So therefore you can if you want too. ☺️🤗🥰
I bought 3 hanging tray and put some millets and rice in one and water in other two. I have kept them for a week now. No birds are coming to eat or drink in this summer. Any suggestions?

I'm new here. It's my first time. I love birds
For every seed that the birds pick, three fall to the ground. 🤷♂️ I need a "no-waste" feeder!
With this type of seed mix where there are no husks, anything that does fall to the ground is generally quickly eaten by ground feeding species like Blackbird, Dunnock and Collared dove. Indeed, these species will often loiter below a feeder to pick up what the tits and finches drop!
@VineHouseFarm - Let's not forget that rats and mice are ground feeders, too.
Of course, but that issue can be dealt wit as well www.vinehousefarm.co.uk/how-to-deter-rats-attracted-to-gardens-by-bird-food
@@VineHouseFarm - The only solution provided in the link you provided is to bring the feeder indoors at night. 🤔 How about providing some kind of tray to prevent seeds from falling on the ground?
Yes that's another options and we do in fact sell such products! There are some different ones here www.vinehousefarm.co.uk/bird-feeders/bird-feeding-accessories
Have both of these coming to feeder.😅
3:00 really caught me off guard
The stuff looks pretty lard-heavy, causing the bird is continually wipe its bill to clean the goo off. Maybe would be best to use this food in cold season only. I put chopped raisins, pnuts as well as pbutter in my mix, so it is a light tan color. Why is yours so white?
There's no lard in it, and birds have no problem at all eating it or cleaning their bills. It's actually a very firm texture, and we would think the reason for the light colour is the lack of other ingredients - e.g. those you list in your own mix.
Another delivery from VHF yesterday ordered Wednesday arrived Thursday, great product, our garden birds love it. Must visit you farm next year. Many thanks to all involved at the farm
Looks like the seed in the feeder is actually a (finch) mix that includes finer grade sunflower chips.
Such beautiful birds, thanks for sharing!
Thank you too

This is actually a very good good video. It explained a lot of things that i wanted to know about. 🩷
As a wild bird feeding expert for years, I have a few bits of info to share with Eastern North American enthusiasts. First: this video is a British production. European birds are a slightly different group with a few major differences. I’m most familiar with eastern North American birds, so my knowledge and advice is specific to these areas. 80% of birds that eat seeds, prefer sunflower seeds. 97% of birds that eat seeds from FEEDERS, prefer sunflower seeds. Seed mixes with millet/corn/milo/oats/wheat are usually eaten by ground feeding birds. Attracting ground feeding birds to your backyard is not the birds most people want or are trying to attract and can be a nuisance especially to other birds (not to mention you neighbors). Using these multi-mixes with lesser preferred seeds can result in slow bird traffic and wasted money on seed that few birds will eat. These seeds used in a feeder are likely to be shoveled out by birds trying to pick out the few seeds (sunflower) that they want, resulting in those seeds falling on the ground and possibly germinating or just rotting and getting rancid. My advice is: fill most of your hanging feeders with sunflower seeds in squirrel-proof feeders. Squirrels will eat seeds quickly and run off most of the birds. Unless you enjoy squirrels, this is a issue to consider. Niger/thistle seeds are mostly eaten by Goldfinches, Pine Siskins and Purple Finches. Few others will eat them and these birds can be seasonal depending on your location. Southern areas may only need to feed it in winter months. Water is an important part of a backyard feeding area. You may attract birds that otherwise would never come to your yard unless you’re lucky enough to live near or bordered by a water source. A bowl with a fresh water dripper/mister is best unless you are able to change the water daily. Suet is a seasonal feed that is desired more during the colder months and the more “lard-heavy” mixtures are messy/melty during summer months so buying a dough-heavy suet during summer is best. Birds tend to prefer it as well. Instead of suet, my parents use to make a cheap buttermilk biscuit mix that was lard/shortening heavy that the suet eating birds liked. Suet that contains seeds is a contrary thing because the birds that are eating suet are not particularly looking for seeds to eat. It’s like having walnuts in your brownies. Some people just want the brownies. With biscuits, they get what they want without having to pick through seeds. Biscuits are cheap to make and can be baked in a pan like a loaf, then sliced into the size of your suet cage and frozen. Woodpeckers, nuthatches and several other birds really go for the biscuits! Have fun!
Love them, great footage
Thankyou!
