Hi and welcome to my channel. I’m a private pilot currently based at Barton Aerodrome, Manchester. I fly the Eurostar.
I started my training for the NPPL licence in 2019 with Breeze Aviation at Sherburn Aero Club in North Yorkshire. I’ve tried to upload videos showing my learning journey and from now, my adventures as a qualified pilot.
Please note, my videos are heavily edited. As such, checks and radio calls will be regularly omitted. What you see isn’t always how it occurred and some scenarios may be taken out of context. Please make no judgment based on these videos. Full passenger safety briefings are always carried out and their welfare is my number one priority.
I'd be really pleased to hear your comments and answer any questions you might have - and please do subscribe!
Please remember, these videos are for entertainment only.

Thats an old school instructor
Lovely video 😀 this one was taken from Husbands Bosworth : kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZ-V0MuIg82taKg.html
Good little Video Matt. Interesting watch. I recently purchased a Sting S4. It also flies different to my old Eurostar.
Thanks Roger. Jealous of your new aircraft!
8 months! Where's the new video? We've been waiting ages!!! 😄
Thanks for noticing!!!! I’ve not flown since this flight, winter has been long and wet and I’ve been doing my motorbike licence. I’m aiming to get back in the air this summer 👍
Top vid
Thanks!!!
I'm about to start my NPPL training and find your videos very useful. Nice genuine couple too!
Thanks for that, good luck with your flying 😎
Hi Matthew I would be a great passenger..when can you squeeze us in :)
The insects were loud...crazy fun
Die Überblendung mit den alten Fotos find ich gut 👍
recommend you to get a co monitor as those sticker indicators are unreliable and only discolor at very high co levels
You flew over my house. I'm planning on starting my ppl M training later on this year.
Good luck Simon, you’ll love it 😎
@flyingwithmatt112 Thank you. I started my ppl A years ago, didn't finish it.
@@SimonAmazingClarke You’ll find two seaters a lot cheaper to fly that’s for sure. And more fun too.
Hi Matt, well a year on and I’m guessing you have got comfortable with the Skyranger, they also side slip really well with that boxy shape btw. I installed a rudder bias on mine which helps in various configurations, whether two up or taking off etc. IMHO the 100 hp is the way to go, the climb out is it’s party trick.
Hi there! Actually, I never really clicked that well with the SKR.... I moved back to Manchester Barton and the Eurostar this summer. At the moment Im taking a break from flying until I find the right aircraft in the right place.
I think i have seen you on Friday i was doing low level route on that day. I hope you enjoyed the touch and goes if you were flying the aircraft.
I came from a Cessna 172 to an X-Air 582. I only learnt how to use the rudder in the X-Air. Made a huge difference. When I started on the Skyranger it was a much easier transiton, only becuase of the rudder work I learnt in the X-Air. Great video Matt! We all learn from these.
Crosswind take off -> stick into the wind.. same with landings...
I enjoyed that..Beautiful aircraft and you would definitely make a great flying instructor..
Many thanks!
Lovely aircraft. Just subscribed to give you 1k well done!
Many thanks 🎉
Love it
Loved this video! Great aeronautical decision making. And your daughters it’s so cute. What a trooper.
Thank you 😎
Some great decision making there. I was trying to work out where you were flying from. I was stationed at both Church Fenton, Leeds East Airport and Finningley, Doncaster Airport. When I was in the RAF.
Hi Simon, I was flying from Sherburn at the time, next door to Church Fenton as you will know 👍
Living the Dream Matt.. Thank you.
Another great highly watchable video from You and Sarah... I love seeing these small UK airfields.. I fly flight sim and its nice sometimes to copy a flight like this.. Perhaps in the future (You may have done this on future videos I have not seen yet) to do a flight plan /Map, just a suggestion.. Wish my wife was interested in flying like Sarah, she is scared of flying so I have just to stick to RC Helicopters/fixed wing and the sim.. Thanks again Matt
Thanks again, yes I’ll try put a sky demon flight plan on the video next time. Sarah tends to just go along with whatever I’m into at the time 😂
Look fwd to more of your videos to watch... Excellent... Just found you site today.
Very kind.
Nice video very enjoyable to watch
Thank you very much
IFR navigation? I Follow Roads. 😁 It's amazing how quickly power for altitude, attitude for speed ceases to seem counter intuitive.
Bloody hell she is switched on!!! Great video Matt!
Too switched on Mark 😂
Great Video Matt, Good decision making there. David G BV
Thanks David
This was interesting to see. I saw your trail and divert on FR24 and wondered what had happened. Good to see you were able to navigate the weather safely and get back home 🙂
Thanks Karl
Well that was lovely on the way there then certainly looked a bit tricky on the way back! Well done for getting back safely - it’s all about the end result!
Bang on mate. Glad to be back on the ground at Barton that day for sure.
