You make it look so easy, 😂 always a learning experience, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
We have cracks but not much rust problems at all in West Texas 😊 Bone dry area 😢
Let’s go Brandon . I see your fan club stickers all over the place
🤣🤣🤣
So I am looking to learn to weld, this video is 2 years old. What do you think of it now? I plan on using it for making Jeep parts and hobby welding.
The person that won it has stayed in contact with me and they live it. I have the 211P and it's one of my favorites for welding aluminum.
Looks good! I was always told push not pull for better gas coverage, 3/4” stick out and run higher cfh with aluminum than usual mig welding?! Seems it all went well for ya nonetheless! Kudos! Aluminum is fun!!
Spot on 100%. If you pull which you should try to avoid because it's easy to get porosity, you have to crank the gas higher for coverage. I pulled this to manipulate the amperage. By pulling you can cheat it a little to make it run a little cooler.
I've found another way to use them. No need to cut the ends of the packaging off. If you look closely at the tee rail the sockets slide on, near one end is a partially molded piece that pops off. Now you slide each socket down and off the rail so that helps. Now take each socket to your vise and clamp up socket and use pliers to pull out remaining post with pliers. Look close at each post and you'll see partially molded slots on each post. Take a hacksaw, razor knife or I found using a sawzall blade by hand and open up those slots. This allows posts to compress as you pull sockets on and off. Now, slide them all back on the rail one at a time.
God bless! Thank you!
And to you! Thank you Scott!
Practice makes perfect.
I tested some thick to thin fillet welding on DCEN with these 6013, 1/16th. Welding .042" walled conduit pipe to 1/8" plate. It was extremely frustrating on DCEN. Even on high amperage the penetration was ZERO. Switched to DCEP and then the weld was reliable. So I would be careful about looks versus testing the weld.
Another happy customer, Brandon!!! So, a few bucks, and a little time, and there you have it....a repaired item that is better than new.....those welds where they broke did not look too good!!! Love the use of the Crescent Wrench for straightening the metal. Good tip!!! Thanks and be well, be safe, and be Blessed!!!
Thanks Jim! A nice quick fix to get them back in business! I hope your having a great weekend!
I’ve never welded aluminum, great video Brandon 👍😁
Thanks Dave! This is probably the easiest and cheapest way to get I to aluminum welding.
Reading reviews, using argon 75/25 ? Or pure argon ? So you increase the gas higher ? By what % ?? ( I didn’t catch all video) I know Tig uses argon straight. I have both bottles on hand.
Straight Argon and I was running around 40cfh
I bought myself like you have still in box over a year !!! I have several aluminum repairs need done but no time!! Grrrr. Nice repair job you’re doing sir!!
Thanks man! This is probably the easiest and cheapest way to get into aluminum welding. I.prefer this over TIG because it's quick!
Good stuff Brandon!!! Thanks for the informative video!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for another great video, Brandon!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Hey Brandon, nice repair and a good explanation of the job as always. That's why I follow you and look at the videos. Aluminum is a very strange metal that you can compare with solder lad? when you don't see it, it's gone before you know. If people, who almost can't weld, ask me to learn them weld aluminum, I always say " start with stainless steel" that is much easier than aluminum. I wish you a very good weekend and greetings from the Netherlands.
Thank you Christian and so true. Enjoy your weekend also!
Aluminum is one metal I REALLY want to learn to weld! Thnx for the vid!!!
Thanks for watching. Just take your time and practice on some plate when your ready. Aluminum is a lot of fun
👍
Brandon, why do you think those welds broke? What do you think the are chances of them breaking again?
I believe that the person was trying to remove the box and accidentally dropped it.
Beautiful repair and a learnsome lesson of that great spoolgun. Interesting to know that a spoolgun has its limitations on difficult to reach spaces. We've to switch to TIG then. Fabulous job Brandon. Aluminium is the least preferable ally I like to weld on. Very soft and the cleaning it requires. You can't permit making one fault whereas steel is more forgiving. Enjoyed it enormously. Thanks and greetz from holland.😃💯💥👌
Thank you so much Marcel. Although I don't do a bunch of aluminum, I enjoy it a lot.
I have cut without any shading if I keep the ark below the nozzle. A tented face shield would be better .
I like the idea of a tinted face shield!
@@BrandonLund I wear glasses that does auto shade , but glasses reflects some of the rays.
Well done, clever idea!
Thank you very much!
Brandon, I noticed you pulled the welds. Didn't you mention push the weld instead of pulling because of contamination?
I did and you are correct. I had to do some manipulation because my settings were still a little too hot. The idea of pushing is to ensure you have good gas coverage ahead of your weld pool. I cranked the gas a little higher to allow for it. Good eye! 👌
@BrandonLund I didn't mean to call ya out man, I'm sorry!! Just noticed it and I've tried it before and was wondering why you had did it is all. You may have done something that I could've tried or used is all. Keep on truckin!!
