    Other than a few goes on friend's sims, I've never spent any driving on them. I'd say I'm a terrible sim driver. If your local tracks or clubs have driver coaches, it'd be a worthy exercise for them to observe and highlight some improvements before you development (or further development) some negative driving habits. Sharing your videos and data (racechrono for example) with other people with varying experiences can also be helpful.

  • @rhysrhysrhys

    I've never had the same size in both. 225/45/15 in a CRS is wider than a 205/50/15 RE71RS as you'd expect. CRS has a more square profile, so you might get a little more width from a 205/50/15 compared to a RE71RS.

    I came in 6km faster than I had all day, so a little slower on entry could have meant more control. Also not focused on the cone on the track and looked to where I was going rather than there. Past that, I could have accelerated instead of braked when the rear stepped out and it could have straightened out. It could have also stepped out the other way and who knows where I would have ended up at a much faster pace than I hit the wall this time. Overall, considering the speed I lost the rear (145km), I think I came out of it quite well.

  • @rhysrhysrhys
    @rhysrhysrhysАй бұрын

    They'll be fastest the first and second laps, then get slower throughout the session. The drop off doesn't seem as dramatic as what I've seen from A052 or A050gs. I last drove on A050 mediums back in 2017, they always required a lap or so to get up to pace and then were fast for the whole session. Depends what you're after from a tyre. I do think A050m is the best tyre for smashing lap after lap after lap, especially because they are as fast down to the cords.

    how would these fair on a primarily road driven car? if i were to say put these on an MX5, would they hold up for spirited driving on local twisty roads or are the limits on these so high that you need to be a complete hoon to get any value from these and that they be kept mainly to a track. I wonder how the Re003 would stack up to these, they are much cheaper and a completely different kind of tyre but there aren't any direct comparisons out there so i'm not sure if these would be worth the extra money, that is of course if they can be used on a road car for a bit more than just driving to the track

  • @rhysrhysrhys
    @rhysrhysrhys7 ай бұрын

    I've been through Reefton here in Victoria a heap with these and was impressed with their road mannerisms and pace in all kinds of weather. I wouldn't put them on a car I was driving to work, but if it was just a fun weekender, I think they'd be worth the cost. I still did about 7000km on them, which I think is quite good for a tyre like this and what it was used for. I've never driven on the RE003, but other than the 4 for 3 deals being a big positive, it isn't exactly a performance tyre from what I understand. If spirited road driving is your preference, maybe the new AD09 from Yokohama would be worth looking at? There are other fast road going tyres, but they tend to only be made in the larger sizes and its been over 10 years since I've owned a car with wheels larger than 15s (excluding my Odyssey, which has 16s!) I'm driving on the Nankang CRS now, which is a little cheaper than the RE71RS and realistically the road pace and characteristics are very similar. That could be worth looking at as well, though I expect wear rate and lifespan is very similar with what I've experienced in the last few months.

    how are these tires wearing for you? all i have near me is autocross but i'm still tempted by these as i've heard they wear as well as any other super 200tw while putting down a pace on par with the a052/re71rs. we do sets of 4 runs and we usually have decent length courses (40-50 seconds) so maybe i'd be able to get enough heat in them?

    Wearing very similar to how the RE71RS did, which is much better when comparing to friends with A052 who have done similar number events and road kilometres over the same period. Its probably worth a go, they might fall into the right spot of speed/cost/life that suits you.
