BoardingSchoolsCom

The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS) is the official home of college-prep boarding schools and the definitive guide for students and families.

We serve roughly 300 boarding schools across the United States, Canada, and abroad. Serving as a bridge between schools and students, we actively support the needs of boarding schools themselves, and provide information and insight to families about the benefits of a boarding school environment.

To help families connect with schools, we host www.boardingschools.com. Visit our website to browse school profiles, craft custom-guided online searches by criteria unique to you, and request school catalogs.

It’s a nice campus. But a bunch of pos probably run it. Teachers aren’t qualified enough for what u pay. It’s like a really expensive baby sitter.

Solebury School! I joined for seventh grade in 1956, at a time when the whole school - seventh through twelfth - was only 99 students. Two years before, my brother was a page boy in a theatrical production directed and starring Helen Hayes, whose son James McArthur was a senior that year. Later on, Robert Frost came and read poetry to us, and we all got to meet him and shake his hand. Teachers who were like aunts and uncles, an informal atmosphere that didn't pose a threat or dig painfully into your weaknesses. I thrived in creative writing, art, theatre, all challenges that make up my life today. Wishing all those there - students, teachers, staff - the very best. Kakie Siebel '62.

I went to VES 1970 - 1973. I had Bruce McCormick and John Hight for English teachers. My favorite teacher was Phil Garmey for French. I had Norman Blake for history and glee club and he too was a favorite teacher of mine. I knew Max Meador the Latin teacher and baseball coach. Mr. Moore for algebra was a good teacher of mine in algebra. Also there were other good teachers there. They all were really good people and I remember them all fondly.

I grew up in New Windsor and had friends that were in the New York Military Academy. Back then, it was a fine institution with American values and exceptional leaders running the school. Unfortunately, today it is a empty shell of it's previous glory. The administration today cannot even respond to the question as to why out of all the exceptional speakers they could have invited to be their Graduation Speaker, they chose Sean Patrick Maloney. Maloney remained quiet while Americans were left behind in Afghanistan. America does not leave our men and women behind. Sean tried to change the historic names of the buildings at West Point and thankfully was not successful. Sean also remains silent as deadly fentanyl pours across our open borders and destroys and kills our youth and much much more. So while the United States Military Academy administration seems to have now gone very far left, they have also destroyed a once fine institution of the Hudson Valley. This is a loss for all of us.

For that amount of tuition no way I would send my children to this school with that DEI program, it's outrageous and obnoxious. Once I scrolled down to the Undocumented Student club, that was enough - couldn't take it anymore.

It really depends what schools you are comparing boarding schools to. There are plenty of stellar public schools. They tend to be located in states which pay their teachers higher wages within those districts that have higher property tax revenues to spend on hiring the best. Truth be told, there's very little lecturing happening in the classroom these days - though some is always necessary to lay out certain kinds of content. Imagine a history classroom where the teacher didn't ever explain sequences of transformative events! That would be ridiculously counterproductive, right? In those cases where *some* lecturing is essential, it helps to be an animated storyteller who pauses with a question. In science or math, you can't teach or learn without DOING, but even there, there are times when a teacher simply must pull back and explain. The biggest difference between private boarding schools and public schools is that public schools can't turn students away. Students with a troubled home life, parents who are divorcing, a parent who died young, students with learning disabilities, or poor kids whose families can't afford to provide supplies or healthy food. Those students aren't always disruptive, but it does mean that public school teachers are often trying to meet divergent student needs all at once. Competitive private schools, by contrast, can often select their students for "fit.". If you can afford this for your children, I'm not going to tell you not to pursue it. But you should know the truth. The common sales pitch in this video is slightly misleading. But no teacher would ever want to admit that excluding certain students to create a more focused classroom environment and teaching experience is what makes the difference. It's an ugly truth.

If you want your child exposed to sexual scandals and discriminated against for dyscalculia or any other "learning disability," send them to Bernard. If you want your daughter told she's just a future incubator by abusive female teachers, send her to Bernard. If you want your son to have an illicit affair with a monk, send him to Bernard. If you want your child told they'll never make it into college, send them to Bernard. I am one of the former students from the year of 1995 dramatically pulled from class by DHR/police and questioned about allegations regarding molestation charges. I was a sophomore. I cannot speak to the experiences or allegations of others. But I can speak to the verbal and mental abuse I experienced. The woman who abused girls continued to work at this school until a few years ago. You wanna pretend that what happened in the nineties was "so long ago?" Let this fact sink in: she just recently retired. And if you're one of those lords of shit who believes "long ago" doesn't warrant reporting, reviewing, and holding these creeps accountable, you're not only an idiot and a bigot, you also don't know how to count. I'm still alive. These events didn't happen over a hundred years ago. I'm not alumni but you can bet Bernard probably counts me among their success rates regarding college graduates. I went on to earn a graduate degree, and it had nothing to do with Bernard's scholastic programs. If anything, having to leave high school after my sophomore year because of adults who never should have been around minors made college essential. Now I teach college. I have a Masters in spite of this hellhole, not because of it. But don’t think just because things turned out well for me that your kid will thrive in the face of Catholic school adversity. You’re not making your child better by creating hardship or fake “discipline” for refusing to drink their Kool-Aid. Your kid isn’t me. And I hope you wouldn't want your child to face down what I did. Do him/her a favor - just say no to parochial school.
