I had the pleasure of setting up and running audio for her in the early 80s at Mira Costa College in San Diego. She with with Sam Hinton and was only a few years before she passed. I was a music major at the time taking the studio recording class and was assigned the task. What a thrill, feeling like a pro running cables and setting up her mic. As I recall, only one mic position was needed, where as Sam Hinton was all over the place. I still have the recording on 2-Track and listened to it about 8 years ago. I now teach music at the high school level and talk about Elizebeth Cotten every year - for 18 years.

Gracias y saludos.

Whether Carlos was a prankster and a manipulator, whether Don Juan Matus and Don Genaro actually existed, we were introduced to there being an 'unknown' which cannot be conceived of. Even with all our efforts to explain it and scientific experimentation, it will always be beyond our grasp. The books pointed at that but attempted no explanation. When that becomes obvious, it changes your life. Like a scientist realising that an understanding of the universe will never be fully possible, because even the desire to understand it, is purely the result of a human habit to 'categorise'. Maybe Carlos was a nasty little man with dirty secrets, but some of the ideas in the books are life changing, not because of the beliefs you take on, but because of the beliefs you can end up challenging. I'm not sure if the sorcerers path really exists, but Don Juan and Don Genaro were adamantly anti-bullshit. Even if they were just in Carlos's mind, I think they would have called him out over his last few books.

The books are awe inspiring. The conversations and situations have a realistic flow to me. The information, the mystery, the connections to other strange other-worldly descriptions and events that just defy logic - resonate with me. Sceptics and cynics never can connect - they are their own barriers. Stay open and realise that people invest their lives following shamanic paths - because to them and the community, this reality is as real as the material reality.

Don Juan wore many hats he had different names, he was fluid, he wasn't just one thing. Everyone who wrote about their experiences with him tell different accounts. He was taught by the Nagual Julian. I feel we are all messengers of the infinite. How much we receive and embody depends on our own efforts and emptiness and ability to harness energy. But the methods and techniques he passed on to Carlos and many of the women who wrote about him are priceless gems. Also, the truth is the truth! If the human energy field looks like a luminous egg with bristles, then all who are able to see it will see the same thing! I've never in my life heard of the healing breath Don Juan called recapitulation! Carlos didn't take that from anywhere or any book. That was passed down to him. Taisha Abelar also wrote about it extensively in her book and describes meeting Don Juan as John Michael Abelar. But honestly just because one Huichol Indian was found to have met Carlos but not taught him anything doesn't prove a thing! He obviously wasn't Don Juan. Don Juan wasn't married! He was celibate! As for Carlos? He fell. He must have let fame and money get the best of him. Once you lose energy, you lose perspective. It can be very destructive. Impeccability is not losing but harnessing spiritual energy, continuously. By having sex he lost his way. For Don Juan taught celibacy. As for Taisha Abelar and Florinda Grau, they most likely went back to their homes in Mexico, out of the public eye. They did not commit suicide!!!

From my point of view, Jesus was really a great, true, superb Master, yes, indeed. Don Juan Matus was also a great and true Master and Castañeda made that knowledge accesible to all of us. The problem with Castañeda, in my opinion, is that he became corrupted by all the money and the power that he got. Thank you!
