    The real problem is rooftop isolators and that is why (too late) the regs have changed. Get rid of the rooftop isolators and you get rid of the problem. And much cheaper than an expensive Enphase system.

    You are very misleading. Most panels have diodes that allow them to be isolated when one is shaded so it no longer causes a large power drop. And micro inverters fail a lot and cost a lot to get someone to replace them. It is clear that you are making money from installing these. You also did not talk about optimizers.

    Blabla...shade..algorithm..blabla.. They forget something important, all panels are not egal vs shades....depending how there electric circuit is built. Whatever algorithm you got in a chain inverter would solve a shitty panel. So...contrary to their discussion, a chain inverter that work good with shades need many other parameters to be fullfilled. This is NOT the case with a micro inverter.

    Great information ! One question I’ve - how much power does a 5p typically consume during idle time or when it does nothing ? I’m reading lot of reviews that it requires lot of power for maintenance.

    Enphase marketing gimmicks aside: If you have any kind of shade you need Enphase? Not really people have tested this and the difference is around 2-5 percent. Typically the string inverter in peak sun will slight outperform the Enphase system with Enphase picking up the slack later in the day. Central point of failure in the Enphase system is the IQ combiner box. Enphase offers a superb 25 year warranty for the Microinverters but with their combiner box... 5 years... hmm likely to fail maybe. AC coupled systems have efficiency losses when adding battery storage. These efficiency losses can approach 10 percent of total system output when you factor DC-AC at the panel then AC to DC back to the battery. This is not the case with DC connected string inverters which reach efficiencies as high as 97-99 percent. Not to mention most microinverters have a substantial amount of clipping as panel power has outpaced microinverter output. As far as safety is concerned RSD or rapid shutdown devices are required at the panel level in most states whether you have microinverter or string inverter. For home insurance reasons there is no extra discount for going with specifically an AC couple solar panel option. If the other option was so dangerous insurance providers would drop home coverage for sting inverter solar systems but as you can see that is just not the case. Cost - I have received quote for Enphase systems and they have been at the very least 5-10 thousand dollars more than a comparable string inverter system like the PowerWall3. Payoff time for an extra 5-10 thousand can be 4-8 years more for Enphase depending on rates and usage. Aesthetics - A single Powerwall inverter battery system or the equivalent 3 separate battery boxes, loads panel (usually), IQ Combiner Box and all the interconnected conduit. All that being said I still really do like the Enphase solution. I just wish that they would step up the panel wattage support, create a solution for housing multiple components into a single housing to reduce install costs/complexity.

    Hi. I do have a "Consumption Meter" installed with my solar panel system. My solar panel is "not" a battery type of system. I am still confused on the app.... what does it mean "Net Exported". Why is "Exported" a higher number? In my mind I keep thinking that the "Net Exported" is the excess that was sent to the grid? For my situation, I have these numbers showing on the app, that match my billing cycle time period. The numbers are: 174 Imported, 898 Produced, 403 consumed, 494 Net Exported, and 669 Exported. I just do not understand the "Net Exported" number. Can you try to explain it to me in as simple terms as possible? Again, i keep thinking the 494 is the excess sent to the grid, and not the 669. I look forward to your reply. Thank you so much.

Oh it’s just a little bit sure that’s how it starts then oh net zero is going to cost more up goes the tax. Oh get batteries there is a big uptake new age all of the buzz words that will cost you how much to install and how long to get a return on investment. Really snake oil with tax. Get a grip

    I have an Enphase PV system (IQ8A inverters) and my installer says I can only use the PW2 (or Enphase 5P) since the PW3 is only DC coupled. I can get 2 PW2s for $3500 less than 3 Enphase 5Ps. Seems like a no-brainer the PW2s are the best bang for the buck. My concern is the NCM vs LFP chemistry, should I be concerned?

  • @thomasjacques5286
    @thomasjacques528620 күн бұрын

    What's the status of the PW2 given the new PW3 isn't AC Coupled while the older PW2 is? I want the LFP chemistry and since I have 31 PV panels (12.5 kWh) with 31 Enphase IQ8A Inverters. Now my installer only offers two choices, the Tesla PW2 with the NMC chemistry and the Enphase 5P with LFP. On paper, the older PW2 is the best bang for the buck but its future and chemistry hold me back. With the available credits/rebates in Illinois, I can get 2 PW2s installed for $3500 LESS than 3 Enphase 5Ps. Could there be a NEW AC-coupled PW3 just around the corner? Should I be fearful of the older NMC chemistry aka FIRES? See my dilemma? While I'm in the US your video and explanation are brilliant and will use it when trying to educate my Neanderthal neighbors.

