  Something your not thinking of, in v2 the down order affected the to hit modifier and then only half the hits were taken due to the unit being down aswell. In v3down does not affect to hit nor casualties are not halved and only in the cover save does it come into play as a single save per roll so down not as affective as it use to be.

  Very interesting rules set. Have you been able to get the game on the table? It would be great if you did a follow up video on the tweaks that you made to the game. Is Rubicon the only 28mm manufacturer of Vietnam War minis, or are there additional brands that you recommend? What scale are you using for the vehicles, boats, helicopters, jets? Did you create special rules for napalm like you discussed in this video? What are you doing for that?

  Simply put hobby tourists have pushed the locals out. They flood their channels with GW content to hit the algo whether they like the games or not. This then pushes small niche stuff out of searches or puts them way back of the list. These people feel disheartened by low views or little engagement and stop making content.

  A submachine gun and pistol both have the Assault rule, this means it doesn't suffer the -1 penalty for movement anyway. You still take Long Range penalties at 12 and 6 inches respectively

  The Sherman has a turret mounted Medium Anti-Tank gun, possessing a penetration value of +5. The Hellcat is equiped with a Heavy Anti-Tank gun, with a penetration of +6. That is because the Hellcat's gun has a higher velocity than a Sherman's.

  In Konflikt 47, they have a rule called Elite, it is a hefty cost (11 points per unit) but they get a chance at doing another action so long as they didn't like shoot or assault on their last action. I think you might enjoy that even if just homebrewed

  Someone proposed that there should be a leadership test if they lose, a pass means they fall back, and failing is they are all dropped. That sounds better, or if they went to an overrun system where you roll like 1d6 when you lose and if the enemy rolls equal or higher they wipe the losing squad

  Nice update, I've always enjoyed bolt a film games I've played high I background in a while. I didn't realise grenades was not factored in seems odd considering the type of game it is and the importance of the grenade in the infantry tactics. I like the pin system also and agree the machine gun did dominate areas through expression and was a very difficult adversary. I even agree too with your thoughts on melee I would like a unit ability to go into melee with a rare leadership trait and even with that trait the leader would need to roll to summon the quality footsie a unit in. I think some scenario specific games perhaps could make it more easy to do. Units should also not stand in a position once opposite g fire gets to a point.with the position back games stronghold factor..With a certain concentration of fire should be a tipping point for a unit to get out. ...thanks for posting I'm looking forward to see what they bring kht..I hope you don't need to buy to many supplements to play a basic game..Thanks for posting.

  Have not played other wargames, but yeah Bolt action rules are pretty straitforward and are too simple for details. Also fun is important thing. Would it be fun that your tanks break down before the battle and you could not use them? Same can be said about foot troops, they execute their orders perfectly, in real life there would be lots of uncertainty for commander. There are 4 things in my opinion that make Bolt action more realistic than many other game. 1. War is random and is not a pokemon battle, the turns are randomiced on the dice bag. 2. Humans are scared of shooty things, thus in the game they take pins if shot at. These pins make executing orders harder. 3. Armored targets are nearly impossible to defeat without antitank weapons. In the game and in real life. 4. Japanese, Germans and Brits are all humans thus all nations have units that can do the same job. Your list can specialice in any way you want.

  @@Ostvalt Didn’t mean to imply people can’t play and like the game. I’m in the hobbyist camp. If you are having fun playing the game then it’s a good game. Having said that, regarding the tank breakdown, why not? For someone else, that level of verisimilitude could be exactly what makes it “fun”.

  @@marchhare22-lm9on You have to understand that tanks are point sinks and losing one randomly is not fun. You could easily lose 1/5 of your fighting power. Bolt Action is skirmish/battle wargame. There are different wargames for ultrarealism. These are usually theater level games, good example is The campaing for North Africa.

  Yeah I completely understand where the op is coming from . On one hand if all you wanted is “frost grave but sci fi” then this game is aces , this game is for you and to be clear that is perfectly fine. However if you where looking for a more than just “frost grave in space”, like changes in game mechanics , new combat system etc.. then yeah you are going to be disappointed so I can certainly understand the disappointment with stargrave.

