    Kevin, I am looking at the Akubra stylemaster as a bit of outdoors/adventure hat (I have some Stetsons but you have mentioned Akubra can handle a beating). But, I think I would really like a center crease with pinch front. Do you think the Akubra style master could handle changing the crown style?

    Should you always store your hats 🤠 🎩 that are in a hat box laying flat, or is it safe to store them standing up?

  • @quadrogong1111
    @quadrogong11113 күн бұрын

    Heh heh that’s a good one. Nobody has ever asked that question It’s probably not the worst thing, but it’s definitely better flat on its bottom, Sometimes when they’re new they’re really secure w foam and stuff and they can be on the side or upside down But unless it’s perfectly secure, flat is better.

    Can you wear the starlite in the rain and snow ?

  • @quadrogong1111
    @quadrogong11113 күн бұрын

    I wouldn’t wear any felt fedoras in the rain or snow. Especially a new one. They might be fine for lighter rains and snow but I still don’t do it. The only times s felt Fedora will look good in the rain is in a Hollywood movie if you get a KTG you can try, but I personally have fixed thousands of hats from rain storms and whether it’s a $1500 hat or $30, they don’t do well. Not unless it’s an Akubra, which are quite thick & stiff, like a western hat. But soft felt will lose its shape in rain and snow unless you have a big umbrella. And if it’s windy, even that won’t help.

  • @donschafer3428
    @donschafer34284 күн бұрын

    Quick question, how will the felt handle rain? I’ll be sending you an order for the Galaxie Olive here shortly too. That’s a beautiful color combination.

  • @quadrogong1111
    @quadrogong11113 күн бұрын

    I dunno,I never tried, but in general, felt dress hats aren’t really that sturdy, they’re light, soft and flexible.. made for comfort, not durability so even if the felt is rainproof, you can still lose the shape. The actual weight of the water weighs a brim down, and hats often dry funny. Sometimes a rain can not affect it at all While other times it can make a new hat look old and terrible. This is not problematic felt, like so many big brands use, But.. I would avoid rain, and buy a cheaper rain hat.. to be careful. Or get a nice big umbrella, that helps a lot If you get caught out there just use an umbrella or put it in a plastic bag. If you don’t have those things I suggest flipping the brim up. Dry it upside down w the brim in the up position. Straighten the brim so it looks new, round.. away from heat and hot rooms. it should dry ok. at worst need a tiny steam up, but you can’t just say,”rain” There’s sprinkles, a few drops, and there’s saturating it. Light rain will probably be fine but I avoid it, I just wear my older or cheaper hats when it might rain

    Does the Comet have an open crown version?

  • @quadrogong1111
    @quadrogong11113 күн бұрын

    We can technically make any hat open crown for you, the thing is, the comet is usually a 4” crown I think the crown will look unusually tall for that brim. open crown is very tall, and it probably won’t balance well with a smaller 2 1/4” brim. I don’t think we have an open crown low enough I’ll be forthright about it, it could be done, but I’m not sure the crown we have will look right with a 21/4” brim I’m just not sure about that combination..and I really don’t want you to be disappointed w the results, but it is possible, I’m not 100% onboard w the idea though

    @@quadrogong1111 Thanks, I really appreciate it! Mostly was looking for a crown that could accommodate a good deep diamond bash that Bogart liked to give his hats, but I remember that his brims weren’t super wide. Would you recommend the Nostalgia instead then?

    Great great great hats, shipping to Austria is possible? 👋 Regards Jürgen

  • @quadrogong1111
    @quadrogong11113 күн бұрын

    Yes, very possible but you’ll have to be prepared for a surprise shipping fee. Sending a KTG to Taiwan was $156, I paid $50 worth of his bill. So if shipping down to Australia costs, let’s say,for example,$185. I’ll pay $50 of that bill and your bill will be $135. Only I’m not sure how much it’ll be, you can pay as high as $150 (Plus all those taxes/duties on your end) I’d estimate you might pay $135-150 it’s up there. just shipping to USA costs me $35-65 ( I pay an average of $50 to pack and ship every hat,Magill provides boxes and packing too, for me) The answer is yes, but you’d have to be prepared for that fat bill

    I tried to make the binding as wide as physically possible on that one, we did a 9 ligne binding on the Skypiece, that’s what you might see on an open road or an Allessandr. , (The Stetson Whippet is maybe 12 ligne,) I believe we got it as wide as 16 ligne. After that it started making little puckers and gaps when the ribbon turned corners, it took the guys a little time to get so,e of these new techniques down. But with every batch I see things I need to improve..the angle of the bow, or the way we stitch it. You’ll see each batch looking slightly sharper with all those little tweaks.
