Was taken by surprise when they mentioned the pandemic, I figured all of Ryfle and Godziszewski's commentaries were made years ago

The H-man commentary was a new one. Most other ones were years ago. Besides maybe the one they did for Gamera 3.

Many thanks - the Eureka/MOC release costs upwards of $50.00 and much as I enjoy Kalat's work, I'm not up for spending that much to hear it.

Just checked and it was $80 on Amazon. It was about $40 when I bought it.

couldn't help but notice how much of this is lifted from the GTTHM commentary.

I think there are two reasons. 1. Generally, putting these films and their creation into a larger historical context will result in overlap when talking about films that both were so close and feature so much production overlap like Mothra and Ghidorah. 2. Since the Classic Media DVDs are out of print and that commentary has not been pulled forward onto any new releases...he may have concerns about it being lost and that effort almost "going to waste" with modern audiences...so he feels a need to bring certain chunks of information to other films. Ideally....Criterion will one day do a massive Box Set...or even multiple Box Sets...where every film is blessed with a commentary. Perhaps they will record new commentaries or be able to edit and adjust all of the commentaries to have as little overlap as possible.
