These are what a asphalt modified should look like and be not that wheelen nascar or touring type mods. These are true raw modifieds that every body is different and has characteristics way different then each others bodies and every buolder or owner of these cars bulds the bodies different with little tricks and designs that they have come up with fron testing and trial and eeror to get the body to work the best you can in the air to give you the most downforce less drag more side forces ect. Especially the left side doors and quarters on hige tracks that are half miles and bigger you can bow the pannels inwards to catch the air like a parachute in corners and it acts like one of those giant tall billboard outlaw latemodels you see that have the tall clear boards well you cna make the bodies on these act like that depending on how you shape them and how tall you can make them to get the most side force as possible in the corners. Theres also things you can do with the decking inside the car to get the most down force and possible by putting rake into it and it slighlty has a angle going up hill like a very large long and wide spoiler and helps to get air directed jn the right position to hit the spoiler in the right spots. Your a pillars and sail pannels or b pillars alsk can play a roll in areo same with the corners of the wheel well cut outs and ect. There is a whole artical that kyle strickler wrote about windtun el testing and the aerodynamics and things you can do to modifieds bodies to get the best aero possible. Even though its about a dirt modified it all can still relate and be done body wise on a asphalt mod. I have a good friend who races the modifieds of mayhem tour, and we have done lots pf tedting and trying new ideas with the body and angles and curves to get the most out of it while still being within the body rules. And just by making slight changes to the body qe have seen the car pick up a few tenths every time and have learned that we can pull on certain parts of the body thats on flat sprig steel and 1*1 inch aluminum angle on the body pannels and can pull int or pull out certain spots to help the car if its lose or tight in the corners with out messing sith the cross, rear bite, and ect. We have made the car go fron extremely tight to way loser imjjst by moving certain parts of the body in or out at huge halfmiles. I use to race pro trucks on asphalt and broke my back and dr said if i ever race again and get in a har md wrexk there is a 85 percent chance of me being paralyzed from helly button down due to the damsge already dont to my spinal cord. But he has let me drive the car when he rents the track and go testing so i can get rid of that itch to go racing since i help me and work my tail off on thst car for him to be able to run up front. We went and raced the first asphalt bristol short track nationals on modifieds and finished 5th he did with a smaller motor but he was able to hold the throttle wide open all the way around cause we got the body working and the handelibg spot on where he coild hold it wide open. Bristol is like a super speedway for these cars drafting and all comes into play. Even the biggest track we go race at he cant hold it aode open even though one is slightly bigger then bristol and only 3 degrees less banking. Bristol is a beast for short track cars lile mods, latemodels, sprintcars, street stocks

I wish I could have raced in this years short track nationals in my new asphalt modified, I ran a latemodel stock last time and had a blast it's faster then the biggest half mile we race on all the time and that track is extremely fast but Bristol at full speed makes that track and every others look slow and like a small 1/4 mile oval speed wise. I would have loved to run my modified here this year speeds are fast as hell as always and lots of side by side racing and no room for error with a bunch of really great drivers

A shame it overheated in the end, but this is what I love to see. Driver, taking care of equipment, running clean, passing when there is good opportunity. An excellently run race, a shame it ended early.
