“Friends of the Ukrainian Heritage Pavilion Society” was formed under UCC-Edmonton branch to organize the Ukrainian Heritage Pavilion at the annual Heritage Festival in Edmonton, Canada
Via this amazing project we are promoting our rich culture, heroic history and delicious cuisine as well as uniting different generations of Ukrainians in our community.

1896 from galica. my family was part of the first large group of Ukrainians that came to Canada. They had a Scarlett fever outbreak that killed nearly all the children. The entire story is full of tragedy, including the fact that they arrived too late in the year and nearly froze to death. But they had escaped being illiterate slaves to the polish and Hungarian empire and were offered a chance to own land and create a life. Our people are incredibly tough.

I was adopted in 1970. I reached out to find my birth parents in Dec 2020. On May 13, 2021 I received my adoption papers and found out I was Ukrainian! My wife is Ukrainian and she was thrilled. I was with my birth mother in Vegreville, Alberta yesterday. I also visited the Ukrainian Village just west of Vegreville, AB today. Привіт побратимам українців. My birth last name is Chillibecki!

My great grand parents where part of the first wave. They moved to Nelson BC around 1905. I wish I could find out more about family back in what was Galicia.
They would of participated in the Canadian census, but the records from that time in Galicia were probably not kept at all, destroyed, lost, or damaged. Some remain, but I can definitely understand this need for family knowledge and disappointment of resources. Ancestry has been very insightful for me, mostly because my family didn't talk a lot about the past and as a child I really didn't care. Now I am able to put the pieces together, but before 1900 is hard to find accurate information, and also it would be written in Ukrainian and likely kept at local churches.
@@denniswoycheshen Did you find the ship records when your family arrived ? I found mine they came in 1927 and 1928 at least I found the relative back in UKraine his name and address ( town ) I also found some on Ancestry and a comment there I found her in Edmonton on Facebook but no contact as messaged her but she did not see it yet as we are not friends and she probably does not know it is waiting there
Величезна вдячність всім волонтерам, які працювали в кухні. Під шатром біля плити, BBQ чи столу з підігрівом температура піднімалася до+38 С! Єдина можливість трошки освіжитися то було збігати в холодильник по сметану.
