Degenerate art from the Beats and earlier writers like Bukowski owed everything to the times they were attached to. It was very ahead of it's time to talk about such things in prim 20th century society. In recent decades, it is everywhere.

Why bother picking a Neil Young song you can't even come close to singing the melody? One of the all time worst singers. He may be a very nice fellow but he's no musician.

The palliative stage of an eon, enlightening. References to Burroughs, Candy Darling, the wit and wisdom passed on to another generation, lessons in living differently, meeting your own expectations, nobody else's. Huncke cuts a gracious figure, weathered through war, drugs, hustling, prison, the system, demeanour unchanged.

So the Beats were just bums. It must have been nice to not have any responsibilities to your family, friends, or society. Having sex with anyone who offered you their couch for the night, or a meal. Never being able to support yourself. The good news is the Beats are still around today. They ask me for money when I'm at the gas station. They can't keep a job and blame Western civilization. What's to admire about these degenerates?
