Loooove it, thanks!
@@Blue-wg7wo thanks for watching 👌😎👍
Sorry about your friends close call, ive seen a lot of rescue helicopters at Dow crag more than the Old Man. I think it lulls people into security but its clearly not safe.
@@broceliandeforest7420 thanks for your comment. Fortunately we were all ok. We were prepared enough. But yes. There's some serious ground there for sure.....all the best
Omg, what beauty you see on top of the world. I can barely climb my stairs. Thank you for sharing ❤
@@sharonhiggins410 thanks for the comment it was a wonderful trip. Obviously it's better if you watch the game full film on a big screen. Have a wonderful day
Slab and notch looks something else mind 😮. Wish I had the balls to do it. Is it really hard John?
@@danh2310 thanks for the comment.... It's a great route. Awesome rock. But VERY airy. I'd not been there for many years, and got up it fine with my pack. But definitely would have struggled if it got wet.
I’m hoping to camp there this year
Cool! Are you having fun? I might be going to snowdonia aswell!
Have fun!
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
Great video mate, you're a lot braver than me I'm a "cauld arse" and a fair weather camper 😅 atb 🥂
Thanks 😂. I get that. But love it
Superb
Thanks for the comment. Very kind 👍👍👍
I've been up great Gable. I never saw the rock that has a profile of a face before! Does it have a name?
Sphinx. ( Or Cat rock. From another angle but the tail has now fallen off 🤣)! Google Great Gable Sphinx. It's on the climbers traverse. A path with some scrambling
Click the link on the short to my film. It's Sphinx rock.....on climbers traverse.
@MountainManJohnFilms sounds great will do cheers 👍
Looks a fantastic location quite spot in a busy national park thanks I will check it out nice video again
Yup. That area has lots of places that are pretty quiet if you stay away from Angle Tarn. ..... Wanted to try this for ages since I spotted it. 👍. Thanks for the comment
Nice chilled out video John👌🏻. Reminded me that I’ve actually done that route as a walk back it 2016. ATB 👍
Cheers Dave. The Mrs said ....all you do is talk 🤣. Appreciated, just a normal camp but a nice one. 👍
Ps. Got to catch up on yours but not till I'm home from Greece. I need to watch on the big screen 😎
@@MountainManJohnFilms haha. Enjoy Greece, pal. Too bloody hot for me 🔥🥵😁
Nice views. Lovely camp.
Thanks Linda. Yup. It was a nice simple camp ,unlike most of mine......thanks for the comment. Subd 😎👍
@@MountainManJohnFilms thanks. Haven't been up in the mountains for a year after breaking my ankle. Hopefully in August :)
Nice video. Looked little a little steep pull before stony cove doo daa what ya call it. never been on those hills. Cracking spot for a pitch. The cloud looked nice and straight cool when that happens. Nice spot
Thanks for watching 🤣🤣. Yeh a real nice little spot. Pretty easy to get to. The bit up at the end of the valley was easy. More than ot looked .....so much in that area. No drama like Ridges or scrambles but a ice area that's quiet 👍
Hi John. Lovely vid and great camp. We did a couple of walks in that area recently. Those lumps in Pasture Bottom are actually glacial moraines and not spoil heaps. I know what you mean about common sense though, and if more people used it while out on the fells there maybe wouldn’t be so much need for signs and Mountain Rescue call-outs 🤔 I wondered if you’d fancy meeting up for a “colab camp” in the summer. You’re obviously not from “up norf”, so don’t know how often you get here. I fancy Lambfoot Dub, which I think I’ve watched you camp at - fancy it again? You’re obviously a far more experienced wild camper than me and would be great to get some tips off you. Especially on weight reduction! Keep up the good work. Charlie & Tony.
Thanks Tony. Yup I'd be up for a camp. But as you say, although I've done a few, I'm very hit and miss and often last minute ( I work shifts so grab week camp when it fits) ...as for weight. I just don't take too much extra. My gear isn't super lightweight. About 12/14 kg maybe. . . . Should have checked on the mounds but I'm shocked. They look so conical. . .
Will be here before you know it 😂
Happy to have a summer first 😂
@@MountainManJohnFilms looks like me might have 5 days of it and then we are done for the year 😂👌🏼
2:20 you want your helmet on there! lots of loose stones and lots of beginners on that route which = stonefall
I had it on. Just that moment as I filmed the cam was on the helmet 😎👍 don't worry I was standing well back. And only my mate on the route
Looks a great place to Pitch John! Thanks for the advice earlier 👌🏼 liked & subbed
If for some reason it had occupation. You can go past it and there's loads of spots further up.... Thanks 👍
Langdale is such a stunning place
Brilliant I have done loads of scramble s in Ogwen Valley (Steve Ashtons book )one of my favourite places another cracking video cheers Butty
Much appreciated. Yup, I love the area. So many options. Fun to repeat. Wasn't even sure what I'd got on cam but turned out ok......... 👍. Appreciate the comment.
