I have now got the opportunity to start uploading some of my Archive Video's from trips out in the Mid 90's Please bear in mind the footage is nearly 30 years old now and has been transferred from 8mm to VHS and then onto DVD however the sound quality is pretty good.
So join me on a Nostalgic trip back to the Railway as it was some 25 years ago which has changed radically from what we see today
I cannot thank Sharpo enough for his help and assistance in getting the ball rolling for me

Sad to see all those great locos in such a state of disrepair Im sure with love and affection they would still do the job
Re.e.ber storming this shed in 1972. A group of us went through the gap in the fence and down the hill. We we were rumbled when we ended up in the depot itself and had to be removed via the road entrance. Happy days
Just came across this channel. Liked and subbed.
In Tinsley 47236 inside the shed was ex Canton TMD in 1974-86 & the 47 with No front cab was 47291 in RFD Livery, spares use wfu, I saw the first 2 Rumanian Built 56001/002 arrive on 7 Aug 1976 (I was inside the shed) pushed into the Maintenance Depot by a Class 31, Both were so New & Shiny in old BR Blue Livery, in them days we were spoilt for choice for Loco's, Just buy an old Locoshed Spotters book to see how many Diesels BR had in them days.
Great Video, That's how I remember 87101 Stephenson in that livery during the 80's often seen in Willesden Depot.
Cheers mt, think i saw 87101 twice at Stafford when i used to do my overnight session, once it was on an Enterprise working and only hauling 1 wagon!! What a waste of all that power!!
Brilliant late 90s Slam door/ GAT Ex' action..😊👍🏾👍🏾
Cheers, glad you enjoyed
Old Oak was always great for a discreet stroll round - did you get n by the hole in the canal fence?
I used to live up in North West London in the late 80s/early 90s and i used to wander round a couple of times a week usually after work in high summer when it was light!! I even got familiar with a couple of the Foremen down there who were always obliging!!
Great stuff before all red death took over not a single ying ying in sight
The bridge you took most of the footage from was known as twin bridges, (or tin bridges, depending on who you spoke to). Great footage. Thanks for sharing....
Thanks for your comment John
🚂👍
Nice good video :)
Trains look so much better with no stupidly different coloured doors.
Incredible range of locos. Whereas today......
S&T had blue wagons, great example here.
47150 & 152 where the first 47’s to be converted and operate in multi on Freightliners. They were incredibly suited to that work type being able to hold their own against 2 x 86’s. &5mph climbing up Stoke Bank for 2000 tones was impressive for sure.
Thanks so much for all of these Stafford videos! Reminds me when I used to pull all nights with the FMI gang - BT4, Chalky, Dave Lindsell, onlydjw to name but a few, even though they were a few years after this there was still plnety to see during the day & overnight - with plenty of variety! Cheers, Officer Dibble :)
No problems Dibs. You may or may not have realised that i am Freightmasters finest Grid Nutter!!
26th October... rather interesting evening.
What an unforgettable night that was! My 2 memories of it will always be the fire and that dudes blue coat 😁
Goodness, good job the Media didn't hear of that. "NUKE TRAIN BLAZE!!!" 😒
Splendid! Back then i would never of thought class 66's would mean so much to me in the end! 66055 there, i have vids by her driving, or more like blasting off that loco, after getting her token, on the single line to Calvert. . . . I will share some more one day hehe. . . Very interesting video mate, that 20 at the end ooof!!!
Cheers, glad you enjoyed. If you like 56s then i hope to load some footage from Hatfield & Stainforth and Barnetby tomorrow!!
Superb 👌
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed
Just before the 66s took over
Great
Cracking video, what year was this please?
Hi there, glad you enjoyed. It was filmed in August 2001. Cheers
Those were the days Steve, still plenty of freight and plenty of tugs to pull them. Newport a shadow of what it was now. Great footage Steve and incidentaly, i have just uploaded one from your neck of the woods, Eastleigh in 1988. Take a look if you have some spare time. All the best, Colin.
Cheers Colin. Have just watched the Eastleigh clip, very enjoyable. Can recall getting some haulage behind those ED hauled trains whilst the REPs were having their Traction motors ripped out and slung under the 442's. Now whatever happened to them?!!
Thanks a lot Steve, i'm glad you enjoyed it. Just a shame about the weather on the day 🤥
Excellent! A regular haunt for me up from Kent in the 90's, so much traffic there. Nice to see 56031 'Merehead' as my ex girlfriend remembers driving that one! Also nice to see her these days masquerading as 69001 down my parts. The loco that is :) . . . I spend hours sometimes playing trains at Donny in my head staring at my 16 x model 56's and others i painted, imagining 1990 again.
