A few years ago - I would have DIED had I not grabbed the nurse ( after 3 days slowly deteriorating health-wise - without seeing a DOCTOR ) and said the magic words , “ I’m going PRIVATE now !!” , whereupon I was given a form to sign , providing my debit card details . After this, within 5 MINS , the Head of Cardiology at this renowned NHS (!) hospital ( with a private wing, of course ) materialised, checked me out immediately, ordered multiple scans , X - rays and tests , then ( after receiving the results) prescribed the appropriate medical treatment - which ( I jest not) removed me from death’s door , and SAVED my life . After this , I learned my lesson - that the ( 21st century version of the ) NHS is now only fit for purpose ( and thus save your Life , as required) ONLY if you BOLT ON (and pay for ) Private Medical Insurance - so as to ensure your timely “entitlement” to “free” NHS medical care ….! 😂

They really need to improve health insurance if they wish to take people away from the NHS. Sorry but the care in the NHS is failing people and I think they really need to bring out plans that will replace NHS treatment. Theres no NHS in Guernsey so perhaps something similar to that

The trouble is that health insurance is already unaffordable to most, but to be comparable to the NHS, it would have to cover pre-existing conditions and chronic conditions. However, adding those in would see prices sky rocket, and become even less affordable. People are increasingly opting to self-pay for consultations and treatments and you don't have to have health insurance to access private medical care, but you do need the money to pay for it. There needs to be a solution where it becomes more affordable, but the NHS is such a political hot potatato, it's doubtly anything significant will change in the short term.

@@mytribehealth problem is not in this. The prices shouldn't be so high. The problem is in a greed of this business. I don't think that blood test should cost £150 to £400. But even if it does the Insurance should cover at least half of it and people would come to private practice where you don't have to beg for yearly blood checkup test. It's like with renting business - it's crazy not because landlords are poor and have no money to live - it's crazy because prices grow out of nowhere. 1 room is not for the price of the flat!!! lol. And the last problem is that insurance wants to be more for VIP people and not for any working person. For example, car insurance - you can pay all year and never claim anything and all this big money will be gone into their pocket for NOTHING, but it could help to other person who had an accident. Same with the med insurance - thousand people can pay all year and claim just small amount for the blood test or so, but most of the money will sink in company's pocket and can help someone in need. But they make business the way they make it - they hold people in the distance with 100 restrictions and high prices. The minimum Excess/Co-pay is £100!!! ))) For people on NHS £100 is a big money if you pay every month to insurance £50. It's easier to pay with Klarna then or any other 0% company that using insurance. Stupid greedy people.

Hmm...health insurance covers many serious conditions, such as cancer, bone and joint conditions, and muscular skeletal issues and if you opt for outpatient cover, scans, tests and diagnostics. It doesn't cover life-long chronic conditions, but there are plenty of serious acute conditions it does.
