I love this and I couldn't agree more regarding rivet counters. I did some railway modelling some years back and I specifically decided to model Irish railways with Irish locomotives and stock. I posted a video of it on line and literally the very first comment was from a guy telling me that while I had a very realistic and prototypical Irish railway, he noted that I had two locomotives that shouldn't be on the layout at the same time because they're from slightly different eras. I explained to him that I really didn't give a f*** as it's my 5 year old son who decides what trains we run and if it's really that upsetting to see a 1980s loco alongside a 1970s one on a prototypical Irish railway, then you're really going to freak out when you see us running British trains on it 🙂 ....... By the way, I just came across your channel love your content. Keep it up 👍

Sir, this is my first visit to your KZread post. You are right rivet counters do spoil it for everyone because manufacturers are trying to keep up with this criticism and make every model perfect. The result is cost and because the costs go up this results in the young being put off and the hobby dying on its feet. I'm sure if they could see the big picture they might just think again before being quite so critical of someone's own interpretation of a scene in their own mind.

I absolutely love your landscaping and details. It is a treat to watch. I use Setrack wherever I can, it saves me time, and works just as well. When I play around with the trains (yes, PLAY) I never really think about the track and point work anyway, as I immerse myself into operating the layout. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Denmark.

Totally agree with you on your little rant about rivet counters. Personally I have, as yet, not had any comments of the sort you talk about, but friends have. It's your layout, you built it, so do what you wish with it. I would delete the comment and then block that account. Some hate my Innocent Tales of Piddle Folk channel, it's for fun only, if you don't like it, stop watching it and stay away. Unfortunately some people just love to be complete arseholes because they are jealous. Chin Up and delete them.

@@HaroldRoad Oh wow, its wider than it looks, so much detail going on it's deceiving. I am changing from N Gauge to OO and only have 2ft Depth on one wall and 18ins depth around the rest.. I am building it onto the existing N Gauge baseboards that are already done. Will be a challenge with a Foot Less than you to play with.

Fantastic layout I particularly like the use of bi-directional lines and all the signaling to give you so many movement options defiantly one in the eye to the rivet counters out there. A layout can be fun to run and prototypical too, if being prototypical is more important than just enjoying your hobby and playing trains that is

I had to include some kind of background music due to horrendous background noise from inside the house and external Road noise...I have warned about the music score in the description...its either the music (which can be tirned down) or my Sons Girlfriend singing out of tune downstairs and screaming...plus noisey motorbikes and cars going past my house....

Hello John, I have just bought the 57601 Windsor Castle and I was a bit concerned it might be a problem by some reviews. It is a cracking loco, here is my findings with the loco to go with your review, for anyone interested in this loco. Mine does not take off quickly as yours did, it can really do a good crawl, I am DC only with a Gaugemaster Model D transformer. Another KZreadr had problems with loco stalling when running slow, I have not. Top light not illuminating! yeah a bit of a downer but the two other are fine and light up even running very slow, unlike some manufacturers. I have 19 various Heljan locos some with bulbs so having LEDs is great. Over scale? looks good to me. Greasy buffers I was thinking not a good idea but I really don't notice them when loco is running. I'm not impressed with the silver around the 4 vents and exhaust ports, I have modified that. I really don't like kinematic couplings as they cause derailing and thank goodness Heljan have kept to the old fashioned system. I paid £136 for mine from TMC with free delivery, so a great deal. Finally to sum up if any one is wary as I was (I should not have been as I have loads of Heljan locos, wagons and coaches which ALL run great) get one, it is brilliant. Thanks John for doing the comprehensive review, it forewarned me exactly as to what I would receive, Bill.

Buffers also move on the new 66, Although I'm a fan of sprung buffers I model a TMD only, And to see diesels buffering up is brilliant plus sound locos on shed ticking over is truly something else.

I agree .I dont give a monkies about sprung buffers. Great video even though class 67s are not in the era I am doing. . Best tip I can give to boost confidence is to practice on old loco bodies obtained for a couple of quid at swapmeets and the like.
