    You plan on adding any more videos with the dg8? I bought mine about two months ago this ago, was mainly planning on using it to confirm duct leakage in houses. Only used it a hand full of times, though.

    From this demo, it takes waaaaaay to long to run a load, running around adding walls. No Thanks, measure all the windows, block load and move on. Also, still referring to them as “Master Bedrooms” is a No No. Main Room, Main Bedroom, we don’t have slaves and we are not Masters. Just a pro tip on language as we adjust to our customers.

    Great topic! I have had this exact debate with a few of my peers. I despise "loss leader" sales. It's hard to break what people are used to, as proven by JC Penney years ago. But I've also found that simply being honest and upfront with theirs and our expectations, goes a long way. If you're willing to guarantee what you promise and stand by it, then price is typically not an issue to those that understand and appreciate the service. And of course proving the results makes all the difference.

    I am in agreement. Although my business model is a little different than yours, my service call fee is a little bit higher than a number of other companies out there for the same reason as you mentioned in your video. I'm not trying to get everybody as a customer. Some of the other companies that are charging very low diagnostic fees will not even correctly diagnose the real problems with the system and will be quick to push a whole new system on a person.

    First law of thermodynamics, "There's no such thing as a free lunch", thus you get what you pay for. The HVAC industry has become so predatory and many contractors will use the low introductory service fee to get in the door so they can rip you off. That's what you're competing against. I was in the business for over 30 years and it took me about 5 years to figure out what you said in this video. Unfortunately, when you're just getting started and don't have the reputation yet, you almost have to eat some crow from undesirable customers until you can build a good reputation and customer base. You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but sometimes you can't always pick your customers. Be grateful you've arrived at a place in your business that you can afford to turn away undesirable customers. Congratulations.

    ACCA manual J is correct for a large majority of the population about what they call so-called comfort window. But then there’s a large majority of the population who is on the other two sides of the comfort zone Who finds 75° uninhabitable. The only time I felt 75° was comfortable and my son is the exact same as me is when we were in Arizona in the summertime and humidity was 8%. Because neither of my son or myself have ever been in 8% humidity, we both were surprised and very delighted to find out. We can actually be comfortable at 75°F.. but it had to be 8% humidity. Even in low humidity for myself and a few others like us 75° is extremely hot and we sweat like pigs if we do any movement at all. Even in low humidity out here in California San Francisco .

    Thanks for this video Tim! I was looking at a Coolcalc load I ran and noticed it gave me a humidification GPD number to maintain my desired rH selection. My question was; “is really an accurate thing, does Man J really assist in humidifier selection?.” Answer, yes it does! 🙌 Pretty dang sweet! Especially for this particular one because I blower door tested this home too, so more accurate. 👏 Thank you again so much for making this video. It’s hard to find good resources sometimes.

    Agree 100% Since I started in the trade 23 years ago, it has been this way at every company I've worked at. I started in installation. Still do them now from time to time. I would add, not only is it inconvenient to the home owner when the guys work that late; it's also a huge inconvenience to the installers families. They all deserve better! From the client, to the installers and the installers families. We have to do better. #BetterHVAC

    For newbies, one word of warning, specially, with cheap nitrogen regulators, even sometimes good ones Diaphragms and spring adjusters were never meant to be accurate at such low flow rates, and during the middle of your abrasion, occasionally the diaphragm will move all by itself, and either cease the flow of nitrogen in the middle of your brace or it’ll open up a little bit more and a little bit of excessive pressure Nitrogen pressure in the pipe because it cannot release fast enough to the valve core opening, pushing against your brazing, making a hole or a push through into silver liquid brazing rod with the excessive pressure These large high-pressure nitrogen regulators were designed to work at greater pressures . And that small little one extra step of adding the flow regulator is designed for my small pressures and flow rates that are precise and will not turn off or during the middle of your procedure Just a cautionary note to pay attention to to see if your particular regulator is extremely sensitive that can change all by itself in the middle of your operation like turning off the nitrogen One method you have an extremely low flow of nitrogen tap the back of your regulator diaphragm with your wrench or screwdriver and just a little bit . And all of a sudden, your nitrogen pressure pop up giving you too much flow or completely shut off then you know you have a regulator that cannot be used for this particular situation . Second note, very sensitive parts of your skin for testing extremely small flow of nitrogen is the skin on your upper lip below your nose coming out of your hose or the skin just under your eye around your face extremely small flows of air . Of course you would not be trying to adjust airflow with your eye stuck towards the opening that could possibly jet out high-pressure and blind. You have to say that because I know common sense is not common anymore.

    The change in humidity on the humidity ratio axis on the right of psychrometric chart gives the evaporation by multiplying with latent heat in X Joule / kg On the left on enthalpy axis these two points give total enthalpy change dH in Joule/kg. dH is sum of latent and sensible heat (dH - X) = Sensible heat in Joule/ kg

    My father taught me when I was 12 years old to use nitrogen and that was 46 years ago. When my father was a young man in his 20s, he was talk to use nitrogen by two of his older mentors . So this information got lost over the decades and did not spread around is still a big mystery. More people say they never heard about it then heard about it . I wonder what they identify as 🤣for the ones in denial . 🤦‍♂️ But we always can rely on their work to provide us with lots more plugged expansion valves, cap tubes, and roasted compressors . Because these are the same guys who do not believe in complete vacuum that we get the copper plated bearings from. So we have to give a two thumbs up 👍 👍 To all the good old boys . Named Billy Bob Butt Crack with their family tree stemming DNA 🧬 down from the Whitaker family.. (“ look up the Whitaker family on Google”) And you’ll see who those guys are who don’t believe in nitrogen .

I'm the unofficial hvac service manager (also serviceman,installer and part time scheduler) for a sheet metal installation company and I've been working on streamlining service procedures with Measurequick, etc. I'm just wondering how you charge for a service like this. Do you have a flat rate for the basic job or do you bill hourly?

  • @timdestasiohvac
    @timdestasiohvac2 ай бұрын

    I charge for about 1.5 hours per system. Here in heat pump country we can do one yearly service, not 2. Gas may take longer since I would do combustion analysis as well either on this trip or a separate one. But when you think about it, if a service contract is $25/ month, it works out to around $200/ hour. Not a bad rate for maintenance.