  Another annoying thing about the big KZread channels is that they all do the same content at the same time. GW is releasing a new version of Age of Sigmar? Well now every channel is doing a "first look" or a how to paint your army to get it ready for the table or whatever. We've lost the variety. Anyway, great thought-provoking set of videos sir. I really enjoyed them.

  Listening to this now I think you have been vindicated even more. At my local game stores I have not seen any Old World stuff in stock other than rule books and it seems like they are struggling to sell GW products in general. Personally I like a lot of those old miniatures but selling them at basically fully price was a typical Games Workshop cash grab and killed my interest in it

  I'm into hobby for 30 years now if that change anything. Uncle Atom is here for years already. I see nothing wrong with his channel. He release games with Vince now, you can not be a fan of them but calling them not real games but just merch.. c'mon man.

  Love your channel mate, hope you keep posting vids :) I subscribe to channels like yours that I like, and often block the ones which seem to be the repetitive templated merch/painting/sponsored GW promotion channels of which there seem to be hundreds. This seems to help at least. I have a small channel updated infrequently, and just stuff I'm genuinely interested in that others might also be interested in, and fine if not. Mostly Kings of War from Mantic, but also started adding historicals which have been my main focus for many years - so a couple of big 28mm Napoleonics battles, and a new Medieval army. All less popular stuff (compared to GW which dominates You Tube feeds). Even though I also do some GW stuff at times, I don't bother posting anything about it given You Tube is already saturated with that content.

  I think a lot of the smaller channels decided to quit once people started figuring out you can do KZread as a job. Once KZread is your job now you need to have the sponsorships, the fancy video production, and follow what ever the latest formula is to please the algorithm. In other words, if you don't play by KZreads rules and do what everyone else is doing you just won't make it. I've unsubscribed from a lot of channels over the past 2 yrs because like you said, they weren't making hobby videos, they were just making advertisements.

  Holy Diver has a renamed his channel "Angrytabletopnerd". His channel and yours plus a handfull of others is all I watch really. I cant stand the channels that try to insert their woke agenda into the hobby. I just want to watch battlereports or hear the latest gaming news. Keep that nonsense out of my hobby 😅

  Putting on a pair of headphones and listening to a SWS rant whilst painting some models has become a bit of favourite pastime. I don't agree with all of your points but I share your annoyance at how a lot of channels are now about making "content" just for the purpose of meeting their monetary targets. I see chanels making videos about niche topics just so they can put out a video and get that sweet sponsorship money. Everybody seems to now be sponsored by the same small pool of companies; like Squarespace, World of Tanks/Warships, Curiosity Stream etc... I think this is the result of Facebook's (Meta) purchase of KZread a few years ago. Like everything in our capitalist culture, their platforms are a way to produce revenue in as many ways as possible. It went from a community of like-minded individuals to a commercial entity. I don't necessarily blame KZreadrs for buying into this obvious Pyramid Scheme. At the end of the day "Social Influencer" and "Social Media Star" are now careers in board games like The Game of Life. It's in all our media streams, so some people must see it as a genuine career rather than an enjoyable hobby. I think if we look back on this time in 20-30 years, the phrase of the decade would be "like, share and subscribe".

  Thanks Deano for following up on the comments and clarifying your thoughts. KZread is a weird beast, it wants a very particular diet and regurgitates only what conforms to its internal guidelines. Algorithms and AI need to be scrutinised by us all. I for one don't want to be squeezed into its mould. Stay special mate.

  I think what you are looking for in a channel requires a lot of commitment and time. So eventually a channel like that would have to become commercialized in order to justify the time commitment and expense. In the meantime, there are still a lot of amateur channels to check out. Just don’t expect too much for free.

  Yeah it’s like my comment on your earlier video suggests. I believe the whole gist of the argument is not about the hobby it’s about influencers in the hobby community being at the top. Other niche interests have influencers and guerrilla marketing but there are still creators who are getting the most eyeballs on their vids and it just isn’t the case with our hobby unfortunately. Good luck I hope you do start up a community event that we can all rally around because that’s what it will take.
