    I forgot that the 80s version of H² was taped at Universal Hollywood in thr later seasons (even though the Squares was syndicated, it's still an NBC show, nowadays Universal owns NBC...) LOL at 3 doing a commercial for ET and Evening paying nod to those Folgers Crystals commercials being filmed at Bookbinder's near Second and Chestnut...😅

    The host of this version of H² took over the hosting from Mike Douglas' show, (which was a staple for KYW) n the early Eighties.

    I still can't believe that NBC let KYW-TV delay daytime "Wheel of Fortune" to the late afternoon. I think it aired at either 3:30 or 4:00 before "Hollywood Squares".

    Fascinating that John Mulrooney would very soon go on to serve as a host of "The Late Show"; Joan's late-night talk show from which she had been fired the year before! (Steve Garvey was one good-looking man; charismatic, too!)

    looks like KYW in Philly either pre-empted either Win Lose or Draw or Super Password in favor of Hollywood Squares, me, WHO-TV pre-empted Win Lose or Draw off and on for Relatively Speaking, they had Super Password, Scrabble, Sale, you name it

  • @michaelj.kerkau1625
    @michaelj.kerkau16253 жыл бұрын

    Not surprising - reading up on KYW, they were rather pre-emption-prone, much to NBC's annoyance. I'm guessing it was Win, Lose or Draw, though, as it appears that daytime Wheel moved around between 10:30 AM and Noon for its entire NBC run, whereas Super Password was at Noon for its entire run. (Or else *they* were pre-empted in favor of news, rather than Squares.) Win, Lose or Draw was at 11:30, so a Wheel + Draw pairing makes the most sense.

    As an NBC affiliate, channel 3 in Philadelphia, did its own thing. Being a Group W station probably played a lot into that. But at this time (fall '88) this was happening: "Santa Barbara" ran at 9a on a one-day delay, followed by the local "People Are Talking" at 10a and syndicated stuff in the 11a hour leading up to the noon news. "Days of Our Lives" and "Another World" were the only NBC daytime shows cleared in-pattern. "Sale of the Century", "Super Password" and "Wheel of Fortune" were delayed to 3 to 4.30p, followed by "Hollywood Squares" and "$100,000 Pyramid". KYW-TV created a 2.5 hour block of game shows as a run-up to their evening news.