Great video matt. Good decision to head back and wait. Glad you got back okay. Well done for not snagging any sheep on your flight too. 😂
Thanks Michael. Definitely a good decision. The sheep part made me laugh. 😂
She's cute.. I chuckled, perfect day out for a little girl flying around looking at football stadiums. Lol
Thanks 😎
great video mate
Thanks!
Some brilliant facial expressions from Harriet on take off. :) I loved the N,E,S,W A-M. Thanks for bringing us along. Harriet makes some brilliant comments "There was a bump....AGAIN.." made me chuckle. You need to come for a flight in one of those " Classic Microlights" Matt ;)
Ha I’m not sure I’m brave enough but I’ll try anything once so I’m up for it! She’s funny is Harriet, she’s normally a lot more chatty. She was very tired that day.
Hey Matt, it’s Paul. Absolute correct decision to go back, you don’t want to put yourself in a risky position. Weather sometimes looks fine from the ground but is completely different once in the air. I went up on Saturday and the showers where phenomenal. I’ll do Welshpool with you when your free.
Hi Paul, 100% mate. It was totally clear at St Michaels and at Bolton and Barton, just south of Preston it was rained in. No way would anyone want to fly though that non IFR on instruments. Let’s get down there in September mate if you like.
Perfect mate let’s get a date booked in the diary for it.
What a great moment to have with your daughter...absolutely magic❤At least you can get in the air when you've passed...I'm only 5 hours in and the weather is frustrating my lessons!
Many thanks for your nice comment. I definitely think I enjoy it more than her though 😂
@@flyingwithmatt1986 Is the EV97 yours? a syndicate aircraft or hired from Barton?
@@QuantatativeStealing It’s hired from Barton. You pay £x per month into the kitty and then per flying hour ‘wet’. I was in a syndicate with the Skyranger and this way is actually cheaper.
@@flyingwithmatt1986 How long did it take you to get your License Matt? inspite of the great British weather 🤭
@@QuantatativeStealing I passed after about 40 hours. I started 2019 and passed in 2021 - but was not flying for a while during 2020 Covid.
Your copilot uses the same aide-mémoire for directional navigation as I do! 🐘
I still have to do it in my head, every time!!!
kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKCpsa2wpqrWg7w.html not you but just a reminder
Very interesting Matt, I looked it up on Wikipedia
It’s one of the only places from ww2 where the decisive battle took place within a few square miles that you can see in an afternoon
Hello Matt. I visited Knockin today and last night watched this video again and would like to say I found it very useful and interesting, almost like visiting before I visited. Thank you! It is a beautiful strip and I was visited by a military helicopter practicing circuits. More of the same please Matt. I haven't visited Hawksview yet if you do requests!
Hi, thanks for your comment!! When I was starting out I found it really useful to view videos of the airfield before I went, so I’m glad to hear my videos are helping too 😎
We’re you in the front or back Matt?
Front seat but would love to solo one!!
😊😊😊wow
This is so cute! I hope you make an aviator out of her 😂✈️
Thanks!!! 😎
Brilliant video sir. Id love to get my license but so many questions unanswered. The cost for lessons? The rough time it takes to complete? Cost of the plane and costs of running? If you could shed some light that would be amazing.
Thanks! Lessons average about £130 per hour. You need to have a minimum of 25 hours but realistically is more like 40 hours. You could pass in a few months if you have lessons every week or every other week. It took me around 1.5 years of lessons here and there. You can buy a ‘microlight’ for a little as £4K, but for something nice you need a minimum of £25k-£40k. I hire per hour at a flying club. That’s £40/month and £80 per flying hour all in. Hope that helps.
Did you speak to the owner at Lambley I think he operates a Cessna 182 from there? Great video and loved the banter. Cheers Matt 👍
Hi Terry, yes spoke to the owner and PPRd before I left Barton. Lovely informal little place. A couple of nice aircraft there too. They were preparing for an Aeros comp at the time. Was great to watch.
Enjoyed that Matt, nearly 1000 subs as well. Can't believe you flew past Cassington water and didn't mention Darley Moor. Only kidding. Looked fun on the way back.
Thank you! I spotted Calton Moor but didn’t see Darley. On my list to visit though 👍
@@flyingwithmatt1986 Always welcome for a brew. :)
Great memories of flying in a supercub, Warrior and C182 there in the late 80s
It’s a beautiful little strip 👍
99% UK viewers? Really? In that case, I guess I am a one-percenter. :) Oh, and can I make a request? Can you mix the audio so the radio is not only on the left channel? That would make it more comfortable to watch using headphones. Thanks!
Hi Patrick! Yes you must indeed be a 1%er 😂. Apologies on the audio, I think it’s set up for mono recording. If I can work out how to change it, I will 👍
Great video sir! 😊
Thanks mate 😎
Is this stock, did you just add the exhaust and nothing else
Hi, yes it’s a straight cat back swap.
@@flyingwithmatt1986 did you notice any loss in torque or power? Love your car bro
@@boxingmediatv7553 Thanks! No none at all.
Just catching up Matt. Very helpful video.
Thanks Terry!
Any new videos out soon Matt
