So I recall driving all over the foothills going up and down these roads exploring every trail and driveway - hill, saddle or pass. Of course this was back in '73 and I was doing it in my Ford, Torino that had a 302 (cu. in,) and four, 2 ply, glass belts. One time, on a road starkly similar to this one came across this old guy driving an old Ramcharger, pickup. He'd sort of, blocked the road and immediately gotten out and started walking towards me. All I could think is he's some local yokel, senile old hick-ster wanting to know what I was doing driving on "His" road. See I'd just moved out there the year before coming from big town, Detroit, Michigan and guess I still had some of my big city ways. Anyway he could probably tell that from my license plate and he opened by asking me about my "Sporty Ford". Just out of the blue like that. He wanted to know about the engine, the intake manifold, the gear ratios, transmission, gear box, everything. So we got to talking and was telling me how I could really "soop up" my car and was telling me all about his days runnin' on an oval track. There was nothing odd about him, he was just terribly fascinated with cars that go fast. He had a barn full of old cars from the '40s and '50s, and told me about what it was like racing cars - in, The Old Day's. What a coot. Of course I asked him why he lived so far out and not in the city and he told me how he grew up out there, not far from where he was living then. Thinking he was just a Wrench at first, I still wanted to know more about living in the hills and being surrounded by such beauty. It turned out he knew all about that too, but talked mostly about racing up and down all them back roads and getting in trouble with the sheriff, lol.

Good job, Jordan! A friend and I just completed a full-day trip with Switzerland of America this past Saturday, August 27, 2022, and really enjoyed it, although we were both bruised and tired when we got back to Ouray. It was surely worth it. I also enjoyed seeing the big, red Dodge RAM 3500 with the 400+ HP hemi-head sitting at the summit of Imogene Pass. This is the vehicle we made our trip in. It is an excellent vehicle with its longer wheel base, compared to a jeep, for this kind of trip in my opinion. We went from Ouray to Telluride. After lunch in Telluride, we headed south on 550 before taking off over Ophir Pass and Corkscrew before returning to Ouray. We started this trip about 8:45 AM and got back to Ouray about 4:45 PM. Total distance for this route per the truck's odometer was 71 miles. I recommend Switzerland of America, if you want to book a tour. If you have never done this kind of 4-wheel tour over rough roads, I suggest booking a half-day tour first. Just my personal opinion.