When they build a time machine i will go back with you!! They were great days. I never experienced Donny during the Deltic days but i bet that was a different gravy!!!!
These where the days to go train spotting fantastic days full of memories
What an amazing video, thanks for sharing. Some fantastic sector, engineering and load haul liveries and proper mixed freight 👏🏻👍
Great video, with bonus on the route via Portobello. It's still used for services trains and diversions. Pre-pandemic there was a daily Pendolino, TfW 158, and a LM Turbostar timetabled through. Obviously that's changed but when/if service levels ramp up they should start again.
Great video, thanks very much!
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed
✅
👍
Oh that was such a great blast from the past. It brought back many happy memories of spotting at my local spots of Brocklesby junction and Barnetby back in that era.
Thanks Richard, glad you enjoyed it. They were great days indeed
Never ventured up the line to Croxton Farm crossing Steve when i used to go to that line. Wish i had now as it looks great. The 58 was a good catch as i don't remember them being all that common to and from Immingham, and the thrash from 56103 was a bit special wasn't it. Good film mate.
Thanks Colin. The 58 was a chuck out from Worksop and the only one that i saw venture to Immingham. Shame i ruined the Video a bit but i did get a good Fot of it and when it came back loaded. Unfortunately we were at New Barnetby and i could not video due to the high sided footbridge
My old stomping ground 🤗
Do you feature in any of the footage?!
@@thegridnutter8377 no
Some very nice footage there Steve. Thanks for sharing it
Thanks Colin, have just popped another one on taken 21 years ago to the day!!!
That first bit of 56 emerging and diving back into fog is cinematic gold.
Absolute gold, more please 👏🏻👍😀
At that time the muddy track down to Wrawby was closed due to foot mouth like everywhere else.
I'm looking forward to the Cavalex 00 gauge models of the grids. Between them and Accurascale, they are bankrupting me!
What a lot of 37s! Interesting: a 90 and Class 20s racing 🏁. And the 37/90 parallel departure at the end.
☺At10:09the 1853 Alphaline service to Cardiff Central was delayed by approximately 10 minutes, then literally five seconds later it was delayed by approximately 17 minutes! 😳
Lol!! This was the start of the age of the digitally generated announcements and they were going off pretty non stop until the late evening!! Think the weather had something to do with the delays
@@thegridnutter8377 I particularly liked how it used to say "I'm very sorry 😞 for the delay" as if it was an actual person. No you're not, you're a computer program that has no feelings 😑
The words "The delayed xxxx service to London Paddington" was very common at that time. 🤔 At least there wasn't the endless "Bing bong May we have your attention please" and then repeated all over again in Welsh 🤫
* Great Valenta sound at2:25, though at the time I thought they weren't half noisy ******s
Ah, some nice memories of a day at Reading. * The Turbo unit there at0:31, 165115, was the one involved in the Ladbroke Grove crash in 1999 🤔
Oh blimey, i didn't realise that!! Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent as always, thank you.
Tug & Grid heaven...both been the nasty sheds and day😃👍
Fantastic video the sound of those Grids is amazing. Great stuff 👍👍
Cheers Mike, hopefully will be some more to come in a couple of weeks time. The chap that processes my footage is currently on Holiday
Superb video, & even spotted myself! Miss those days, especially driving 56s! Not the same today, & will feel strange soon when I sign the class 69s!
Nice one. What Loco were you driving or were you on the platform watching the procession of Freights??
@@thegridnutter8377 At 10:12 stood waiting for 56034, then setting off south. I'm a lot slimmer now haha!
@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf Nice one, was a hell of a train you took into Arpley. How long were you in there shunting that around?!
@@thegridnutter8377 Wow, it was 24 years ago now, but it was a Mossend - Bescot so went into Arpley to have the logs wagons removed for onward movement to Shotton Paper or Chirk Kronospan, so could be anything from half an hour to 2 hours plus! Was end of shift for me at Arpley so went home from there. Shame things aren't the same today. On Biomass tomorrow early doors with a 60. Should have been on the Tuebrook- Penmaenmawr stone but took a swap. Off to bed shortly. Once again, a great video of the good old days 👍🏻
@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf No problem, there are plenty of other video's for you to wade through at your leisure. And good to see you are still moving Freight around almost a quarter of a century on, respect to you for doing that
Great video, thank you. Nice seeing the variety of freight. It's sad the mail trains are gone.