@@MountainManJohnFilms no that was great I have had lots of scary moments up there but always great fun and I have put up with the north Wales people being from south wales lol
13:30 is the crux corner - harder than it looks!
Yes mate. It's quite a good route. Keeps you engaged. Superb weather on that rock makes it easier for sure. . . . . Thanks for watching
Great scramble John. I’m hoping to be near there later in the summer: going up Tryfan. I believe the north ridge is “easier” and my dog should be OK. You any advice for us?
Thanks Tony. Yes the North ridge is a great route you can make as hard as you like. I've seen dogs on it but it definitely depends on the dog and you may need to assist. The path up from the col before Bristly ridge is easier , but still a rough scramble path. Tryfan is an awesome mini mountain. Very busy but worth it. See if there's a good North ridge film to sway your opinion either way 👍
@@MountainManJohnFilmsCheers John. I’ll have a look. Charlie’s very agile and has put me to shame on things like Hall’s Fell Ridge & Swirral Edge. We’re doing Striding in a couple of weeks, then also, hopefully, CMD Arête in the summer too.
@@TonysTrails awesome. I need to get back to the CMD it's sensational 👍
@@MountainManJohnFilms It looks it John. Looking forward to it. We’re getting a bit more adventurous this year, as also got Lord’s Rake & West Wall Traverse planned for the end of the month.
@@TonysTrails you have some classic stuff planned. All are great. Do you watch Scotland's Mountains ( Murray ) he's done some great films of the CMD but maybe all wintery not sure... anyhow. Look forward to seeing your adventures. Definitely some great plans
Beautiful spot👌👍
Great video, looked like a great spot for a camp.
Thanks Stuart. Yup it was a nice spot. Only flat bit about and right by the summit. 👍
Gorgeous spot 👌
Nice one pal. Reminiscing great times with old friends; priceless 🙏🏻. I checked out that pitch but didn’t fancy it in the Duomid. ATB 👍
Yes I saw that. In some ways it could be better. But was thinking more about an easy approach for my mate 🤣..... Done that area for a bit 👍........ probably
"Arrive late and leave early" guideline doesn't matter to you two?
Yup. It does Richard. The times we stated were well after we were packed. But it also depends on location. We saw nobody till we left. We had breakfast and started packing tents at 7..30. I guess it depends on how early is early. And your take on it. Admittedly I'm normally away early. But on this occasion we were out of the way and I had no problem with it, so we took our time and sat about. There's no set time, it's about respect for others. And on this occasion I saw no problem. I'm a responsible Wild Camper. I park and Pay, I have no fires, and keep out of the way. Thanks for your concern, I can tell your a lover of the Lakes. So am I.
@MountainManJohnFilms apologies for my arsy question, but the Lakes is getting bombarded by "wild campers" creating campsites. Like you said, the guidelines are subjective so common sense should be used in these cases. When I summit camp, I do so solo to have less impact. Each summit is different of course. A peak like Kidsty Pike should be camped more responsibly than let say a large domed topped one like Pillar.
@@richardjennings2708 It's cool. I understood where you were coming from. If you see any other of my wild camps I'm usually alone. But always high and discreet. I support your thinking. Unfortunately the wild campers your talking about are generally not actually keen wild campers. Just people on a jolly. I appreciate your interest in spreading understanding. I know some don't appreciate films either. But I'm sharing my experiences, and hopefully the love of the hills...I absolutely think most of it is lack of knowledge and awareness. 👍
@@MountainManJohnFilms fantastic response mate, and apologies again for being arsy. I've been proper stressed out recently from idiots on social media, and I'm not realising that I'm becoming one myself.
Nice video I have been to the Lakes a few times but not there so I will put it on my list to do cheers
Thanks for the comment. It's a great area with plenty of variations. And it's often very quiet. Did a recent film on Rampshill Head. But also High Street, Place Fell and Angletarn Pikes are in my playlist 👍😜 definitely an area worth exploring
Nice I like the clouds but sciatica stops me
I've a bad back but I definitely find the hike helps. Thanks for watching 😁. Full film is out 👍
Looks great 👍
Cheers Jamie. Just going to get to the footage see how it looks. Love the area, Kidsty Pike gives a great view of High Street etc.
heading up this route for first time next week. Helpful video and tips. Cheers
Thanks 👍. It's great to get feedback that the films are useful!. I've still one to do on Dow. The Easy gully grade 3 scramble. . . . . Hope you enjoy.
😂 Cool👏👏💪👌
Great short👍 Beautiful mountain
Thanks mate. The attached film is my first time there. Loved it........ 👍
Excellent video. You had a perfect day for it. Beautiful views. Good drone filming. I go up often, I had crazy weather in March, I reached the top and there was only me there. It was crazy 😁 I'll have a look at a few more of your vids now.👍
Thanks very much. It was a different one for me I don't often film just a hike...but I loved the round....thanks again.
