You would be surprized how often this happens, or the terminal isn't fully seated or just bent over. Test leads are a must for vehicles now days to test drag. Sometimes the plastic can provide a false drag reading. We are even seeing fuses not fully seated in the fuse box. I don't know if ford can get terminals/ terminated leads. GM does. They have moved towards terminated leads because some techs had problems crimping terminals properly. I save harnesses and cut off connectors that way i can repair as needed. Connector Experts is a great source as well.

Hi there, I have the same problem, I just wanted to ask you if this is the procedure to fix the problem 1. Put the car into brake maintance mode, 2. Take of the actuator and disconect it of the conector 3. Turn the litle spindle on the caliper clockwise to pull the piston all the way back 4. Take the car out of brake maintenance mode until the actuator is removed and disconected 5. Conect the actuator to the conector but dont put it back to the caliper, 6. Put the car in maintenance mode so that the actuator spins freely till fully open, 7. Put the actuator back on the caliper and take the car out of brake maintance mode, 8. Erase the errors on the OBD and see if the parking brake work properly.

Ivan, you should start a school for dealer techs to teach them proper diagnostics so that fewer people get the parts cannon fired at their broken vehicles, costing them to much money and time.

I know that in my Holden VY SS Commodore I had to investigate a hard starting condition & the fuel pressure was dropping off straight after the fuel pump prime signal switched off the fuel pump relay after I turned the ignition switch to the on position. The in tank fuel pump & sender unit has one of those PR217 type of GM fuel pressure regulators which I fitted & I ran the fuel pump & sender unit in a bucket of fuel to find out that the diaphragm had ruptured & it was spitting fuel out through the where the vacuum hose would normally connect to on an externally mounted fuel pressure regulator setup. The fix was to replace the fuel pressure regulator,as simple as that !

Dropping the tank is way harder than lifting the bed with an engine crane. Super lazy version is to cut a hole in the bed to access the pump hat then patch it after.

I recently had something similar happen with a fuel pump on a 92 Cavalier. Car quit going down the road. Crank, no start. You could hear the fuel pump prime when turning on the key but it sounded like fuel was hitting the side of the tank. I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and had no pressure. I dropped the tank and pulled the pump and was expecting a hose to be off or something but could not see anything wrong with the pump. I installed a new pump and it fixed the problem.

I was able to use a scanner I already had, a Foxwell NT 510 Elite to get the wastegate readings and zero it out. Took me about an hour of fooling around a bit but in the end it got set to within the desired tolerance. I got the one specifically for BMW cars and it was $189, I used it for a 2006 Z4 previously when I changed out the auto trans fluid (needed to get the trans temp). Great video, once again, thanks for showing us how it was done, I did find other info but this one was first and I was confident after watching this I could get this resolved (assuming the flap was not damaged or loose internally on the turbo). My recommendation: don't tighten the nuts until you run the process enough times and get it zeroed out. I used small increments of turning the nuts until the scanner showed me it was within tolerance. First time, I went the wrong way. Second time I overshot, third time I was close, 4'th time I was right on. I can say that the electronic actuator is very picky and it does not normally take more than 1/2 to 3/4 turn of the nut to throw it out of tolerance.

The connector is made out of tin foil, lol. Very curious how much time you billed for, not as a judgement on you, rather as a reality check of what it takes these days to actually chase down the fault and do the repair . Cheers.

Could you use a scan tool or injector activation tool with a fuel gauge hooked up to diagnose the Mini? I know your way is faster but just thinking what I used to do back in the day to figure out a clogged injector problem.

Two very objective (and quick) diagnostics, Ivan! The pintle hump is extremely informative, but a scope is mandatory! Alternative: blindly throw an injector at it and pray 🙂 (mini parts canon).

Thank you for answering a question that has been kicking around in my head for 20 years. @25:17 , just disconnect the gnd bat cable so the PCM has no ground. BTW a woman went to the dealership to have a seat belt buckle installed. After she agreed to have the car looked over they sent her away with a $10k repair estimate. Later she arrived at my friend's place, he put 3.5 quarts of motor oil into her Honda. He couldn't understand how they could have sent her away 3.5 quarts low. I couldn't understand why she never checked her oil. Wah wah.

One other thing I'd check before dropping the tank, close off the return pressure fuel line and see if the pressure goes up. If it has one. Some use a PWM pump to regulate pressure and some have a regulator.

I think that in addition to the key shape in the Mini that tone generator for the warnings is just sooooo entertaining. While you were explaining the issue with the Mini I could hear it in the background. As for the Chevrolet truck, we had an issue many years ago that was similar. 1983 Ford Country Squire wagon had a bad miss at wide open throttle. We tried everything to diagnose the issue to no avail. 1983 was the first year for Central Fuel Injection on full-sized Fords; an electric fuel pump was in the tank. We dropped the tank and pulled the fuel pump out. Submerged the fuel pump in water and discovered a rubber hose between the pump and the connection to the fuel line inside the tank had split and fuel was spraying out the crack in the hose. We repaired the hose and the car ran fine after that. It sounds like you had diagnosed that on the Chevrolet. GREAT VIDEO!
