  I have a patch of bamboo in the backyard of a house I just bought. Was my understanding you couldn't chip the stuff.. Looks to me you can if you have a large industrial chipper and the bamboo is still green and retaining moisture.

  where can i get a chipper like that to mulch my vegetation? is there a harvester that can do selective cutting of the bamboo trunks, as i don't want to take out the whole clump? thanks for sharing video

  Canberra looks to get a little too cold for the liking of this one. It doesnt like winter below -4. There is another very similar and equally beautiful clumping bamboo called Bambusa Chungii that would probably do alright there. It can handle the cooler winters. Down to about -6. A bullet proof bamboo that is still gorgeous for your area would be seabreeze (bambusa malengensis) if you have a larger lot. In a smaller suburban backyard you cant go wrong with textillis gracillis ( slender weavers bamboo). Hope this helps.

  Funny thing about bamboo root balls. They are still alive even after the main canes are cut, and if treated with care, will regrow. They can be easily transplanted this way.
