This is Bull! I've been cutting my hair like this since 1973 and you usually keep your length. The after picture, your layers are the same length. With that cut they are short on top and keep getting longer to the nape. Shame!

This is a legit way to diy cut your hair, but her mistake was in taking too much off. Also, the style is designed to create layers and suits thicker hair better. She missed out doing the point-cutting (after cutting a SHORT amount from the ponytail, you should poke-cut into the cut to create a softer look). I do a simpler version of this every 6 months: the unicorn ponytail, but I have long, thick, slightly curly hair. It looks great, and creates masses of layers and is longer at the back.