@streamin2605 no no no I didn't take it as you being critical. I was impressed you saw it. I actually had to go back and look. Sometimes we do stuff from muscle memory and don't even realize it. It's all good brother 👍
Good job
Thank you!
Thank you sir I just started TIG welding after a year and a half of teaching myself how to stick weld thank you so much for teaching me how to prep my aluminum for welding I am stepping off into MIG welding now
Best of luck and welcome aboard!
Great job Brandon, enjoyed the repairs made today. Stay safe and keep up the good videos. Fred.
Thanks Fred and same to you!
Bro, shit actually worked, 1st time I got a genuinely helpful video
Glad I could help!
Is that door jam 4 9/16
I think so

Thanks, nice vid.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
That was pretty cool because the metal ones that they sell are absolute garbage!
I have some that I built 3 years ago and haven't had a single issues. Its hard to beat.
Wish they made the wheels on their cherry picker that difficult to come off. All shit from harbor fright
Right!
nice vid
Thank you!
Two things. 1. Before you put the zip ties in remove all the sockets, then slide all the holders off, tap them on a sander of your choice or a dremel and you can be more precise 2. I would only cut off the bottom end, keep the top end so you can tell at a glance if your grabbing SAE or Metric. I have never thrown those socket holder away and I keep all the sockets on them, it tells me if I have left one lay.....
Great tip!
Hey Brandon, great job man and perfect fit for all 4 of the racks, looks awesome, my compliments for you. Greetings from Holland.
Awesome! I appreciate that Christian Thank you!
Question… for this type of work, would tig be cleaner?
Cleaner meaning no spatter to clean up, but the labor would be 3x more for the same visual result.
Can you add the link to the site you used for where you found the standard height measurements in this video please?
I dont remember the specific site. It could vary depending on your location. A quick Google search will give all the details.

Thank you!!!!!! I'm glad to help. I messed with those springs for a while so I feel your pain and wanted to return the favor. You rock!
Very nice welder would love to try it. Always doing jobs for myself and other people.
Job well done! Sr. I’m going to get one of those stud finder! lol! Thanks for sharing! Brandon! 👌👍
Thanks man!
All of that work for a plastic socket rail, no thank you! I'll spend the money for good metal rails.
This type of hack is really geared towards creative people who enjoy working with their hands and making things. Your response is the equivalent of telling a painter that they should take a picture to save time.
How is expanded metal labeled? You said that was #9, would #10 be thicker or is it like wire gauge? I have a tandem axel car hauler trailer that the wood has rotted off of. I would like to replace the wood with expanded metal but I don't know how to order what I need. Thanks!
Expanded metal comes in all types and sizes. You can get flat, raised and you can get different size openings. I used #9 3/4 which around here is the most common for car trailers and landscape trailers. The smaller you go for example, a #6 would be heavier than a #9.
@@BrandonLund Thanks! I would like to go pretty heavy. I can never get a straight answer on is the wood in a car hauler just decking or is it structural. My plan is to take off all the rotten wood, see what I have to work with and go from there. Many people have resurfaced these trailers either with expanded metal or something like 1/8" sheet. I doubt most of them were engineers. I would not try to build a trailer. However I think I can safely reskin one. Thanks again!
I've done a bunch of commercial trailers. The long flat bed over the road trailers use custom milled oak that has a lap joint on each edge. For typical car haulers and equipment trailers, just regular pressure treated lumber from the big box stores works great. They both use a black oxide bugle shaped self threading bolt to fasten the wood to the metal framing.
Nicely done, Brandon! The little details always make your work come out so nice! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks a bunch!
Curious about your thoughts on a water trough?
Im not opposed. I just don't have the room.
Very nice work. Good presentation - you show/demonstrate as you talk ( I dislike the long-winded videos where the majority of the presentation shows the talker displaying his/her dental work or imperfections thereof). As a retired engineer from the Defense industry, may I suggest test fitting a piece that took significant design/layout/fabrication effort prior to finish welding it. (I required this of my engineers and technicians, and the cost of the incremental test steps - mechanical and electrical was always factored in the contract. Precluded huge and expensive problems many times)
I love doing things that way. My latest video (I think) was building a set of custom shelves and I did it this way. I built patterns, then I built the final project to those pattterns. I was so confident in the patterns that I sent the finished product direct to powdercoat without even test fitting them and when they came back, they fit like a glove 👌
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎
Thanks man!
The fact that such a little trailer had a brake setup is very unusual
Thats why I think the axle was repurposed from a mini van or something along those lines.
That was great, keep up the neat experiments.....
Thanks, will do!