@MountainManJohnFilms I was up that way a few days again, near Fan y Big ( F is V) There's a crash site there. Loads of the plane left from the 1940s. It's last video I did, I think I put it up Saturday. Worth a look, if ever you are back again you'll know where it is. It's nicer than Pen y Fan. Warefalls there too.👍
@@JamieHarding5 yes sorry about the childish giggle on the name!😎.....subd and will look later 👍
@MountainManJohnFilms I laugh at it all the time myself 😂 I did Lord Hereford's Knob recently that cracked me up too. I'll follow your journey. I watch the vids.😉👍
Where is this?
Click the link on the bottom...it's from my last film. Wales. Pen y Fan
Cracking video
Thanks so much . I wasn't happy with it. But it's a wonderful place. Hope I captured it. I've done better videos 😀. 👌.... Appreciate your comment 👍
Just subd. I did Askival on Rum, a film a few years back.....loved it. I'll take a look later!
Yes I watched your video it was really good watched it before I went to Rum unfortunately weather wasn’t brilliant and it was windy but some good scrambling there it’s a fantastic island
@@andrewkingdom that's the thing. Like Skye, such great places but the weather you gotta be lucky. I'm wanting to get up there again. Maybe Arran or Skye again....... Keep it up 💪😀
I recommend Jura as well if you’ve not been awesome the paps are very steep cracking hotel there too with great beer called Laughing Stag keep the videos coming I always enjoy them
Very nice 👏
Your very kind. It was a tad of a normal day out in the hills......but a good day none the less 🤗
This is epic! Can't wait to check it out. Great vids.
Hey mate. Great video. I'm curious what time of year was this? I'd like to add this as a side trip to my Haute Route trek in early September but won't have mountaineering gear and am essentially wondering if it's feasible to cross that glacier on foot without it?
It's a great area. Loved it. And there's more peaks from the hut we didn't do just because we had two first timers. It was first week of September. Very dry by then. In fact all the books showed more of the route to be snow/ glacier. You can do it without touching the glacier. We elected to do it direct just to add the short glacier climb. But you can track left direct to the ridge and avoid it. 👍...and thanks for the comment. Appreciate it 👍
@@MountainManJohnFilms Oh perfect so exactly the same time. I'll add it to the itinerary then. Very much appreciated. Cheers.
No problem. Got the film of the hike up to the hut too. Very nice..... Have fun 👍
👍👍😀😀yes!
Not a great film. But thanks! I've a few others in the same area including the film of it on foot. 👌 And the scramble up Sgurr na String😁
@@MountainManJohnFilms many thanks to you John, your film brings back many memories. Your film takes me back to a time when I climbed inthe cuilen. But now I can only look. Once againmany thanks.
Nice John :)
Appreciated 👌 Desperate to get lots more scrambling done this year. Films too I hope!
@@MountainManJohnFilms brilliant
Absolutely amazing 😊
Thanks for commenting. Bit of a random video! But short of content this month! 👍
Great video John fantastic scenery in tough conditions you certainly deserve more subs with the quality of the videos thanks been a great watch 👍
Appreciated 👍. Thanks for that, It is very slow 🤭. But hey, I enjoy sharing ant the creative part of my hobby so it's all good. I'm too slow getting them out at the moment so that's probably my downfall and most people don't look at the back catalogue after seeing a vid....anyhow, yup. I LOVE Helvellyn and it was about time I camped on it 🤣. Conditions were almost perfect
Great film pal. Stunning winter conditions. Really enjoyed it. I’ve pitched there myself a couple of times. Nice to see someone else blowing a bit with a winter pack. Thought it was just me 🥵😁. I love it when the sky clears like that. So special 🙏🏻. Really nice to see an honest, drama free, no BS video for a change. It’s becoming quite rare on KZread these days. ATB
Yeh that's really nice of you to say. I did mention gear 🫣. But I must say there's way too much drama and gear reviews. I just wanna share the awesomeness of the mountains 👍. Keep it up mate and thanks again. 🤗
Is that the tourist route John? I did Gillean by pinnacle ridge. There where a couple of abseils and I couldn’t see a bloody thing. Great memories. Thanks for sharing. ATB
Yes the "normal route" great ridge but easy. Love the look of pinnacle too. Never done it. . . . Thanks mate
That's Idwal Buttress not staircase.
The guide I used said they were both. With two possibilities of start. One up the watercourse to the left. And one up the arete to the right. They join above the watercourse / buttress and then follow the same route. I'll check my books though. Thanks for the feedback
Changed the description 👍. I'll blame it on my memory. Just means I gotta go back and do the others 👍
