    I shoot 1/2 and 3/4 chokes from 16 yard line using 1150 fps cartridges. Would you reccomend tightening up the chokes to 3/4 and full and a faster fps ammo to shoot off higher handicaps?

  • @DeanBlanchard
    @DeanBlanchard2 күн бұрын

    Past 25 yards I recommend full choke. As far as speed. 1150 will break the targets as long as you are confident. Most shooters I know shoot a faster shell.

    This is either a parody video or what not to do. You haven’t shot a registered target, not a certified instructor and obviously have no idea how to actual shoot skeet. Nor could you ever shoot doubles worth a damn.

    Can’t imagine why anyone who owns a shooting vest for 6 months washes it 15 times. I be had my same vest for 15yrs use it 3 times plus per week and because I wear it over a shirt I’ve yet to wash it and it still looks like new. To each their own.

    Does anyone know the actual angle relative to the shooter of hard- and quarter-angle targets from posts 1 and 5? Thanks.

  • @DeanBlanchard
    @DeanBlanchard25 күн бұрын

    I am sure someone might have figured it out. However not all trap fields are set to regulation. From station 3 I believe the targets can go 44 degrees total from the hard right or left. That would make more of an angle on station 1 and 5. Another factor is wind. Wind can push the target creating more or less of an angle depending on the wind. You are overthinking it.

  • @randallkadish5663
    @randallkadish566322 күн бұрын

    @@DeanBlanchard Jeff Meloy told me that NORMAL hard-angle targets from posts 1 and 5 fly at an angle of 38.5 degrees, assuming that - the way we are measuring - a straightaway is 0 degrees.

    Then you'll get that low, hard right and your going to be chasing that target to hell and back because it was blocked from view by your barrell. This may work better on sporting clays where you have a set target line. That all changes with a trap setup with the wobble turned on. Just my 2 cents worth.

  • @DeanBlanchard
    @DeanBlanchardАй бұрын

    The main concept is to set up to see the target early and to minimize gun movement. You would have a lot more movement shooting wobble trap. Thanks for the comment.

  • @daboo7725
    @daboo7725Ай бұрын

    @DeanBlanchard I completely understand the concept of minimizing gun movement. Some people take everything they see on the net to heart, and all of the sudden your the bad guy because your tip didn't work in the scenario they were shooting in. Just an observation. Thanks for the video.

    Really like your understanding that not all peoples eyes work the same and the visual point is specific to the individual. My eyes focus slower than most, so having a soft focus a little further from the window helps me see the target more clearly before it gets past my hold point.

    Great explanation of eye dominance and why it’s important. Dean I am going to introduce my 15 yo grandson to trapshooting. He up to this point has only shot air rifles. He is right handed, left eye dominant. He is very athletic so I am wondering if I should start him shooting left handed? My only concern with doing this is he lives out of state and will only get to shoot when he visits so he won’t get to practice very often. I’m hoping he likes it because he has a gun club only a couple of miles from his house where he could shoot more. Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Terry

    Excellent! Minimal gun movement. Another example is a long tower-based crosser staring way out of gun range and gradually getting closer. Or a shot at an incoming target from a bridge where the target is 25 yards below the shooter.

    Good video and instruction. As you said, everyone is different. Noted your hold point...much further out than mine which is about parallel with the house. I am a 62 yr old skeet shooter. I like a better connection to the target so like to hold closer but am a AA shooter.

    Make sure the gun has extended forcing cones. Make sure the pitch of the gun is correct for your body. You can add weight by adding a mercury suppressor to the inside of your stock. Have a decent recoil pad, not just a butt plate. You can also get a Simms Limb Savor boot (get size large) to add to the end of the stock. Make sure you are pulling in the gun firmly. If loose, the gun will beat you up. It's like a nice hug, not a death grip. Make sure your stance is correct. Weight to the forward side. Both knees unlocked (slight bend) Have at least 10% or more weight on that front foot.

    Excellent! What really helped me was to visit the sporting clay range and shoot solo as singles. I shoot until I can hit the particular target 5 times in a row. If it takes, a box of shells I will shoot the 25 shots at the same target. Although I usually shoot singles as a solo shooter, sometime I have a 2 second delay to simulate report pairs.

    Great video! In my opinion, inside the stock, the better or maybe more expensive recoil reduction systems should move the compressive movement part "before" the cheek pad, so that your cheek will not get beaten that hard. For example, Precision Fit Stocks, Beretta A400 Kick_Off Mega and TSK recoil reducer.

    If you reload your own ammo you can load the 12 gauge as light as 3/4 ounce and 1100 to 1200 fps. In an 8 lbs. 12 gauge the 3/4 ounce loads feel very light but I would suggest going 1 to 2 steps tighter with your chokes. Naturally neither the 7/8 or 3/4 ounce loads will prove reliable in an unmodified semi auto but they are a treat in an O/U or Pump.
