Mmm it is not true that elderly people didn't saw black people. Back in the days we are talking the 90s, which is 30 year ago, so the elder people today were you know young :D And there was a wave of refugees and a lot of foreign people from Africa were traveling across the city. But overall colored people are still very rare to see and in deed if someone starts to stare it because of curiosity.

I agree Bulgarians in general are just curious about the difference of the skin color, I have been many times and happily married to a Bulgarian now for 20years, I have met many and have never felt any form of discrimination or dislike based on ethnicity . I caused a bus of school kids on an outing to stop and the curious kids came to say hello, this was not in the city but in one of the mountains I embraced their curiosity and encourage the meeting, we all learned a lot from it.

I’m glad that you have a had such a positive experience in Bulgaria and in Eastern Europe. I do believe that we should be able to travel anyway our money can take us but you should not condemn black or should i say non whites living in the United States. No no actually they are. They are bare racist however they are also very polite and they discuss this only in the company of white people.
A note: the Cyrillic alphabet was not created by Cyril and Methodious. They created the glagolitic alphabet and when they fled to Bulgaria, Bulgaria welcomed them as scholars. A school was established by Bulgaria at those times, the Preslav school. There studied the 5 Bulgarian students that were Cyril and Methodious's puppets after they settled in Bulgaria. These 5 students created the Cyrillic alphabet and named it after their teacher Cyrill. In Bulgaria we honor them as Свети Седмочисленици[Sveti Sedmochislenitsi] meaning the holly seven.

Thank you for a wonderful video . My wife and I are looking to retire in Bulgaria in the next few years . Life makes us wait , beyond our control. Your video made us feel so much better about our choice , thank you for all you said and your honesty. The only negative for us is the fact that more people are discovering this amazing country and we hope to not be priced out of the market , as has been the case in Spain and Portugal over the least few years . It’s so hard to wait , as we see costs rising and immigration growing as we are forced to sit and wait . Only time will tell , but for us we are totally committed to Bulgaria for all the reasons you mentioned. Love your video and will be sure to watch more 😊