    Voltage variations in the local supply plagued our old 4 kW Inverter and often made it shut down. So glad we have upgraded to microinverters since then!

  • @thomasjacques5286
    @thomasjacques528622 күн бұрын

    I wanted to add PW3s to my existing Enphase PV system with their IQ8A micro inverters and was just informed the PW3 currently doesn't work with my gear (12.5 kWh PV system about 25% more generation than consumption with NEM). So my installer suggested some Enphase 5Ps or the PW2. He did say the PW2 would be much cheaper offer more backup power and take up less wall space in my garage. So he's working up an estimate. In addition to the 30% tax credit I was informed my local utility will give me a $300 per kWh CASH REBATE, so I'd be getting $9100 back as a CASH REBATE. I can get two PWs for a few thousand less than a noise 24kW generator. So while I wanted LFP I can live with the PW2 given it will be installed inside a finished garage. Great video and you answered all my questions.

    The most hilarious thing is that I have a customer that has a 6.6 kW system on their roof. Today, that system produced 28.5 kWh. This is smack bang in the middle of winter, mind you. So you're either lying about the solar production figures of your customers, or you are admitting that even with your "better" in-house teams and more expensive products, the 6.6 kW systems that Penrith Solar perform noticeably worse than a Jinko & Growatt system.

    wow! We are off grid and about 12 years ago, we bought our system. Panels, 8 x 6V batteries (had to replace them about 2 years ago), generator etc. Cost us $35000 !!!! Used to live at Quakers Hill, but now up in Qld about 23Km for the nearest small town Get ready for the size ....... 2.4 Kw ))) Just thought that it might interest you, that you are talking of, what I see as "massive" systems, while we have our little 2.4 Kw system Alas, being on a pension, we can't afford to upgrade. It took me heaps of time just to save up for the new batteries ))))))) And there's something wrong with what we've got. So, I'm having to kick over the genni every night for about 3 hours (say 6pm to 9pm) to make sure that we use "that" power and don't run the batteries down below 8.8V Then, we turn off fridge n freezer and have a bucket of water in the dunny so that the water pump doesn't kick in if anyone needs to spend a penny during the night Thanks for the interesting video )))) By the way, that Alan Border mob won't touch us with a 10 foot pole because "we are off grid" But I wouldn't go on grid anyway. It would mean that we'd have to run power about 800mthrough 2 creeks and down then up mountains (hmmm big hills)

    This bloke is one of the most respected solar sparkies in the country. I don’t always agree with him either. But he’s a great operator and a smart bloke. I don’t particularly agree with Jake’s Enphase obsession, but an install is more about the installer and the company behind the product. That’s Penrith solar every day of the week.

  • @keithw7777

    Not sure that what Penrith Solar is saying is correct , generally, the DNO in your area, will always have the last word about inverter size. Example my area NEast England, due to infrastructure weaknesses, will not allow individual domestic ,single phase properties to have higher than 3.6 kWt inverters. Why, future requests from other properties in my area for solar arrays, local networks unable to cope when too many systems are exporting in same area on a sunny day and lastly their inability to stop the network voltage rising above 253 volts if everyone is exporting. Penrith saying their average system is above 12 kWs or similar just cannot be true as every installation is different, not average.h2onorth

    A good explanation, I have just received a quote for a 6.6 kW from Penrith solar, and you are right. It is nowhere near competitive with others due to in house trades and not sub contractor's.. However, When you only have 14 panels of roof space, how can you upsize to a bigger system to make it more cost competitive. . Is there another option?

    Just an FYI, using in house installers, especially apprentices, who earn award wages should be cheaper than outsourcing to skilled contractor teams..... what utter nonsense, sounds like your market is manipulated to insensitive the 6.6kw system with a 5kw inverter. in 2012 the UK the old G98 self certification system up to an inverter of 3.68kw with 4kw array was mostly installed. and everyone demanded a south facing install. today in 2024 east/west systems seem to offer better value for the customer as the panels are the cheapest part of the installation. battery installation will still only just give the customer RIO within most warranties, thou GivEnergy now offer a jump from 10 to 12 yrs on there battery.
