not for me!

Also good job this video is extremely simple and straight to the point. I want to game on my Chromebook exclusively. How do I lessen the lag between my controller and the display? Do I need a splitter or a elgato capture card?
You will probably need a higher end splitter and a Chromebook with a more powerful GPU to keep up with the refresh rate.

Click on the time in the bottom right corner of your Chromebook and adjust the audio input to your external device.
Hi John. I tried the transfer content method and only a very small portion of files owned by me were actually transferred. Any thoughts on why this would happen?
There are several reasons this can happen. If your district has file protections enabled, some files may be restricted. Files in shared drives are not transferred. If you have a very large number of files sometimes the transfer process encounters errors. You may need to download files in smaller batches, especially if they are large files.
This was/is my setup minus the HDMI Adapter! I will say it's good for gameplay, but it can/will pixelate often, so beware of that.

Can you edit your sheet after? Or do you have to create a new one? For example, my first one the images did not work correctly so I tried again but nothing changed.
Autocrat won't update a document, but you can create a new one. Just delete the data in the status columns and rerun the merge.

As for the browsing history. Even if your IT department disables a student's ability to clear the history, teachers and student can still access the content that was visited. In the web browser simply type: chrome://history and hit enter.

I found them through a Google image search. Search for "abstract blue gradient background."
Can you go from the individual frame (thumbnail) view to something more like Jamboard where students can progress through the "boards"? In other words, when I click on a frame, I want it to enlarge and look like it did in Jamboard. Thanks in advance for any info. Regards, Lorraine
In which tool? Google slides has a "filmstrip" view and full screen view, like jamboard. Figjam is an infinite canvas...you zoom in to work and zoom out to move.
