    It would be a better test to just hear the vocal without the instrument. Besides that I think the TLM-103 flatters her voice better.

    Hearing mics in the context of a mix, or at the very least with an instrument gives a better representation of how they perform in real applications. Yea we feel like the 103 is the best mic for her voice!

    Try the InnerTube Kit from InnerTube Audio. It's a kit that allows you to turn the u87 into a tube mic. The sound holds up with the big mics like u47, Ela m 251, c800 g etc. you will definitely get a world class sound. Fat, big, wide, open, 3d. The best thing about it is that you can switch it back to the old standard u87 within a few seconds because it is a plug-in system. when will the comparison with the AI 87 come?

  • @subtonic24
    @subtonic2425 күн бұрын

    I'll be honest, I'm not really that interested in the InnerTube kit. I would much rather own a U67 or M269 before I mod my U87. The comparison between vintage and U87Ai is definitely happening before the end of this year so be on the lookout for that!

    Yea compared to a U87, the CV12 does sound more neutral. I still believe it has a colored sound though from my experience. A combination of mid forward and bright modern sound. I liked it when I used it for a hip hop song I worked on when I needed that crispy modern sound, but not as much when I used it for a more acoustic/ambient song. Thanks for watching!

    I had an Avantone at one time and was disappointed. It sounded very mid range compared to my top shelf mice and even some good sounding budget mics. It sucked on upright bass and I was expecting good deep tube warmth and punch.

  • @subtonic24
    @subtonic24Ай бұрын

    I think that is a mistake everyone makes about tube mics. They assume tubes mean full, rich sound and that's not the case. 90% of the sound is the capsule, and this mic is tuned to be a mid forward sound with less lows and low mids. It uses a transparent tube as well so it's not really going to add much to the sound at quieter volumes. That's probably why you didn't like it.

    Well the avantone and the TLM have different frequency response graphs, the CV-12 has a bit more low end (rolling the lows off at around 50hz and the TLM rolls off at about 70hz). The cv-12 also has boosting @ 50-80hz, 150hz-300hz, 550hz-750hz, 1.5khz-5khz, and 7khz-15khz. The TLM is a pretty flat response with just 1 big boost from 4khz-18khz pretty much. So although the TLM is a very clean airy sound, the CV-12 is more rich in the mid-range with a bit of that crisp high end. I’m a Neumann type of guy tho 😂 I’ve never owned a CV-12 but it looks like a pretty good mic.
