I don't get that ikea hack stuff. I tried it here at home to use an ikea cabinet and make it as a built in. All the hassle to adjust the cabinet, the bad quality panels and sticker like veneer. In the end it took me longer to adjust everything and figure things out to make it look good then create it from scratch with good quality panels. And the price would be practically the same, for better quality. Since you don't have the cost of a builder. Your outside looks good but the inside screams DIY all over. Ordering the custom cut panels for all sides, for 3 identical cabinets would've looked so much better from the inside and would have been easier and faster to install. I tried the "ikea hack" once and I will never try it again. 😅

Love this! It’s nearly the same measurements as our kitchen so I appreciate seeing how we could reno it similarly! Can you please share how your corner cabinet by the dishwasher works? Does it have something that pulls out? Thank you!

I’d say the dishwasher location isn’t ideal but there wasn’t another option/would have to run new plumbing etc. the corner cabinet is just shelves but you could install something that pulls out if you wanted! I believe rev a shelf sells something for this

Hi Emma, i am looking to do the same project and also looking to simplify as i am alone when it comes to DYI. Do you think i should use ikea kitchen cabinet feet instead of making a wooden bas like you did? I live in a old house with uneven flooring and thought i could level my cupboard up using the twisting method then stick a base board at the end of the project! 😅
@EmmaCourtneyHome7 ай бұрын
Hi Augustine, you could do this but it won’t be as easy to attach baseboard. Part of the reason why I love doing a 2x4 base is the ease of attaching baseboard after! I also think the 2x4 base might be cheaper than the legs? But both work!

Thank you so much for your video and blog post! We are going to start this project soon but we have an issue. The 60 inch doors do not fit to our ceiling. The total height from floor to ceiling where the doors go in front of the cabinets is 74 inches. Assuming the 2x4 takes up 4 inches, we are left with 10 inches from the top of the door to the sloped ceiling. Do you have any suggestions for what to do about that?
@EmmaCourtneyHome7 ай бұрын
Have you checked to see if any pax doors might work? I think the height might but unsure about the width coordinating with the cabinets that you need for your space. Alternatively I might try to see if Home Depot and other stores have a door that might work in their off the shelf kitchens? Another idea I would try is see if I could put a piece of trim/wood to fill the 10” gap but that’s pretty large so I hope the previous ideas might work.
@burnzy34347 ай бұрын
@@EmmaCourtneyHome So we could use the Pax doors if we put two 2x4s in between the 36 inch wide cabinets to make the 39 inches that two pax doors combine to make width wise. But then we would have to attach hinges on the 2x4 facing forward as opposed to hinges inside on the side of the cabinet. Have you ever used hinges that you place on the outside of a cabinet?
@EmmaCourtneyHome7 ай бұрын
Hmm I don’t have experience with that! I’m sorry!! I’d try to check other options like Home Depot and maybe that will work?

Try buying quarter round, and flipping it so it’s above your baseboard and 1 flat side touches the wall above the baseboard and the other flat side will be the bottom of the board and batten! Hope this makes sense … it should make it look like an extension of the baseboard

A few different ways such as using equations… but in the initial planning stage we just measured the height from the floor (at the wall) to the ceiling, and then measured how deep we wanted it, and then from the floor to the ceiling in that spot as well
