Scientific ideas, History & Life...and their connections
Namaste, Hola & Welcome... from G.V. Pavan Kumar!
In this channel, I explore science & the history of scientific ideas through videos and podcasts.
My motivation is to humanize science.

I am a Professor of Physics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, India.
My research interests are Optics, Soft-Matter Physics & Intellectual history of physical sciences.
All the content posted here is in my personal capacity.

The video is very nice and I feel it is very important in the context of post-doc life of a scientist, where the methodology adopted essentials depends on oneself. Can you please suggest what to do when for multiple projects we see that ideas do not lead to sufficient progress, which results in frustration?
Good point...multiple project requires prioritization. Focusing on one big project and having a few side projects is better. As time progresses, one can rotate priority after making some progress. Easier said than done, but it is useful.
Very nice sir
Sir very motivating content for budding researchers. I realised self discipline and routine are very important in life atleast for me. If you feel the same, would love to view your perspective on it 😊
Agree with you.. these are important characteristics
Thanks for 0 like and 0 subscribe😢😞🥺🎉
Nice India is getting Las Vegas weather. They should start opening casinos and resorts.
😀
Beautiful portrayal of the statement sir. It motivates me as a science student, especially hearing from you.
Glad to hear that
kzread.info/dash/bejne/gmlnsJpqoJjfn7g.htmlsi=6hGytNvnz3pwpAxL. Arsne Wenger on the stamina of motivation - 67% of all youth talent in elite football clubs quit football! They are the best talent of that generation and yet two thirds of them give up on football. Not just pro football. They give up football altogether.
Rahul Dravid too has said all of what you have said here :)
indeed...his bamboo analogy is legendary..
@@pavan-sci-history and his telling of the Pravin tambe story
@@muralineel that is a fantastic one...
also the description is sad lmao
first P.S this video is just a bunch of collective incoherent facts which doesn't focus on the crux of the problem . WHY is INDIA so hot ???
also your description is sad lmao
@@vaishnavm9090 thanks for the criticism, i see your point...watch out for some future videos on this channel....i have defined the problem in this video, but not resolved the issue, and the issue is complex...
Could you give an example?
example of what ?
this is very insightful convo
I was a astronomy freak , planned a lot for it but dont know why that fascination died in these 2 years of jc , and i do wanna recount that i went almost four times to join the astro club in fc, but i dk why never got joined in a group , right now that shabby small room is just rusting out i guess
Such an interesting shift in perspective! And thank you for the little inspirational reminders too :)
Greg Stephens in OIST does very interesting work related to stat mech...
Amazing overview!
A unique architecture that showcase a combination of Art and Science in a public place
Fascinating 👍
Woah. I am amazed by the way you precisely addressed such a profound question!
I find myself in this loop everyday and then I forcibly un-notice things. Curiosity is exhausting I must stay.
Indeed, it is a good observation. Curiosity comes from being proactive. Settling to being reactive is always easy. Being curious needs energy. It is a worthy way of spending our energies. In the long run, being reactive will exhaust our minds and perhaps our lives too. Instead, being curious helps us to live...
What a beautiful childhood story of Prof. Devapriya.. Village life gives a different appreciation of natural beauty!
Can you please do a podcast with Dr. Manabendra Nath Bera from IISER Mohali? He is actually humanizing science on the grass root level...
Professor, this is awesome. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Can this phenomenon of light used for the tritment of damaged biological cells.
Good question...actually there are some efforts in this direction. See this paper : www.nature.com/articles/s41551-016-0008
No. Such experiments only exists so "scientists" can kid around in their little labs and think they are doing something with life. Especially in India.
👏👌 Also Pune seems to have beautiful weather when there is severe heatwave all across making us move in hot brownian motion
Pune does have good weather, but this summer temperatures have reached 40ish...but it was unusually cool when I shot this video...probably due to cyclone (?)...
He is always an inspiration🎉
Love from an IISER aspirant sir ❤
Wonderful ideas 💡
Thank you! 😊
I love this channel
Thanks, Shahila
Nice one ! ❤ but the background music is irritating, maybe you can lower it down,Idk somehow It doesn't seems to match rhythm of speech and story telling. Thanks for talking about History, It really gives a good context ✨
Thanks, Vishwas...noted your feedback
Interesting conversation - Dr. Lakhtakia taught one of my courses at Penn State, this would be in 1992. That was one of the introductory Engineering Mechanics classes - I think his was the Dynamic motion class. As a 2nd year college student, I was amazed that he would enter the classroom armed with nothing more than a piece of chalk. His explanations, example problems, etc. for the next hour - all came directly from his memory - and very well done every day. I told of him to all my engineering classmates - I expected he was one of the smartest people I 'knew'. In 1992, while I was taking his course, I looked up what he did for research, etc. and then I realized that the course that he was teaching us was just the beginning of his knowledge. Nice to see he's still at Penn State!
very insightful. Thanks
Thanks for creating this podcast ♥️
Reduce Background noice
background noise or music ?
There is noise in the video 😅@@pavan-sci-history
Excellent thoughts
Such a great insight❤
There's always an idiot trying to slow down progress, the proof is there the videos are online but of course a 🤡 will say its fake trying to get some clout. Literally useless to the growth of human intelligence. Big L for this video
Amazing sirr❤
Also discovered plant phytohormone auxin before it was formally introduced by F W Went
thanks for the info...
🎉
Beautiful presentation!
Hi, This series of reels is really nice. Can I suggest you make such a series about evolutionary biologists?
Sure...will definitely try...also check out the podcasts I have done with evol biologist - Sutirt Dey and Amitab Joshi..
Is Bose Einstein condensate really considered the 5th state of matter among the scientific community or is it just another sensationalised hypothesis blown out of proportion for a layman?
It is an unconventional matter, indeed...but I would classify it as quantum matter at the microscale...there are very interesting physical properties of BECs...hear to podcast I did with my colleague Umakant...
Starting his biography on Bhabha!
He is an excellent author...if interested, also read his book in the fiction genre
@@pavan-sci-history Surely, will do. Looking forward to joining DU as an undergrad in geology this year. His work in the RRI feels refreshing & important. So important for the previous generation scientists to inspire and you were so good as the host acting the catalyst part for the interaction between the younger and the older generation! Kudos!
@@Vanseyy all the best
