SALSA drummers use the body of the drum most of the time. Watch Adrian Violi. Charlotte does that.

When tuning the bottom head of your snare drum, you really want to tune it as tight and high as it’ll go *WITHOUT* breaking any of the tension rods.

This will help tremendously. I just found a whole kit a neighbor put out for the trash. It’s in really bad shape like heavy rust on all the chrome and oxidation on all the aluminum and the cymbals were shot. The shells are dirty but look fine. It’ll be a challenge for sure and even decided not to yesterday but had a change of heart this morning and went for it. As long as it sounds good when I’m done if I don’t give up first lol. 😬

I could have saved so much freakin' time tuning my kit had I watched this years ago. By far the simplest and most effective method I've seen and I've been a percussionist for half my life.

Musician of 35+ years here and the drums is my least proficient instrument but as a guitarist/bassist I’ve always asked permission to play the drummers kit when we take a break from rehearsing/jamming etc. And avi also just note that a lot of my close friends throughout my life have been drummers. I bought this kit for my 11 year old son who has shown interest. Between the instruction booklet and my experience I have most of the kit assembled properly but this video should help with the hi-hat and kick pedal and it has helped confirm that I’m doing a decent job. As a musician with a good ear, I am most interested in tuning heads. The rack toms arrived and already tuned at f# (top and bottom head) and c# (top and bottom head) respectively. They came very accurately tuned all around. I’m wondering what I should tune the floor tom to? My inclination is c#. Some videos suggest tuning the bottom head of the floor tom a half step or whole step lower. Any advice out there?

Me too. I've been drumming off and on for 15 years. I'm 42 now, and since this last March. I've been learning rudiments I've never learned. I practice single stroke rolls every day for at least 10 minutes. Start at 300 bpm for 10 minutes and do 340 for 10 minutes. And then 360 for another 10 minutes.

I understand very well that you have to talk to explain how it works but brother you need to play those drums pocket grooves make sure we hear that I had snare and kick and some rhythm form and get various pitch ranges cuz when you do it the way you doing it now it's frustrating and I'll just go to another drum vid I mean we really want to hear some grooves with it you start playing stuff way late in the video please make sure you bring out some beats with these demonstrations especially with electronics involved come on man but thank you anyway

This is what happens when I click the link for the PDF. It takes me to a blank screen with programming code and at the top of the page it says this: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."
